Chapter 1187: Hauntingly beautiful

[INTERPOL]

Elliot sat frozen in front of his desk with a gaping mouth, staring at the sample files Dominic sent to him. A shallow huff escaped him, reaching for the mouse to check the rest of the files.

"This..." he trailed off while trying to process the emotion he should feel at the moment. "... is all the information Hera asked me to garner?"

At this point, Elliot was wondering if he was a hero in his previous life. Back then, Elliot could remember how many times he wondered why he was so unlucky. As the President of Interpol, he barely arrested some big shots, but not the real big shot he was trying to catch: Hera Cruel.

But not only he couldn’t arrest her, but now, he didn’t even know if what he had believed was right. If they put her behind bars, half of the members of the General Assembly should also serve time. What Hera did were crimes that deserved punishment and shouldn’t be justified. But as it turns out, it was more complicated than that.

"Is this a coincidence?" he muttered, squinting his eyes suspiciously. "Dominic’s giving all this information at the same time Hera needed them?"

The moment those words rolled out of Elliot’s tongue, he heard his secretary’s voice from the telephone.

"President, Minister Zhu is on the line."

Elliot raised a brow but was not surprised because a call from Dominic right after the latter sent all these samples was to be expected. He reached for the button and said, "Connect him and keep it off the record."

"Yes, President."

A second later, Elliot reached for the telephone and placed it right in front of his ear. His expression slowly changed into a stiff and dark look, listening to the other person on the line.

"Yes, I heard." Elliot nodded. "And our deal’s still on the table. I gave you my word, and you gave me yours. I’ll keep my end of the bargain so long as you keep yours, Minister Zhu."

[REAPER’s BASE]

"Wow..." Moose rubbed his palms against each other as he saw the crates the reapers were carrying inside the mansion. He jogged and joined Wolf outside, who was inspecting the crates. "That was quick! We only cashed in the money yesterday, but you already got the goods today. Who should we thank this time? You or Wolf?"

Wolf glanced at the excited Moose and smirked. "Dominic."

"Huh?"

"Apparently, while Dominic was throwing Hera’s money as charity, he had been buying weapons on the side," Wolf explained while glancing at the crate the other members opened for him to see. "Put them over there."

He then looked at Moose. "So, over time, he accumulated large amounts of weapons for the Reapers to get back on their feet."

Moose’s mouth fell open before he blurted out. "What about the money we stole?"

"They’re in the safe place."

"Where?"

"I’m not telling you just because you are Moose." Wolf kept his focus on his duty without giving Moose so much attention. "And because I don’t like that tone."

"Come on, old man." Moose frowned. "I’m not asking because I want to take a few bites! All I’m saying is if we’re not going to use it, we might as well put it back into Tiger’s account before he finds out. Dealing with Primo is already too stressful. And I don’t want Tiger breathing down my neck every moment of my life! You know what Ivy Wei did, right?"

"I did, and I don’t think it matters right now."

"Why not?"

"Because we’re preparing for a mission — a mission which is also our last mission." Wolf cast Moose a knowing look. "Also, don’t you trust Hera? If she doesn’t need Tiger’s money, she’s gonna give it back."

"That’s what she said to Dominic when she stole from his company."

"Just don’t mind it for now." Wolf shook his head, picking up a pistol from one of the crates while motioning the men to take it inside. "Focus on the matters at hand. Tiger might find out about it, but you know for sure he won’t gonna bother you until this is all over."

Moose’s frown deepened, but he couldn’t argue with Wolf. The man had a point. Even if Tiger found out about it today, Tiger would be too busy to think about it.

"Hey, there!"

Moose snapped his eyes at the pair approaching them from the SUV that had just arrived. Jumping out of the SUV were Tracy and Victor, the duo who worked directly for Hera for a mission in the past. They were also the pair who interrogated Wolf and the same people who got Wolf out.

"Good work," said Wolf to the two. "How was the trip?"

"Good." Tracy casually smiled while throwing her hands behind her head. "We took the assassin to the torture chambers first. How’s the goods?"

"So far, they seemed to be of high quality."

"I know, right?" Tracy grinned. "Even I was surprised when I checked them. Dominic Zhu surely has good eyes and is very meticulous. Are you sure he’s not a member of the Reapers?"

"Maybe we’ll find out in the future. For now, go in and rest first. I can take this from here," Wolf advised. "Hera will still need you later."

"Yep. I know, she told me!"

Moose darted his eyes between the three, who were casually talking as if they had grown closer to each other. However, that wasn’t what concerned him.

"By the way, Wolf, why in the world are you here?" he asked, only to earn a confused look from the three. "Shouldn’t Tiger be the one in here? Or Ram? Why are you doing it?"

"You don’t know?" Tracy blinked innocently. "Hera already left."

"Hah?"

"We met her halfway," Victor clarified, but it didn’t seem that explained it to Moose.

"Right. She didn’t tell you, but Hera, Tiger, Ram, and Joker already left first, since she still has a lot of things to settle," Wolf explained. "In the meantime, I’ll be left in charge here until we fly to the enemy’s base..."

Wolf trailed off as he heard some rotor sounds from above. Looking up, his lips formed into a smirk.

"Who the hell are those now??" Moose remarked, catching at least six choppers heading in their direction.

"Dominic’s friends," answered Wolf. "They’re our backups."

Meanwhile...

"Ugh!" Charlotte whimpered as she struggled to break away from the people dragging her to the SUV next to the car she was transported in. But alas, no matter what she did, she still found herself tossed inside the backseat of the SUV.

"Ouch!" she winced, wriggling her bound hands behind her as she lay on her side. "Please, let me go! I didn’t do anything..."

Charlotte trailed off as her breath suddenly hitched upon sensing a person’s presence in the same backseat. Looking up, her eyes dilated as soon as her gaze landed on Hera’s side profile. She observed Hera’s pointy nose, her sharp jaw, the natural contour on her cheek, and the mix of darkness clouding her eyes.

’Beautiful,’ was Charlotte’s first thought. ’Hauntingly... beautiful.’

"You are..." she swallowed hard, hearing her own gulp in this stifling silence. "Hera?"

Slowly, Hera turned her head, and eyes fell on Charlotte. The latter almost choked on her own breath the second their eyes met. She looked like Florence, a younger version of Florence, and her aura almost made her mistake her as her mother.

"Hello, cousin." the corner of Hera’s lips curled. "I heard you want to talk to me. Well, I hope whatever you want to say will make this trip worthwhile, because you don’t want to waste my time, dear."
