Chapter 259: Chapter 257 I Know Everything
“I’m delighted to meet you, Mr. Cowell,” Gwyneth said with a smile, stretching out her hand. Her smile was sweet and slightly shy, yet a hint of sparkle flashed in her eyes as she looked at Adrian.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you too, Ms. Paltrow,” Adrian stood up and shrugged with a flourish, “I say, let’s not be so formal, call me Ed, Gwyneth. You have a lovely name.”
“Okay, Ed, I hope I’m not interrupting anything,” Gwyneth smiled as she sat down beside him, her legs together, her hands resting on them, poised and graceful, the picture of good breeding.
“Of course not, Ed and I were just discussing something important,” Spielberg smiled and shook his head. He seemed about to say something to Gwyneth, but after glancing at Adrian, he stood up instead: “Well, it’s time this old man took his leave, I’ll leave the younger ones to their time.”
“You’re an actress too, aren’t you, Gwyneth?” After Spielberg left, Adrian turned to the young woman and asked.
“Yes, my father is a producer at EGLS Company, and my mother is a movie actress. I’ve been practicing lines with my mom since I was little, so I’ve always wanted to be a great actress,” she said, her expression turning a bit somber, “but neither of my parents wants me to be an actress.”
“Is that so? That’s such a shame.” Adrian frowned immediately, his tone full of regret. Then, as if discovering something, he leaned in close to Gwyneth, clenching a fist over his mouth and carefully observing her.
He looked at her for several minutes, and so closely that their noses were nearly touching, able to feel each other’s breath, his dark eyes as deep as the bottom of a lake.
“Ed?” Gwyneth turned her head slightly, calling out with a bashful look, her eyes shifting as if pondering something.
“Just one minute, just a minute,” Adrian said softly, his gaze growing even more limpid and gentle, as if he were appraising a work of art. Though the move was cliché, it was foolproof, provided you had the confidence in yourself.
“Captain Hook, Wendy, the young girl, right?” he suddenly said this.
“How… how did you know.” Gwyneth’s eyes widened in surprise as she looked at Adrian.
“I have an eidetic memory, and I’ve seen almost every one of Steven’s films,” Adrian said with a smile, spreading his hands, “But for some things that didn’t make a lasting impression, it takes me a while to recall, so just now…”
He made an apologetic gesture, and the beaming Gwyneth didn’t take it to heart at all. Her excitement shone through as she looked into his gray-green eyes: “Wow, I’ve heard of people with photographic memories, but this is the first time I’ve met one in person!”
She then blushed as if remembering something awkward: “Oh, I’m sorry, Ed, I didn’t mean… well, that was rude of me. I got a little excited, I just…”
Watching her fumble for words, Adrian couldn’t help but laugh, reaching out to take her hand: “It’s okay, Gwyneth, don’t worry about it; you know, you look really cute right now.”
“Uh… thank you,” Gwyneth said with a silly grin, not pulling her hand away from Adrian’s grasp.
The soft music started up again, and Adrian glanced at the band before suddenly standing and making a polite gesture: “Would I have the honor of asking you for a dance, Gwyneth?”
“Of course,” Gwyneth stood up readily, and they both stepped into the dance area, taking each other’s arm with proper etiquette, they began to move with the music and the surrounding crowd.
This wasn’t any dance competition, and the music was very soothing, so everyone danced casually. Some simply strolled back and forth on the dance floor, and most were intimately chatting while dancing with their partners.

“… after the little boy received the money, he wrote a thank you letter to God: ‘Dear God, thank you very much for the money. However, I noticed that for some reason, you had to send it through Washington D.C., allowing those rascals to take 95 dollars.'” Gwyneth giggled again as Adrian finished the story.
“You’re really funny, Ed,” Gwyneth laughed as she spoke, then with a mischievous twinkle in her eyes, she added, “This means you must really hate the IRS, right?”
“Believe me, dear, every one of us hates them.” Adrian said with a serious face, making her laugh even more, nearly collapsing into his arms, trembling with laughter. The vibrant energy of youth was palpable, making Adrian, who wrapped his arm around her waist, inwardly sigh in appreciation.
“You know, Gwyneth, your smile is really beautiful,” he said, looking deeply into her eyes.
“Really?” Gwyneth responded to the compliment, but not with great pleasure, “It’s a pity not everyone thinks so. People say my face is a bit wide, I have to comb my hair down on both sides to cover parts of it. It might be okay when I don’t smile or just smile slightly, but when I laugh out loud, it becomes really ugly.”
“The person who said that must be someone with no taste,” Adrian chuckled lightly, “I’ve heard a saying, Gwyneth, that I think is very true: ‘There are no ugly women, only lazy ones.'”
Except for the different name, the rest was exactly the same. It would have been really amusing if Blanchett were here. But was she here? So Adrian felt perfectly justified to continue speaking, “No woman is perfect, even someone as beautiful as Elizabeth Taylor still has her imperfections, so it’s fine if one’s looks are not outstanding. There are many prerequisites for a woman’s beauty, such as knowing how to dress and if her attire matches her temperament.”
At this point, Adrian paused, while Gwyneth was already listening entranced.
With an inward chuckle, he continued, “In my opinion, temperament is often more important than looks because temperament can make a more lasting impression. Why do we say some actresses are just pretty faces? Because beyond their beauty, they have nothing else. But you’re different, Gwyneth. Your elegant temperament, though not yet fully formed, has its attractive qualities, and you seem to know exactly how to convey them, like…”
He leaned in close and took a gentle breath. They were already close to begin with, and this brought him even closer, their lips only about an inch apart. The rush of his masculine scent left Gwyneth showing a hint of dazedness.
“It’s very fresh, roses, tulips, jasmine, and a touch of iris—not Lancome Miracle nor Bvlgari Pour Femme, but Estee Lauder Pure Love Like Wind,” Adrian’s voice arose, “However, considering that the scent of iris is a bit too light, it can only be the latter. Am I right?”
“Oh… God, how did you figure that out?” Gwyneth asked in amazement, her eyes widened once more.
Adrian just smiled without answering directly, “Lancome Miracle is filled with an elegant charm, while Bvlgari Pour Femme is subtle and classy, but both are a tad too mature, so Estee Lauder Pure Love Like Wind suits a young woman of such temperament like you.”
After saying this, he quickly glanced at the person he had been observing out of the corner of his eye from the start.
“I don’t even know… what to say, Ed, you really are…” Gwyneth’s cheeks flushed with a light hue, her eyes conveying a much more bewitching look.
The music happened to stop right then, and Adrian let go of her hand and escorted her back to their seats.
“I think I have to leave now, Gwyneth,” he said with a sigh.
“You’re leaving?” Gwyneth, still immersed in the previous atmosphere, was brought back to reality.
“Yes, there are some other matters I need to attend to,” Adrian nodded.
“But…” Gwyneth frowned, not hiding her disappointment.
“I know, it’s a beautiful night, and I’m sorry,” Adrian said sincerely, looking at her, “I’m sorry, Gwyneth, I’d like to stay longer, but some things are already set in stone.”
At that moment, he suddenly smiled, “Would you give me your phone number?”
“Oh, sure.” Gwyneth started to look for paper and pen, but Adrian had already quickly handed them to her.
“You were prepared, weren’t you?” Gwyneth teased with a mock glare as she wrote down her phone number. Adrian kept silent while laughing, took the paper with her number on it, glanced at it, put it in his breast pocket, and then leaned in close to Gwyneth with a smile, asking, “May I leave behind a lovely memory before I go?”
“Hmm?” Gwyneth hadn’t reacted when she felt a damp sensation on the corner of her mouth. She was stunned for a moment, her cheeks starting to burn again, and she gave Adrian another teasing glare.
Adrian just smiled faintly, nodded and turned to walk out. Once outside the hall, the closed door blocked the noise inside. He took a deep breath, putting the matters of allure behind him, steadied his emotions, adjusted his clothes, and after a brief recollection, Adrian followed the hallway to the right. After walking briskly for a few steps and turning a corner, he saw the person he had been watching all evening.
She wore a bright red V-neck cocktail dress, revealing a small part of her beautiful back, her figure as striking as when he first saw her. Her walk, slightly unsteady, suggested a certain tantalizing allure.
Adrian quickly walked up from behind and wrapped his arms around her waist, “Hey, Kate, are you alright?”
“E… Ed?!” Kate Beckinsale instantly became flustered, raising her head, a fleeting panic in her eyes hidden by her wavy hair, followed by a slight struggle, “Don’t touch me…”
“Does it still hurt here?” Adrian held her firmly and pressed into her rib cage, causing Kate to stop abruptly, staring at him blankly, “How do you… how do you know?”
“Of course, I know. I know everything, Kate!” (To be continued, for more information, please visit www.qidian.com. More chapters, support the author, support genuine reading!)
