Magus Bloodlines.-Chapter 46: The official Beta Female
Chapter 46 - The official Beta Female
As the rest of the class left, Gavin and Erza walked around, looking for their other partners in crime. They found Jackson in the cafeteria, as he typically did, stuffing his face. Gavin shook his head as they joined him at the table. "Don't you ever stop eating, man?" Gavin asked as he sat a tray of food down and joined his roommate.
Jackson grinned at him as they joined, and he took another bite of food. "Nah, you know me better than that. "Also, after this morning's mess, I think comfort food is needed," Jackson said, noticing that Erza looked a bit healthier than before.
Helena grabbed a bite of food off Jackson's plate and glanced at Erza. "You feeling any better, red?" Helena asked in a soft voice.
Erza looked at Gavin to check if he was distracted. Then, she glared at Helena and kicked her shin under the table. "Just fine. Must have been something I ate recently," Erza said coldly in her direction. The last thing Erza wanted was attention drawn to that.
Gavin turned when he heard Helena grunt. He raised an eyebrow at Erza, asking without words. She looked sheepish and said, "I bumped her leg when I repositioned myself." She glanced at Helena, who cleared her throat and corroborated Erza's bad cover.
Helena frowned as she looked at Erza in confusion. But wisely chose not to pursue the matter for the moment.
Jackson looked at everyone and asked, "So, is anyone nervous at all about the competition?"
Gavin grinned like the battle junkie he was slowly becoming. "Not at all! If the twins are any sign, we'll face plenty of strong opponents. It'll be a great way to see how much stronger we've become," he said, excitement shining in his eyes at the thought of the upcoming challenges.
"It's all one-on-one battles to start with, right?" Helena asked for clarification. She wasn't as excited as Gavin. Still, she wanted to get back at that female twin, Kayla, she thought. She was particularly itching to declaw a certain kitty.
Gavin nodded. "Thats what Professor Okeeba said in class this morning." He didn't care for how they treated students at the academy. It was cruel and heartless. He hoped he got paired against the boy, Erick if he remembered right. "Could just be one round each, or maybe gauntlet style. I guess we won't know all the details until we arrive at the arena," he said as he took another bite of food.
Erza took a bite of food from her plate and moments later excused herself and rushed to the bathroom. Helena sighed and went after her. Gavin stayed behind, confused.
"I don't think it's something she ate," he said softly as he looked after Helena's fleeting form.
Jackson shook his head and wisely said nothing. If Erza hadn't talked to him yet, there must be a reason, he thought.
In the bathroom, Erza sat by one of the toilets. She had just emptied her stomach for the second time that morning. Helena stood outside the stall and offered her a wet paper towel to wipe her mouth and chin. "Something you ate, huh?" she asked sarcastically with a knowing look.

"I thought morning sickness happened only in the morning," Erza said softly. She stood and rubbed her stomach. She was a few weeks late already and hadn't told Gavin her suspicions yet.
Helena shook her head. "Morning sickness can be sneaky," she laughed softly as she helped Erza clean up and flushed the toilet for her.
"Thanks," Erza said, unsure what else to say given that the two of them weren't very close.
Helena shook her head with a small motion. "Don't worry about it, Red," she said quietly with a knowing glint in her eyes. "I've seen it before," she said in a soft tone.
Erza walked over and turned on the faucet to rinse her mouth out a few times. As the cold water poured out, she splashed her face and grabbed another towel to dry off. "Guess there's no denial about this now, huh?" she asked quietly, a faint smile lifted the corners of her mouth.
Helena laughed, throaty and rich. "Oh, there are all kinds of ways you can deny it, but you will know for certain once you take a test, red," Helena said while rubbing Erza's back with a soft touch.
"Why do you follow Gavin?" Erza asked her as she glanced at the reflection of the girl.
Helena hesitated, her small ministrations on Erza's back stopping for a moment. "Truth?" she asked as she considered it. "I was a lone wolf growing up. No clan or kin. He's the first alpha, true alpha I've met. There's something my wolf recognizes and longs to be near. Maybe it's a pack thing?" she asked in a gentle tone, uncertain of the reason herself.
"During the attack, he gave orders to me during the fight. Orders I may not have agreed with but felt an animal-like compulsion to obey and follow. Plus," she said, then blushed. "He's roommates with Jackson, and I really like him," she told Erza, a blush rising on her cheeks.
Erza laughed softly as she offered the smaller girl a warm, gentle hug. "We already knew you two care for each other. If this is going to be a lack thing, that's going to make me the alpha female, won't it?" she asked Helena, unsure of the exact dynamics.
Helena thought, then nodded as she hugged Erza back. "As the alpha's mate and mother of his unborn child, yes. That would make you the alpha female," she said after a moment's pause to consider everything.
"Well, every alpha needs a second in command, right?" Erza asked quietly. Thinking about securing the best protector possible for her future child.
Helena bit her lip as she looked at Erza before she nodded. "Yes, that's right," she answered finally.
"Then, at least for the time being, would you be my second in this crazy family he's building?" Erza asked with a soft, warm smile on her face.
Helena beamed with excitement. Being asked to be an alpha's second was a huge honor and responsibility. She nodded enthusiastically as she agreed. "Of course, Red," she said.
Erza chuckled at the girl's enthusiasm. "Good. Then keep this conversation between us for now. I don't want Gavin being distracted while everything is so chaotic. I'll find time to go to the doctor in town soon and get a confirmation on what we already suspect. Then I'll tell him when the time is right," Erza said softly.
When Helena was appointed as Erza's second-in-command, a surge of ancient magic surrounded them. A bond formed between them; unlike anything they had ever felt before. It connected them in a deep, primal way.
Erza stumbled back in shock. "What fresh hell is this now?" she said in confusion.
