"I've seen too many people like that."
"I don't want you to be next."
Leon appears sincere and genuine, but in reality, he is just a CPU. He has never been as noble or righteous as he claims. There are countless people in the world still suffering from cruel experiments—so why doesn't he save them?
Because, at his core, he is an egoist. He won't go out of his way to help strangers. Of course, if he happens to come across someone in need, he won't turn a blind eye. But he won't actively seek out suffering to stop it.
The most he can do is use Veronica to monitor the world, and when he discovers inhumane experiments, he exposes them online. That's why, in recent years, shocking videos of human experiments have surfaced mysteriously across the internet—so widespread that even social media platforms cannot erase them.
In a way, he has saved many people. But still, there are far too many who remain unfortunate.
That is the limit of what Leon can do. He can't save everyone. He isn't Captain America, Steve Rogers, or Spider-Man, Peter Parker. He admires and respects people like them, but he will never be one. It's too exhausting.
Of course, Skye doesn't know this. Looking into Leon's sincere and gentle eyes, she feels herself falling for him.
Before she can speak, Leon continues.
"Going from an ordinary girl to suddenly living in a mansion like this—feeling a sense of gap or self-doubt is natural."
As he speaks, Leon takes Skye's hand and helps her up from the bed. They walk through the hall and reach the floor-to-ceiling window, which opens automatically as the AI, Veronica, recognizes him. They step onto the balcony, which resembles a private terrace.
A hanging moon chair sways slightly in the breeze. There are tables and chairs set for tea and coffee, offering a perfect view of the distant sea.
Leon walks up to a marble railing, gazing at the calm ocean. His voice reaches Skye's ears.
"How do you think I made all this money? Do you think my words are just empty talk?"
"No, Skye. My family and I have a different fate from most people. Many live ordinary but happy lives with their families. But we were different. We lost our families when we were young."
"We were captured and taken to an experimental facility, subjected to cruel human experiments."
"They wanted to extract power and wealth from us."
"If nothing had changed, we would have died in those experiments—like so many other mutants before us."
"But we didn't give up. We found a chance to escape from that hellish place."
"While being hunted, we hid in the mountains, like rats afraid of the light. We had no choice but to rely on our intelligence—hiding, biding our time, and training together."
"And in the end, we turned from prey into hunters."
"Through years of effort, we finally achieved what we sought—wealth."
His voice remains calm as he speaks. When he finishes, he looks at Skye.
The girl presses her lips together, unsure of what to say.
Comfort him? No.
She knows the man before her does not need comfort. He is stronger than anyone she has ever met—not just in power, but in heart.
After going through such an ordeal, she understands that not everyone gets the chance to escape from hell. Let alone rise to his level.
"When I tell you all this, it's not to make you pity me."
"I just want you to understand—money is important to many, even desirable. But to us, it has always been just numbers. True wealth lies in the heart."
As he speaks, Leon reaches out and gently taps Skye's chest, right where her heart is.
"To the truly strong, money and status are nothing more than accessories."
"Skye, you are destined to be strong, but you must cultivate a heart that is mature enough to carry that strength."
Skye falls silent.
After a long moment, she exhales softly, looks into Leon's eyes, and tilts her head.
"Has anyone ever told you... you sound like a professor?"
"Hah! I'm far better than those professors," Leon chuckles, winking at her.
Skye feels as if her heart has been struck by Cupid's arrow.
"Alright. After lunch, I'll take you to see a new world."
"Where... is this?"
Skye stands on a deserted island, surrounded by endless sea. Confused, she looks out at the rolling waves.
Despite her growing acceptance of Leon's world, she still feels unsettled. The luxurious meals at the manor had already felt extravagant.
And then there was Leon's appetite.
The sheer amount of food he ate—an amount impossible for ten adults to finish—somehow disappeared into his stomach.
The strangest part was that he never seemed to rush, yet his eating speed was unbelievably fast. By the time Skye was full, Leon had devoured nearly everything.
She even glanced at his stomach—flat as ever.
Does he have a separate dimension inside his stomach? Otherwise, where does all that food go? How can he eat dozens of kilograms of food without consequence?
But what confused her even more came after.
She hadn't seen Leon move at all, yet with a simple snap of his fingers, something strange appeared beneath her feet—a magnificent, intricate pattern.
The next second, she was no longer in the manor.
She found herself standing on this beach.
If not for Leon standing beside her, she would have thought he had simply abandoned her here.
"This is an uninhabited island in the Pacific," Leon explains casually. "The surrounding hundred kilometers of ocean are locked by me. No matter what happens here, the outside world won't detect it. Even military satellites can't pinpoint this location."
Huh?
What happens here... won't be noticed?
Skye immediately picks up on the implication—and her thoughts turn a little... dirty.
Her face flushes bright red.
Leon sighs, raising a hand and lightly flicking her forehead.
