Chapter 115: Devoted

"Velvet darling, can you please help me test it? Cinderglass rounds, icicles—the works."

"W-What?" Ned stammered.

"Of course," Bianca answered. As she walked to a different room, she added, "We have a lot of high-level potions. Nothing to worry about."

"WAIT!"

Within seconds, Bianca pulled out Fralhame’s Lance and spun it like a baton. Bracing the buttstock on her shoulder, the witch aimed and fired.

Bang!

A loud detonation followed. The shockwave made the air in the room quake; the glass along the windows and the cabinets all shattered in the same moment. Something collided with Ned’s chest that abruptly sparked, along with a sharp sound.

The teenager winced in terror while covering his face, yet when he looked at his body, he was fine. Despite the flashiness of Bianca’s shot, it failed to penetrate or even move the onyx armor.

Not giving Ned time to breathe, icicle shards raced and pelted all along his armor. Ice VII lances followed soon after. The result, however, was still the same. freeweɓnovel.cøm

"Hmm. I guess that will have to do." Elian rubbed his chin and turned to Fluffy, "Can you help too?"

"Can I go all out?" the Weapon asked, with her eyes gleaming and tail swaying like crazy.

The humans who couldn’t hear her all tilted their heads in confusion.

"There is an open courtyard out back we use for deliveries. That should be enough," Bianca answered in his mind.

Elian took Ned’s new magic bag from the table and gestured to him, "Follow me." To the other two, he merely said, "Excuse me."

Fluffy and the rest of the Weapons followed Elian and Ned. Leaving Marcus and Tessa still in the dining room.

Bianca rejoined her Tyrant taking his hand into hers. But she neither acknowledged nor bid the other Breakers farewell. The witch treated them pretty much like air.

How childish, Elian teased his lover.

But he didn’t stop her. Bianca could do what she wanted; that was why he wanted to be strong in the first place.

"I no longer owe them anything. I follow only my Tyrant," Bianca said with a smirk. "You were quite dashing back there."

Fluffy began to groan out loud. The others laughed or tried to comfort her. Ned was far too preoccupied admiring his new gear.

Elian overheard Sebastian offer them some coffee and ask if they wished to wait or leave. Meanwhile, Marcus stood up in a bad mood. But Tessa acted differently.

"Can we watch?" Tessa asked out of the blue.

Sebastian paused, unable to answer. Though Bianca was beside Elian, she didn’t answer and only fiddled with her hair. Seeing her defer the decision to him, Elian couldn’t help but give her a light kiss on the cheek.

"Thank you," he whispered softly.

Elian shouted back, "Yes. Feel free."

Although Elian didn’t have any intention of helping the humans, showing them what Ned’s armor could do would make them wary of fighting him.

I also plan to show them that, should they try to steal it, the armor will kill the one who tries.

As Living Metal and Dominator Variants were part of him, he could reshape them as he wanted. When he gave the armor to Ned, he gave it a single command: "Slash anyone who touches you if they are not Ned."

Elian got the idea from his own armor—back when it first grew blades and shredded someone for trying to grab him. He remembered the scream. The blood. The way everyone backed away afterward.

But not the face. Not the name. That was already gone.

Elian just chalked it up to a forgotten memory. He had to get used to having holes in what he remembered. That was the price he needed to pay.

And that sacrifice had let him stand tall against Breakers he once saw as legends. A trade most would be willing to take if they knew the outcome.

Although he forgot who taught him, the lesson stayed. Violence as a deterrent.

Elian gave Ned’s mace and shield the same command: stab anyone who tries to steal you.

Their party reached the courtyard; Fluffy, excited, immediately ran to the far end of the clearing. By most people’s standards, Bianca’s courtyard looked like a spacious park.

Elian faced his friend and smiled, "I no longer remember you, but I know you are important to me. Can we start over?"

The young crusader clipped his mace to his belt and pushed up his glasses. "That is fine, Elian. To me, you are still the same person. You grew taller and beefier, but you are the same lunatic who made my childhood bearable."

Offering his hand for a handshake, Elian smiled. "I appreciate that."

Ned shook his hand without much fuss and bumped his shoulder to Elian’s. "Still, mistress Velvet is far too good for you. You have got to tell me your secret?"

"I got lucky."

The teenage crusader frowned and added, "Tsk. Look at this conceited bastard. Why brag to us single people? If you really say I’m your best friend, find me a sexy, beautiful, and rich girlfriend too!"

It was subtle. But as Elian mingled with Ned, he felt some of his memories flow back. Events that weren’t associated with anyone suddenly gained the face of the person before him. Within a few short minutes, his fondness for Ned grew leaps and bounds.

Hmm. I really did know him, huh? This feels nostalgic.

Bianca, who stood by them, suddenly interjected, "Ned, how do you feel about gorgeous, wealthy, terrifying widows?"

"Huh? I-I was just joking, Lady Velvet."

Unlike the smile she used as Velvet or Winter, Bianca interacted with Ned as if he were one of their own. And Elian’s gratitude for her grew because of her actions.

Bianca giggled and said frankly, "I am not." She took out a phone, swiped to a photo, and presented it to Ned. "This is Charlotte Daniels. One of my closest allies."

"Wow! She is gorgeous! She looks barely over twenty-five. Would she really like someone like me?"

The Witch smirked and made a small nod, "You are one of us now, Ned. You have immense clout. And yes, she would." Her face suddenly turned serious, "There is one thing, though."

Ned gulped in anxiousness at Bianca’s abrupt change. "Please tell me."

"Never betray her. Her previous husband was someone who sold her for a pretty face. You are my darling’s closest friend. And you seem trustworthy. Which is why I wish to introduce you. But if you lie or betray her, even Elian cannot save you from me."

"I-I understand." The teenager stammered. He then puffed out his chest and declared like a vow, "Lady Velvet, if Miss Charlotte truly accepts me, I vow to die for her alone. I will never betray my woman. Not for all the riches in the world."

"Wonderful. Give me a moment."

Elian hesitated. This wasn’t a casual introduction—this was tying two people together for life. In terms of marriage, Elian was raised to not believe in divorce. He was raised to believe in "till death do us part."

Bianca, are you sure about this?

"I am. He will show our sincerity to Charlotte. And she deserves better than the douches who keep hounding her. Ned is a very trustworthy person. Have you scanned your friend Elian?"

Feeling that there was something there, he did so for the first time.

Devoted?

"Yes, I have seen this talent in another before. They are extremely loyal people. Charlotte will consider his affection for this alone. Plus, he also tried his best to protect your parents even when no one asked him."

He seems like a really good friend to have.

"Indeed. Even though you only had one friend beside you, Elian, this person is worth more than even hundreds of people. He might be weak in combat, but he is someone who will die for you if you ask."

I see. Then we had better take care of him, shouldn’t we?

"Yes. I also want to pay Charlotte back. It seems like when I was gone, she helped Sebastian and my people stay afloat. I owe her."

You seem to have made good friends, too.

Bianca giggled and leaned into Elian’s shoulder, "Surprisingly."

The witch took back the phone, dialed a number, and placed it on loudspeaker. After a few rings, the other side answered.

"Charlotte, you know that time you said you were asking why you can’t get a man?"

"Velvet, why the hell are you gloating about now? Yes, your husband is amazing. Yes, mine betrayed me and brought me to the brink of destruction. I am busy; leave me to die in my solitude."

Even Elian could hear the exhaustion in her voice. To most people, looks and wealth were used to gauge and evaluate a potential partner, but to those who already had both, it was often much simpler. They only wanted someone who would never betray them.

"I heard from Sebastian."

"About what?"

"That you saved my business from going under without asking for anything in return."

"So? I had way too much money on the side, and I like the dresses you make, so what?"

"I want you in my faction, Charlotte."

"..."

"And as I cannot give you Silver, I will instead offer you his best friend."

"All so he can just stab me in the back for you. No thanks. I’m done with romance. Men are all the same. This bastard, whoever he is, will just betray me."

Bianca giggled and didn’t take offense at the accusation.

"He won’t. In fact, the chances that he will turn on us for you are quite high."

"Stop playing games, Velvet; you are talking as if that person has the Talent Devoted."

"He does."

Charlotte paused. "His name?"

"Nedeshwar Patel."

"I will call you back in an hour."

"Okay," Bianca then gave the phone to Ned and smiled, "good luck."
