Rebirth: CEO's Sweetheart Reaches the Life Pinnacle!-Chapter 41 - 39 Leng Mochen
Chapter 41: Chapter 39 Leng Mochen
Inside the police station, Li Si held the paper cup of hot water handed to her by a female officer, her entire body cold and trembling.
"Don’t be afraid, you’re safe now!"
Young Master Leng sat beside her on the row of chairs, comforting her. It seemed she was truly shaken; even after sitting for so long, her body still trembled, and she could barely hold the cup steady. A trace of anger flickered in his eyes.
"Thank you so much. If it weren’t for you, today I might have..."
Li Si looked at Young Master Leng with deep gratitude, her heart filled with a sense of narrowly escaping disaster. Having lived through two lifetimes that added up to nearly thirty years, she was encountering such an incident for the first time.
In the moment, her mind was blank, her emotions a mix of shock and rage, but not much fear. Yet, as she now recalled what had just transpired, an unspoken dread crept into her thoughts. If it hadn’t been for someone’s timely intervention, what might have happened to her?
It was hard to imagine. Even though she had a space to escape to, if the two men had knocked her unconscious and abducted her, anything was possible afterward.
Ever since her rebirth, everything had gone smoothly, making her somewhat complacent. She had especially forgotten how deceitful human nature could be—she might not intend harm, but others might still intend to harm her!
"Don’t mention it. Drink some hot water—this will help!"
"Alright!"
Li Si nodded. Her ears were still tuned to the sounds outside, her mind preoccupied with whether those two men would face the law. Scum like them roaming freely in society would only lead to more innocent girls and children suffering.
At this moment, Black Iron Tower and Young Master Long entered the office one after the other.
Black Iron Tower appeared jubilant. "Both of them have confessed! They’re repeat offenders of robbery and human trafficking. They had targeted you back at Pan Garden. Did you happen to gamble on a lucky stone before?"
Li Si nodded.
"Young lady, you need to be more cautious when you’re out and about—don’t flaunt your wealth, do you understand?" Black Iron Tower lectured sternly.
"Got it, officer uncle!" Li Si replied instinctively, noticing his older appearance, and addressing him as "uncle."
"Young lady, what are you saying? I’m the same age as Long Wu and the others—call me ’brother’!"
Black Iron Tower sounded dissatisfied. Though his skin was dark and he looked older, it wasn’t enough to warrant being called "uncle," right?
"Alright then, thank you, big brother!" Li Si followed suit smoothly.
"Ah, now that’s better! Anyway, we’ve finished recording the statement, so you’re free to leave. I’ve got other work to attend to!" With that, he waved her off.
"Alright then, Heizi, you carry on—we’ll meet up some other time. Thanks again for today!"
"Ugh, stop with the niceties—just go!"
The three of them then left the station.
"Where to now?" Young Master Long asked lazily, glancing at Leng Er to see what he thought.
"Young Master Leng, Young Master Long, let me treat you to dinner—it’s already this time of day!"
Li Si looked at the darkening sky, a faint unease surfacing in her heart. After the incident, it seemed she’d developed a lingering fear.
"Sounds great! We’re heroes who saved the beauty, after all—a meal sounds fitting!"
Young Master Long spoke as he went to fetch the car, leaving Li Si and Young Master Leng in silent wait.
"Brother Leng, what kind of food do you like?"
Everyone else called him Young Master Leng, so naturally, his last name must be Leng. Calling him "uncle" didn’t feel right, so she settled on "big brother."
"Seafood!"
Young Master Leng replied curtly. His pale visage, which Li Si had grown accustomed to, surprisingly didn’t feel unsettling; in fact, she found it oddly appealing.
The car stopped in front of them, and Young Master Leng gentlemanly opened the back door for Li Si to get in before taking the passenger seat himself.
"Where are we eating?"
Young Master Long asked as he drove away from the station.
"Brother Long, do you know any good places for seafood?"
Li Si asked from the back seat. Considering how Young Master Leng casually transferred thirty million without blinking, his taste in food was likely refined—it was better to defer to their judgment.
"Seafood? Let me think... Alright, let’s go to Sea Sky Residence—it’s decent enough!" With the destination decided, a few turns later, they arrived.
At Sea Sky Residence, Li Si felt somewhat reserved as she dined with the two men. Young Master Leng spoke only occasionally, leaving Young Master Long to carry the conversation. During dinner, Li Si learned why they were called Leng Er and Long Wu.
Apparently, it was based on their rankings within their families. Their real names were Leng Mochen and Long Wensong.
Li Si quietly mouthed "Leng Mochen," suddenly feeling an inexplicable ripple in her heart—a strong sense of curiosity and fascination toward this man.
Oddly, despite his stated preference for seafood, during the meal, he only had some seafood porridge. A man full of contradictions.
Li Si, still unsettled, barely ate anything—just a bit of seafood porridge and a few bites of food—before setting her utensils down.
At the table, the only one fully immersed in the meal was Long Wu, eating enthusiastically yet gracefully—a sight Li Si found extraordinary!
After the meal, Long Wu and Leng Er insisted on escorting Li Si home. She was genuinely scared and didn’t refuse.
At the entrance to her apartment building, Li Si felt apprehensive as she got out of the car. The thought of taking the elevator alone up to the top floor, however brief the time, filled her with dread.
Leng Er seemed to pick up on her emotions. "I’ll take you up!" he said, earning a dramatic eye-roll from Long Wu.
In the elevator, Li Si faintly caught the clean and refreshing scent emanating from Leng Er. The silent atmosphere wasn’t awkward; in fact, Li Si wished time would slow down just a little.
Leng Er, meanwhile, gazed at the lowered head of Li Si with a complex expression, his thoughts unfathomable.
With a soft "ding," the elevator soon reached the top floor.
Li Si stepped out, pausing to politely ask, "Brother Leng, would you like some tea before you leave?" Knowing Long Wu was waiting downstairs in the car, she asked merely out of courtesy. freёweɓnovel.com
"Sure!"
Li Si froze, her face heating up as she quickly found her keys to open the door. Leng Er’s lips curled into a slight smile as he followed her inside with a lightened mood.
Once inside, Li Si turned on the wall lamp and rummaged through the shoe cabinet, only to realize with regret that it was filled with her shoes—she hadn’t bought any men’s slippers as backup.
"Brother Leng, just wear your shoes inside—sorry, I only have women’s slippers at home!"
Li Si hurriedly slipped into her pink bunny-shaped slippers, blushing as she explained.
"No problem!"
Leng Er, in a pleasant mood, strode into the spacious living room, glanced around briefly before seating himself on the black-and-white patterned sofa. He patted the cushion, seemingly pleased with its softness.
Li Si, feeling like a nervous wife, darted into the kitchen. After searching for a while and not finding tea leaves, she felt embarrassed, realizing her spatial storage didn’t contain any either. What should she do? Inviting someone for tea without slippers or tea seemed like setting herself up for failure.
Taking a deep breath, she decided to improvise. From her spatial storage, she pulled out mangoes, lychees, and some cherries, quickly washed them and brought them out.
"Sorry, Brother Leng, I don’t stay here often, so I don’t have tea leaves. Could you have some fruit instead?" she said softly as she carefully placed the fruit platter in front of him.
"No problem. These cherries look very fresh—not bad!"
Leng Er didn’t stand on ceremony, picking up a few cherries and eating them.
Li Si let out a quiet sigh of relief—it seemed satisfactory.
After eating some fruit, Leng Er’s expression softened further. "Are you still scared, kid?"
"Huh?"
Li Si was startled. It was the first time he addressed her like that, and the "kid" from his mouth somehow gave her goosebumps.
"Be honest. Are you still scared? I bet you’re replaying the scene of those two men charging at you over and over in your mind, right?"
Li Si rubbed her chest anxiously, still haunted by the memory.
