Rebirth: CEO's Sweetheart Reaches the Life Pinnacle!-Chapter 44 - 42: Cold 2’s Cooking Skills
Chapter 44: Chapter 42: Cold 2’s Cooking Skills
Li Si glanced at the time—it was already noon. Brother Leng should be well-rested by now, right?
She walked into the living room and saw Leng Mochen already sitting upright on the sofa, holding a magazine in his hands.
"Ah, it’s twelve o’clock already. Brother Leng, are you feeling better? Shall we go out to eat?"
"I feel much better! The food outside isn’t very hygienic. Why don’t we go to the supermarket, buy some ingredients, and cook ourselves?" Leng Mochen, after taking some rest, felt much lighter, no longer weighed down by the fatigue he’d woken up with. Just a moment ago, he had looked in the mirror and even noticed his skin looking more radiant.
He couldn’t help but wonder—was it really the effect of that mountain spring water the little girl had given him?
"But my cooking skills aren’t great," Li Si said, a little embarrassed. It truly was a glaring weakness to not know how to cook!
"No problem, my cooking skills aren’t bad. Let’s head out!"
"Alright, alright! I’ve got quite a few things I need to add to my supplies anyway—you can help me pick!" Li Si cheered and darted back into her room to change into an outfit for going out.
The two headed downstairs. Leng Mochen took out his keys and remotely unlocked a black Hummer SUV.
Li Si got into the car in surprise. This rugged style didn’t seem to match him at all.
"What’s wrong? Do I not look like someone who drives this kind of car?" Leng Mochen drove the SUV steadily but kept secretly observing the little girl’s every move out of the corner of his eye.
"Not really—it’s just that I thought you’d drive something like the car Brother Long had yesterday. I can’t really explain it, but this car doesn’t quite match your personality!"
"Little girl, did you know that a person’s personality has two sides? The part they show to others and the part they keep hidden privately."
"Got it. So, what you’re saying is, you give off a refined and gentle vibe on the surface, but deep down, you’re someone who prefers freedom and wildness?" Li Si pondered for a moment before answering. If this was true, it would indeed be a surprising revelation.
As they stopped at a red light, Leng Mochen playfully tapped Li Si’s nose, his tone indulgent, "You little rascal!"
Li Si’s face instantly flushed, and her nose tingled slightly from where his cool fingers had touched it. She wailed internally—she’d lived two lifetimes, so why was she still behaving like a naive rookie? She had been in relationships before, so why was she blushing so easily now? Could it be because she’d been without love, without a man, for too long?
Leng Mochen hadn’t expected her to blush so easily. Deep down, a wave of satisfaction spread through him.
For the rest of the ride, Li Si didn’t say another word. Leng Mochen, in high spirits, drove on while listening to music, and they safely arrived at a nearby large supermarket.
Inside the supermarket, Leng Mochen pushed the shopping cart while Li Si picked out items. She even grabbed a few greens she already had stocked in her space dimension, planning to swap them out later without him noticing.
"Do you like spare ribs, little girl?" Leng Mochen asked, pointing at some nearby racks of ribs.
"Yes, I do!" Li Si had already adjusted her mood and was interacting naturally with him. After all, that playful gesture earlier might have just been something an older brother would do to a younger sister. With that thought helping her mentally reset, she slid seamlessly into the role of a younger sister.
After buying vegetables, meats, rice, and condiments on the first floor, the two moved onto the second floor to shop for kitchenware. In addition to picking up a rice cooker, they also found a nice little oven.
Li Si didn’t forget to toss a pair of light grey men’s size 43 cotton slippers into the cart. She estimated that Leng Mochen’s shoe size was around 42, so these should fit.
With a cart packed to the brim, they divided everything into four large bags and worked together to load them into the back of the car.
Back home, Li Si pulled out the pair of slippers from one of the bags and placed them at Leng Mochen’s feet. "Brother Leng, try these on. Do they fit?"
"Perfect fit. You’ve got a good eye!"
Leng Mochen complimented her with satisfaction. The slippers were comfortable to wear. In truth, he’d noticed when she slipped them into the cart earlier but had pretended not to see.
He couldn’t help but feel a small sense of joy about it. Only one pair? Did that mean this little girl considered him one of her own?
"Of course! My dad wore this size too!" Li Si said proudly. But after she said that, her eyes stung with emotion. If only her dad were still alive, how wonderful that would be!
"Don’t be sad, little girl. From the moment we’re born, our life’s countdown begins. It’s the same for you and me—everyone leaves eventually; it’s just a matter of sooner or later. So, live every day happily. Your dad is watching over you from above!"
"Mhm, I know. Look at me, at my age, still so childish. Brother Leng, I’ll go wash and cut the vegetables!" Li Si quickly gathered her emotions and put on a bright smile. Even though she wasn’t good at cooking, she could at least help out.
"Alright!"
When she thought he wasn’t paying attention, Li Si quietly swapped out the green beans, cucumbers, and shrimp with items from her dimensional space. She quickly sorted and cut them, hoping her skills were now seamless enough that he wouldn’t notice a thing.
Leng Mochen, wearing the newly purchased blue apron, casually rolled up the sleeves of his sky-blue shirt. If not for the hint of illness still visible on his face and poor complexion, he would undoubtedly make a stunningly attractive man.
He then showcased his impressive culinary skills. In no time, a cold cucumber salad, sweet-and-sour spare ribs, stir-fried green beans with pork belly, and braised shrimp were served one after another from the kitchen.
Li Si, like a little foodie, sniffed at the tempting aroma of the dishes, even swallowing involuntarily. Just by their appearance, they looked absolutely delicious.
The two sat across from each other at the white rectangular dining table. Li Si marveled at the food, glancing left and right. "Brother Leng, you’re amazing! If I hadn’t watched you cook the whole time, I wouldn’t believe you made this!" freewebnoveℓ.com
"It’s been a long time since I cooked myself. Give it a taste—tell me how it is." Leng Mochen served Li Si a piece of spare rib, a playful smile on his face.
"Delicious! It’s so delicious!" Li Si was overjoyed, her chopsticks moving quickly as she muttered incessantly between bites.
Leng Mochen was pleased by her reaction. Watching her small mouth busily chew and her almond-shaped eyes half-closed in enjoyment, she resembled an adorable little kitten.
"If it’s good, eat more!" Leng Mochen kept piling food into her bowl while he only had a few bites of the cold salad before diligently peeling the braised shrimp.
After eating until she was half full, Li Si looked up, feeling a little embarrassed. "Brother Leng, you eat too! Don’t just serve me. Here, let me peel one for you!" She picked up a shrimp and began peeling it, though no matter how hard she tried, her peeled shrimp didn’t look as neat as his.
"I need to be mindful of my diet for now—less oil, lighter flavors. I rely mostly on nutritional supplements."
"But those supplements are also toxic in their own way. You can’t treat them like regular meals! Brother Leng, I think you should consider taking a break from them for a while. There are plenty of food therapy remedies that have worked to cure illnesses!"
"You may have a point. Alright, I’ll give it a try." Leng Mochen picked up his chopsticks and took a bite of the sweet-and-sour spare ribs.
"Haha, that’s more like it. Brother Leng, I’ll toast to you with this juice—here’s to your speedy recovery!" Li Si raised her glass of orange juice, clinking it against his.
"I’ll take your kind words! And I must admit, your Brother Leng makes some pretty good food!" Leng Mochen teased, taking a sip of his drink.
"Haha," Li Si laughed joyfully. Leng Mochen really felt like a big brother to her. Growing up, she used to imagine how wonderful it would be to have a brother. And now, her wish had come true—this was perfect!
After the meal, once everything had been tidied up, Leng Mochen prepared to leave. Before he left, Li Si snuck a few fresh fruits from her space dimension into a shopping bag and gave it to him to take home.
With the bag of fruit in hand, Leng Mochen walked downstairs, sat in the car, but didn’t start the engine right away. Instead, he tapped his fingers on the steering wheel, deep in thought.
Finally, he glanced up in the direction of Li Si’s home, smiled faintly, and then drove away.
