Reborn: The Tyrant's Obsession-Chapter 127: Let’s make a bet, shall we?
Chapter 127: Let’s make a bet, shall we?
Years ago, Adrian had started a huge organization under Ella’s name privately.
Very few people were aware of it but the organization covered a huge range of orphanages, animal shelters and even schools for the underprivileged.
On Ella’s birthday everyday, Adrian would privately donate a huge amount to the organization.
With the help of the investment money, the organization would be expanded throughout the year, supporting more causes.
This has been a yearly ritual for since Ella came into Adrian’s life. And Ji Yan never understood it.
Why would his second master go to this extent for a woman he married out of nowhere? Ji Yan had tried to make sense of it over the years. Love would have been a simple answer but the woman couldn’t even stand being in the same room as him back then.
Then... why?
But regardless of how he had asked, Ji Yan had never gotten an answer from the man himself.
Right now, Ji Yan could not hold back his curiosity, "Second Master, is there a reason why we should do it now?"
Adrian tilted his head to the side, giving him a fleeting glance.
Ji Yan shivered, "It’s a huge fund and it should be regulated appropriately so it’s better to know if there would be such instances in the future..."
This organization spread over the entire Country V. The people in charge did not even know of Adrian’s identity. While constant donations were a huge support, the huge sums of money would definitely raise suspicions if not handled carefully.
Adrian propped his forehead against his fist and looked out of the window, "Today’s an important day for her."
Ji Yan froze in disbelief.
Before today, he had thought that putting such efforts on Ella’s birthday while she did not even know about it was already over the top.
But today, he realized that his second master was being very restrained before.
However, no matter what Ji Yan thought, he could not figure out the cause behind the man’s actions.
Hence, he immediately responded, "I will be on it.’’
...
Ella headed to the assigned classroom without any delay.
In her previous life, she could not carry on with her education and it had been a sore spot for her in the years that came.
This time, she changed her fate. Appearing for this exam was the biggest proof of it.
"Stop right there!"
Ella had barely stepped forward when a voice cut through the corridor.
Jenny stepped forward with two female staff by her side, "You need to be scanned properly."
Crowd gathered in the hallways.
Ella arched an eyebrow, "I have already gone through the regular procedures, Professor."
"Those are for normal students. You are appearing in the exams under special circumstances hence the rules are different for you."
The students gathered in the hallway started whispering amongst each other.
"Special conditions...?"
"My mother was also there when Ella was called to the Dean’s office. She told me that Professor Grimwood took a stand for her."
"Professor Grimwood’s backing her? Seriously?"
’’Given Ella Yu’s infamy and lack of attendance in the past years, she should have been expelled but now Grimwood announced that she would top all the papers."
"Ha! With toppers like Ruby Ambrose, such pests even dare to dream!"
On the other side, Ella ignored the rumors.
It was a big day for her. And probably one of her little achievements after her rebirth. There was no way she was about to let anyone ruin her mood.
"I was not notified officially about this condition, Professor."
’’Take my presence here as the official notification because the Dean had permitted me to do this," Jenny sighed softly, "Ella, as your professor, I am also concerned about you. But I don’t want you to take wrong steps under pressure."
As if she had not already made it clear, Jenny added in a clearer voice, "It’s only fair if you top the exams with your own capabilities instead of relying on outside help."
The crowd gasped.
"Ah, do you think she snuck in cheating materials?"
"It’s possible. How else would she have the guts to strut with such confidence?"
’’If she can top the paper by cheating, what are we here for? Even if she brought anything, I don’t think she would necessarily become a topper using it. They should just let her be instead of cornering her like this..."
Someone spoke in the crowd but the person was soon silenced by the horde of hate directed at Ella.
Jenny glanced at Ella, "To remain fair, we must check you today and if we find nothing on you, only then can you sit for exams."
Ella tilted her head and a cold glint flitted across her eyes.
Jenny was taken aback.
But in the next moment, Ella smiled politely, "Sure, I will comply with Professor’s instructions. But what if you don’t find anything on me?"
Jenny’s composure had shattered a little by that gaze earlier but at this moment, she looked at Ella calmly, "I know my students well. If there’s nothing on you, fine. But given your past record, no one’s expecting miracles. But still, at least, you would remain honest in this whole affair..."
Ella stepped forward, "If I top every paper fair and square, then you resign. How does it sound, Professor?"
Gasps rose in the crowd.
Jenny’s lips twitched.
"It seems you are not quite certain of your claims, Professor. Then, there is no reason for me to comply with your wishes and be singled out just based on your assumptions. Maybe, we should visit the Dean and..."
"No need." Jenny’s face blanched. She had acted without Dean Mo’s permission because she could not stand how cocky Ella seemed.
"Professor, what is it? Do you not want me to be checked properly for the sake of fairness?" Ella batted her eyelashes innocently.
Amongst the crowd, people found it weird.
"Hey, was Professor Jenny picking on Ella Yu?"
"No way. She’s always been fair, why would she target Ella?"
"That’s right. She is one of the fairest and gentlest professors. What reason would she have to pick on a student?"
