Chapter 18: Baby, have your dinner

The small puppy landed at a little distance and whimpered in pain.

’’What are you crying for?!" Esther kicked it again and again till it looked like it had no life left.

Only then did her anger fade a bit.

Ella, Ella, you will pay for all the humiliation that you put me through today.

I treat you so well but you just don’t know how to appreciate it!

Now, just wait and see!

Esther pulled out her phone and typed a text before sending it to an unknown number.

Inside the mansion.

Ella slumped on the couch, looking at the bag of food that Esther had brought for her.

Looking at her contemplating, one of the passing servants approached her, ’’Miss Yu, shall I unpack it for you?"

"No need. Help me throw it away,’’ Ella passed the bag to the woman.

The servant was shocked. In the past, Miss Yu cherished anything that her sister brought even if it was something absolutely ordinary.

But in the end, the servant accepted the bag and left with a small bow.

’’Rin, what are you doing over there? Go, help the Chef in dinner preparations!" she scolded a young maid on her way. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

The maid named Rin clutched her phone and meekly walked off to the kitchen.

Later that night, Ella had dinner by herself. After dinner, she went out to the garden and took a walk.

Adrian did not come out of his study the entire evening. Ella only saw Ji Yan a couple of times but the man seemed to be on the verge of tears.

Back in the study.

A depressing atmosphere had descended upon the people whose faces were visible on the laptop screen.

Adrian sat on the swivel chair, leaning back on it like a king. His eyes lacked interest for any breathing thing on Earth. But the oppressive air around him made it difficult for the others to even breathe loudly.

Ji Yan who stood at a distance quietly took out his flower embroidered handkerchief and discreetly dabbed it upon his forehead.

"P-President... About this project, we..."

"How long?" Two words escaped Adrian’s mouth in a whisper.

All of them turned pale. Even through the laptop screen, one could see them shivering with anxiety, looking anywhere but Adrian.

’’That... there are some complications so...’’ one of the people on the round table mustered his courage to speak,"...so it might take us a month...’’

’’A month?" Adrian tilted his chin.

Looking at his laptop from a high viewpoint, it seemed like he was an untouchable immortal glancing at pesky beings with disdain.

’’P-P-President...’’

Adrian opened his mouth again and the people all held their breath as if waiting for their final verdict before they saw their grave...’’

’’Two...’’

Ji Yan also closed his eyes, wishing these people an easy death. Knowing the second master, he would constrict the time limit to not even two weeks but rather, two days.

Two days to finish a project that should have originally taken 3 months but was constrained to 1 month by them? They might as well take their lives and enter the cycle of rebirth early on!

Everyone trembled in sheer terror. Even from the laptop screen, one could see each finest hair on their body standing up and swaying like it was thunderstruck.

But at this moment...

’Knock knock’

’’May I come in?"

Ji Yan held his breath. He really wished Miss Yu well but why must she harm her longevity and seek her own death all the time!

He was about to turn her away when Adrian shot him a ’Open the door’ look.

Ah? Ji Yan’s mind glitched but his body functioned. He opened the door while wondering.

Didn’t the Boss hate interruptions the most during work? He pampered Miss Yu but this... ah, holy heavens, was I living under a rock all this time?

When Ella’s sparkly and sunshiney face appeared, the gloominess in the study seemed to have melted into flowers.

Ella had taken another shower before dinner and now she was dressed in an oversized panda printed night suit. In her hands, she held a square-sized plate.

She walked around the table and approached Adrian naturally, "Baby, I heard you have yet to have your dinner so I got you a little bit of everything!"

The deathly blizzard of winter seemed to have been taken over by the fresh blow of spring.

Upon being addressed as ’baby’, warm trails of springly wind blew into Adrian’s dysfunctional mind. Like music, it repeated in his ears again and again.

’’Hmm? Did I interrupt something?" Seeing Ji Yan’s shocked face and met with Adrian’s intense gaze, Ella blinked.

An unfamiliar cough sounded in the study.

Ella straightened up and immediately turned around, only to notice the people on the video call who were sitting with astonished faces.

They could only hear her voice, see her hands and half of her back but their faces screamed a few words collectively—President has a woman?

Suddenly, Adrian turned to the laptop, ’’Two months. Meeting dismissed.’’

Ji Yan stumbled. T-two months? Wasn’t he about to demand the project to be done in two days?! He changed his mind just like that!

When Adrian closed the laptop, Ji Yan took it as his cue to leave. On his way out, he closed the door.

Adrian grabbed the plate from Ella’s hand and placed it on the desk.

Ella had no context of the meeting so she quickly clarified, ’’I thought you were working so I got you dinner. I had no idea you were in a meeting or else...’’

Her words were cut off when Adrian pulled her to his lap and wrapped his arm around her waist.

Her long hair fell over his shoulders and her face grazed against his cheek.

"It’s fine.’’

’’Hmm?" She was bewildered.

’’The meeting was nothing important. You can come over whenever you want.’’

Ella tucked her hair behind her ear.

Seeing that he seemed to be in a good mood, she felt like this was the right time to talk things out with him.

’’What do you think about us?" She asked.
