By the time Adrian released her, Ella’s brain was completely fuzzy and her body felt abnormally warm even in the freezing weather of Vermilion City.

She remained straight for a moment before she leaned towards him.

Adrian suddenly felt a weight against his shoulder and his heart skipped a beat.

He looked down at the girl who had leaned her head on his shoulder.

Adrian’s eyes softened, ’’Tired?" He raised his hand and his fingers played with her soft hair unconsciously.

Calm as he was, Ella’s mind was in a complete mess.

Why the hell her body reacted to him like this?

No wonder... No wonder great men declared that a true beauty was the cause of a nation’s downfall.

Look at her. A determined woman who should have been wary or pissed at all that transpired... instead of melting like marshmallows. Ughhh!

Just thinking about how she had leaned in for another kiss when he had stopped, Ella wanted to dig a hole and crawl into it.

Her face was heating up and her palms were clammy.

When Adrian moved, his cool scent wafted over in her nostrils and her thoughts trailed off.

Before Ella could think any further, his strong arm wrapped around her waist, ’’Sleep if you are tired.’’

Ella’s body moved before her mind did.

And after struggling about for a bit, she got off the man’s lap.

But she had barely managed to sit by herself when her body stiffened, ’’Ah...’’ She yelp as a tremor shot through her waist.

Adrian frowned, ’’What is it?"

Ella rubbed her waist gently and avoided his gaze, ’’I think it happened when I tripped earlier...’’

Her words trailed off when the man’s fingers reached out to her waist naturally.

"Tripped?" His eyes did not look away from her face.

But his fingers were positioned on her waist right where it she felt a little pain.

Ella was only momentarily distracted by the touch but his words snapped her right out of it.

’’Of course, I tripped and we fell... Baby, what else did you think of?"

Adrian’s eyes darkened a bit, one couldn’t tell what he was thinking.

Ella rolled her eyes inwardly. Caveman.

As he patiently massaged her waist, Ella messed around with him and the awkward air from earlier was gone as the fell back into their usual dynamics.

’’Baby, these days you must be worried because of me. Aren’t you very busy?"

As Adrian looked at the girl, he could see her eyes sparkling as if she was up to something again.

"Mm.’’

Ella sighed and very self-righteously, she said, ’’I know you are concerned for me to the point that you can’t eat or sleep or work but baby, I am concerned for you too.’’

’’Oh?" Adrian pressed on her waist.

Ella jumped, ’’Eheh... That’s ticklish... Ow...’’ She abruptly pushed his hand away.

His eyes narrowed.

’’Baby trust me, you have golden fingers. Every injury you touch heals by itself. I feel better already."

Adrian sat back on his seat, calmly looking ahead.

Soon, Ji Yan and Riri also made their appearance.

Ella turned her face to the side and let out a secret sigh of relief.

But suddenly, she stiffened as she felt an arm wrap around her waist.

Adrian didn’t say anything else, but his hand remained resting on her waist, firm and unmoving.

Ella stared out of the window, forcing herself to count the streetlamps.

Why did she feel like she was being held down gently... and yet couldn’t breathe?

Ella initially tried to play with Riri but every once in a while, she would feel a piercing gaze boring into her.

Hence, after a while, she decided to plop dead by feigning sleep.

After dropping her and Riri at Eve Mansion, Adrian left.

And she was not surprised. She had broached the topic regarding his work to ask him when he was going to the company.

Seeing the car disappearing in distance, a glint flickered in Ella’s eyes.

After lazing around and doing nothing but overthinking about ’certain events from today’ for a while, Ella decided that she needed a reset. A distraction.

And where could she get that?

Ella decided to check out the newly renovated library in the mansion.

The silence of the library might do what a hundred thoughts couldn’t, wash off the weight of his touch.

The moment she stepped inside the library, a positive aura seemed to encase her.

Just the smell of all those new books and that Beauty and the Beast styled library made her eyes sparkle.

’’To think that they really managed to prepare this library so fast...’’ As she walked, her fingers trailed across the cold wood, her eyes admiring the beautiful hardcovers.

’Woof woof’ Riri followed her, his tail swishing like helicopter blades.

’’Come, Riri. You will accompany mommy on a reading session today.’’ Ella winked at the puppy, who seemed super excited by the idea.

’Woof~ Woof~’

Ella was not a confused person so when she came across the business section, she straightforwardly skipped it.

After skipping a few such sections, she finally reached her desired goal.

Much to her surprise, there really was a specific section dedicated for novels and comics as she had told Ji Yan.

They spanned across multiple genres and extended over more than one wall.

Back then, Ella had said it in passing thinking that a library like this would really be a part of an ideal life.

She had even personally gone through the books selection process. And truth to be told, she thought they would consider it but in the end, they would not implement her ideas since this really wasn’t Adrian’s style.

’’Hmm...’’ Ella stroked her chin.

After pondering over it for a moment, she pulled out a comic book randomly.

When she glanced at it cover, she fell speechless for a moment.

’’What was I thinking when I put these kind of books in here...? What does she even mean by such a ridiculous title?" Clicking her tongue, she pushed the book back from where she had taken it.

And then she continued walking ahead.

Riri looked around, visibly confused but then he also followed her.

Ella had barely taken a few steps when she stopped.

Riri also halted, ’Woof?’

’’Say, Riri...’’ Ella slowly reached back to the comic from before and pulled it out, ’’I still think we should take a look at the content. We shouldn’t judge a book by its title, hmm?"

Riri swished his tail.

Ella squatted and pulled him up in her arms, ’’Such a naughty boy. Always curious about this and that. Fine, for you, mommy will go through this comic.’’

"_" Riri blinked and then woof’ed twice.

And somehow, one dumb pup and one sly human ended up on the sitting area, curled up on the couch, reading the comic in front of the fireplace.

But just as she turned the page to a scandalous kiss scene, urgent footsteps echoed across the hallway, fast, purposeful, and heading straight toward her.

Ella’s fingers paused mid-page.
