Reborn To Be The Imperial Consort [BL]-Chapter 135: Petals of Violet Chrysanthemum — VI
Chapter 135: Petals of Violet Chrysanthemum — VI
After Li Xinyuan had given his requirements, the Heavenly Demon left his daughter’s room to begin the preparations for the surgery.
"Before the Heavenly Demon leaves, do you consent to a few preliminary tests I may have to conduct on Young Miss?" Li Xinyuan asked from the bedside.
Cheon WuHui came to a halt at the door. His hands were folded behind his back, and after a brief moment of deliberation, he nodded in assent. "Whatever is required."
With that, the man left Li Xinyuan’s line of sight, blood red hair swaying behind him.
"Now then," Li Xinyuan shook his head, focusing himself on the child. "I do not particularly like this situation."
"Such a disease at this young age." Hu Lijing sighed, his voice low with lament. Beside him, the white-haired fox spirit remained silent.
"Well, this fate." The surgeon sighed, taking the girl’s hand in his own. "Hu Lijing, could I trouble you to cast a purification spell on this room? And Huiqi?"
The white-haired fox spirit flinched slightly. "Y-yes?" freewebnσvel.cøm
"Could you hand me a needle from the ones I entrusted you with?" Li Xinyuan asked and held his hand out.
"Yes, certainly."
Once the surgeon was provided with a thin sterilized needle, and the room had been purified by Hu Lijing, he held Yerin’s hand.
"We need a small amount of blood." Li Xinyuan murmured, rubbing alcohol on the area. "I’m apprehensive of this method since she will bleed easily."
"Do what is necessary, Xinyuan." Hu Lijing sighed. Li Xinyuan shrugged and drew the required amount of blood before swiftly healing the prick with his Qi.
After the blood was drawn, Li Xinyuan stood up and made for the window with an excuse of better light.
Once he was away from the two fox spirits, the surgeon quickly used the system reward.
The wait for the test result was nerve wracking. And the results confirmed Li Xinyuan’s fears.
Very High premature White Blood Cells, low Red Blood Cells, low Haemoglobin, low Hct...
The result made Li Xinyuan’s anxiety spiral.
"This is bad," he whispered, paced around the room anxiously. "Really, really bad. We have to perform the surgery as soon as we can. And for that, we need a donor. I must test for a donor... I have, what, seven HLA-Typing kits... What to do?"
...
And so, a few days passed in a tense blur.
Aimlessly, Bai Huiqi wandered in the wing they had been afforded for their stay. His thoughts stormed in his mind, depths of them perhaps one of a kind.
His brows were furrowed, lips set in a tight line. Hands folded in front, the four-tailed fox spirit paced forth, eyes roaming the crimson opulence.
Li Xinyuan was occupied in conducting various tests on the Heavenly Demon’s daughter while Hu Lijing assisted him whenever the need arose.
He, in contrast, had nothing better to do. Since his assistance was not required at the moment, Li Xinyuan had relieved him from observing the mysterious procedures.
They were beyond his lacking comprehension anyway.
With a sigh heaved, Bai Huiqi came to a stop at a tall wall he had walked upon.
I did not notice. Idly, he thought, head raised to look up. Why is this wall so intricate to begin with?
With a gentle movement, the fox spirit reached to place his hand on the wall, and pressed on it. After that, Bai Huiqi had disconnected from his sense of self and fallen into a daze.
By the time he came to, the white-haired fox found himself sitting on top of the wall. In surprise, he blinked down at himself.
This is first—
"By all means, We would ask why you have scaled the wall," an exasperatingly familiar and rich voice spoke from the ground. "But We’re aware Young One shall not appreciate it."
Unbidden, a scowl drew on his face, lips tugged down as he cast his eyes in the direction of the voice and saw the man.
Cheon WuHui, the feared Heavenly Demon, stood below him, gazing up with a strange smile on his lips. His crimson hair framed his features, norm forgotten in the fashion his hair flowed free down his shoulders. Hands behind his back, his disposition all too relaxed.
Bai Huiqi did not like that. And he did not know why it was so.
"..."
Leisurely, Cheon WuHui raised his eyebrows in a surprised askance. "Why, pray tell, does this Young One seem to dislike Us?"
"... I am not aware of the cause myself."
With an astonished noise, the man effortlessly lept to join Bai Huiqi on the wall. A lot of things about the man seemed so excruciatingly effortless.
It was as though he did not need to fit himself anywhere. He just did.
"Ah, is that the case?" The man hummed, bent forward slightly to close the distance between them.
At the proximity, Bai Huiqi shuddered, cringing. "Do not do that."
Cheon WuHui’s face expressed his bewilderment. Eyes narrowed with intrigue, he put his hand on his own chin thoughtfully.
What was the reason for all his surprise?
"What?" Undoubtedly rude, Bai Huiqi said, his tone was brazen.
Cheon WuHui smiled, a laugh escaping his lips. "Oh, rest assured. Nothing out of the ordinary, except that your behaviour is unlike any other We have seen."
"Pardon?"
"Commonly, masses would either cower in fear or reverence at the sight of Us. We, after all, are the Heavenly Demon, they have reason to fear and respect Us. Not you, however. And for that, I ought to order you slain."
Bai Huiqi’s eyes widened. He had been so far removed from humanely etiquettes that it hadn’t so much as occurred to him.
"I wasn’t aware."
Though Li Xinyuan had pulled him aside and tried to make him understand something like that before. Hu Lijing, being the nine-tailed fox thus having nearly nothing to fear, was no help for this matter.
"We surmised." the Heavenly Demon’s smile turned teasing. "Perhaps you weren’t able to comprehend Doctor Li’s behaviour completely either. We shall overlook it, though We find it hard to understand your apparent dislike for Us."
Bai Huiqi scrunched his nose lightly, pulling back to create some distance. "I am aware. It appears to come naturally to me."
"Oh, so what are We?" Cheon WuHui canted his head ever so slightly, eyes and tone alight with curiosity. "Your natural enemy, Young One?" He seemed to observe the white-haired man.
Bai Huiqi’s eyes widened. He looked up at Cheon WuHui, considering the possibility. "I do not reckon so, Heavenly Demon."
Cheon WuHui continued to observe him in silence, crimson—demonic, almost—gaze boring into his face intently. It forced the white-haired fox spirit to turn away.
"It must be hard, living for so long—four hundred years is a long time, after all." Without preamble, the Heavenly Demon commented.
At that, Bai Huiqi’s entire body stiffened. His head snapped to look at the man in stupor.
"You—"
"You two can’t be alone together," Hu Lijing’s calm voice cut between them, oblivious of the atmosphere. "Xinyuan commanded so."
Smoothly, the amber-haired man inserted himself between the two. His sudden arrival made Bai Huiqi flinch violently, and turn on his heels to face away from them.
Unperturbed by the interruption, Cheon WuHui caught Bai Huiqi’s gaze and smirked slightly, giving him a light wink.
"Well, We shall take our leave then."
