Reincarnated as the Elder's son: My Infinite Shop Points System-Chapter 15: Unseen curse.
Chapter 15 - Unseen curse.
Unseen phantom cycle.
A unique, supernatural phenomenon that was popular amongst the teens of the world, commonly among females.
Not many people knew of it—well, except for people from the North, due to their land being infested by corrupted magic, even then, those who did were viewed as crazy whenever they spoke about it.
Ria, Jared's sister, was one of the unfortunate people to fall into this category.
Ever since she was born, she had always had the issue of being forgotten by everyone around her, and also the fear of ever coming out of her enclosed room.
Once in every monthly cycle, everyone she ever loved or cared about would immediately forget about her existence.
Even her father and brother were not spared from this curse.
But still, once in every month, for some reason, she was remembered. It was only then she would step out of her room and tend to see what was happening in the outside world.
In other words, Ria Hunter had lived in isolation all her life since she was a child.
At least from Jared's perspective.
With one hand pressing against his forehead, Jared had a disgusted expression as he looked to the ground.
"It happened again, didn't it?" he whispered.
"What did?" Lucy asked.
Jared didn't bother to explain, since he was the only one who knew about the curse. Every time he tried to explain it to someone, they always seemed to forget that very day.
"Tell me, Lucy, was Ria... any better?"
His words struck Lucy as weird, but she responded anyway.
"From what I could tell, she seems alright. Although, I still wish she would come outside more. I'm sure the people of the village would be happy."
Hearing those words, and knowing they were inherently lies, made Jared feel a bit sick.
But there was one thing he didn't understand.
Up until he reincarnated, he never had any issues remembering who she was.
Unlike everyone else, he always seemed to retain his memories about her, often visiting her in her room and telling her stories.
So why... why did he forget about her this time?
Is it to say the curse is now affecting him too?
'Screw it!'
Jared stood up from where he was seated.
"Lucy, I am about to head out. Please make sure no one comes into my room," he said as he walked.
"Ah—l-lord Jared? Is something the matter?" Lucy was concerned, slightly turning around.
As soon as Jared opened the door, he met William standing at the entrance, holding his spear as usual.
"Lord Jared, good morning," he greeted.
Naturally having a crummy face, Jared couldn't help but frown a bit.
"William, what is it?"
William replied respectfully,
"You had told me to write a detailed report about the farmland and watering hole condition. I have done just that, on this paper right here."
He stretched the paper towards Jared.
"Oh, that was fast. I'll be sure to get back to it. I have something to take care of right now."
Jared didn't waste any time before he sprinted away.
William and Lucy could only stare at each other for a while, before giving themselves disgusted glances.
Jared, on the other hand, sped through the village, ignoring almost everyone who was greeting him.
'How could I have forgotten?'
His face hitched with pain as he ran.
Since she wanted to be as far away from the village while also being able to visit anytime she wanted, she lived up the hills, somewhere in the forest.
'She trusted me! How long could it have been? A month? A few days? Dammit, damn it all to hell!'
He ran up the hills as fast as he could.
After a couple of minutes, he finally arrived at the top of the hill, where the shabby-looking house was.
In actuality, it was far better than any of the houses in the village, due to the fact no one in the village built it.
It was a reading place soldiers of the war built to hide from enemies and treat their wounds, which explained why it looked so old and shabby.
Finished catching his breath, Jared took a deep breath before opening the door.
It was a Japanese-style house, two times bigger than his own room.
At the center, drawing on a white paper, was a young girl dressed in a white, robe-like long dress.
Her silver hair shining as if the sun knew nothing of its existence.
His loving elder sister whom he had once forgotten about.
Step after step, he strolled into the room, not making a single noise.
All that echoed was the humming sound of Ria singing while she drew.
Once he was close, he knelt down beside her.
Silence being the only thing standing between them.
After a while, Jared decided to speak.
"Ria—"
"Shut up, I'm drawing."
Her response was fast and swift. She didn't even bother to look at him.
She then turned the drawing towards him and uttered,
"What do you think? Does it look good?"
On the paper was a drawing of Jared getting stabbed by different blades. It was bad, but the message was pretty much sent.
"T... that looks... understandable."

"Is it not to your liking? I have several more if you're interested."
Once again, she wasn't looking at him.
But looking around, Jared could see the countless papers on the ground, each one filled with the same drawings.
Grabbing his left arm, Jared looked to the side, now finding it hard to look at her.
"I'm... sorry. I... promised I wouldn't forget. It's understandable that you're upset with me. I have failed as your brother. I can't apologize enough."
Ria paused, slowly turning her gaze to look at him.
Jared's eyes widened when he noticed the tears falling down her beautiful cheeks.
"Do you have any idea how long I've been alone?! You idiot."
"I'm sorry."
"Don't apologize, that only makes it worse."
"I'm sorry."
"Idiot!"
"This idiot... is sorry."
It seemed as if every time he apologized, her tears got even louder.
And all Jared could do was watch, as his beloved sister bawled out her pent-up sadness and frustration.
