Chapter 53: A fake doctor tries ƒrēenovelkiss.com

Jared paused, limbs stiff as he tried to remain calm despite there being a dragon a few inches away from his foot.

It wasn’t that he was scared; he just didn’t want to die.

The dragon in question was no bigger than a pet dog, or perhaps a wolf at best. It had blue scales and a long tail that seemed to have a life of its own.

But that wasn’t the only thing that caught his attention.

Tattooed on the body of the dragon were injuries, brutal injuries that, if they were on the body of any human, would most likely have caused death.

’What is a half-blood looking for in a place like this, all battered up? Did it perhaps get into a fight with another dragon? I doubt anything else could deal this much damage.’

Jared stood there for a while, contemplating his options.

Saving the dragon was one of those options. Playing the hero in order for the dragon to be somewhat indebted to him was up for debate, but then again, what if it just chose to kill him instead?

The other option would be to leave the dragon to die where it was. No issues, no problem.

’I can’t risk the lives of the people in the village for a hunch. Yeah, I should leave it here. Whether it survives or not is not my business.’

He turned around, about to walk away... He then remembered the statement the dragon made to him.

"I came seeking you because I needed help."

Jared paused.

Things got more complicated than they needed to be.

The blue dragon explicitly asked for his help... him leaving the dragon there meant he refused to help it.

And if the dragon were to survive the injuries it had, no doubt it would come hunting for Jared.

Sigh!

’Of all the things.’

Saving a dragon from dying was certainly not on the list of agendas he had hoped to do today.

He moved closer, hand carefully scooping the dragon from the ground like a baby. Once the blue dragon was safely resting in his arms, Jared set off toward the village.

But before then, he had received a bunch of notifications from the system.

[A new god has chosen to observe you.]

[The god is grateful you saved the blue dragon.]

[The god has chosen to only reveal their name after you have come to a conclusion.]

’Conclusion of what?’

Well, it didn’t matter anyway. Jared already had a plan in mind.

Arriving at the village, the first thing he did was head to his room and rest the dragon on the bed.

Now that the dragon was in his room, he couldn’t help but think—

’How the hell am I supposed to heal a dragon? I don’t have any skill that lets me do that, and even if I did, I don’t think magic can heal this level of damage.’

Jared sat there in thought.

It was then he picked up on the ragged breathing the dragon was giving out, almost as if it was in pain and was struggling to stay alive, which was a reasonable reaction from the dragon.

’Maybe... analgesics would work to calm it down a bit?’

Jared opened the shop.

[You have purchased one analgesic tablet.]

[50 SP has been deducted.]

’I don’t know much about drugs, but I’m pretty sure taking two of these can be dangerous, right?’

He questioned while staring at the analgesic container with his brow raised slightly.

’It’s a dragon; I doubt that would matter.’

Jared made up his mind and opened the dragon’s mouth with his finger, and then he began to pour all the pills inside its mouth as if feeding it candy.

With the container empty, Jared threw it to the side and went right back to observing the dragon.

His face lit up a bit when he noticed the dragon’s breathing had begun to calm down a bit. Though it was still in pain, it was manageable.

’To heal its injuries...’ Jared began to scan through the shop again, trying to find any items he could use.

The blue dragon was still bleeding, so obviously he needed some bandages, antiseptic spray to clean the wound, and then Neosporin to heal the injury.

[4000 SP has been deducted.]

Jared was no doctor; in fact, he was far from that. There was still a chance everything he was doing was wrong.

Growing up, he had lived with his aunt for the better part of his childhood. His parents were divorced, and his mom apparently wanted to take everything his father owned.

This led to them completely neglecting him to fight their battles, and that led to him being under his aunt’s care.

She was a doctor, a well-known one at that. He would sometimes follow her to the hospital and watch her treat other patients.

There were times he was jealous of how much she was loved by all of them. She treated them with care, and they repaid in kind.

Jared wanted to be part of that, and so, he not only followed her but also assisted her with the little he could do.

"Done."

Jared stepped back a bit; he had applied everything onto the dragon’s body and wrapped it up in bandages.

When sleeping like this, it was almost hard to imagine such a cute creature could single-handedly kill off an entire village.

Sigh!

He stood to his feet.

’I should go back to the site and join them; I can’t have them messing it up,’ he suddenly remembered. ’Shouldn’t Lucy and Kiara be back by now?’

...

At the watering bank.

Toward the south side of the village, a few distances away from where the main farm was, was a watering bank.

Too small to be considered an ocean, yet too big to be considered a river.

The water stretched far and wide, covering dozens of distances.

In essence, it was one of the biggest water reserves in the whole of the northern region.

This was why Olsen wanted to get his hands on it; the water was too valuable and resourceful to leave under a bunch of underdeveloped villagers.

And he wasn’t totally wrong.

The people of Sikone village only used the water for drinking and bathing. Not once had they ever tried to make any monetary value off it. In fact, it was not rare for people to just take water whenever they needed it.

A good example would be the cat people that now lived in a cave near the water bank.

When they first arrived, they threatened to kill everyone in the village so they could take their land.

Richard Hunter, the former elder of the village, knew they didn’t stand a chance against the people from the beast family, so he offered to allow them to use the water bank and claim it as their own for as long as they wanted.

Ever since then, the cat people have refused to leave, fully turning the place into their home.

Jared couldn’t care less about that. His order to Lucy and Kiara was simple: subdue the leader of the cat people and bring her to him.

"Good day to you; my name is Lucy Greyha. I have come to have a word with you."

That was Lucy, standing before the cat woman.

Both she and Kiara were currently in the cave where the cat people stayed.

To their surprise, there were a lot of them, almost over 50, and that was just the ones that were present.

Standing over 6 feet tall, these cat people were like mini giants with cat features. They had fur all over their bodies and appeared to be wearing animal skins.

They also held handmade weapons, at least the guards surrounding the cave room did.

"I am quite surprised. It has been a while since anyone from that... village dared to enter this cave. Are you ladies lost by any chance?" The cat leader asked. She was a woman by voice, but since she was in her cat form, they couldn’t be sure.

The cat woman was lying on a small rock, four different cat men towering behind her.

"No, we are not. I am the current elder’s assistant, and he has told me to call you for an audience."

As those words left Lucy’s lips, silence followed.

"The old man is dead?"

"Yes, he passed away." Lucy didn’t waste any time giving her responses.

Kiara, on the other hand, was trying her best to hide her disgust. These people were practically freeloaders, and yet they didn’t even bother to know if the former chief was alive or not.

"That’s too bad. Ah, humans, always having such short lives; it’s quite funny and sad at the same time. So I’m guessing another idiot took the title of elder. Who was it this time? Don’t tell me they gave it to that talentless son..."

Idiot?

Talentless?

Lucy forced a smile on her face.

"I’m sorry? I didn’t quite catch that; what did you say?"
