Reincarnated as the Elder's son: My Infinite Shop Points System-Chapter 54: Ulena, the cat leader.
Chapter 54: Ulena, the cat leader.
Cat people were supposed to be a hidden race within the beast family.
Due to their lineage, you could argue that there was no difference between them and demons. But they looked human, and at some point, they served the demon king.
But that was a long time ago.
Beast people, demi-humans, spirits, and many other species split off after the war that happened a few hundred years before.
This led to the cat people having to adapt to their change in surroundings, making them one of the most feared species in the northern region.
It has been said no one fought with a cat person and survived. Even among their own family, they were still superior, only slightly above the wolf people.
It has always been that way and stayed that way for a while. Hence, people knew not to take them for granted.
And yet—
"You didn’t hear what I said? Somehow I find that to be untrue." The cat leader frowned a bit; she could sense their dishonesty all the way to her seat.
Lucy and Kiara kept a straight face.
"Whatever do you mean? I couldn’t hear what you said, as such I asked. Is there a problem with that?"
Lucy could not be more obvious.
It was well known that lying to a cat person was useless as they could easily tell when they were being lied to—a divine blessing said to be given to them by their god.
"You mock me."
"..."
"I see..."
The cat woman stood up from where she was seated. Like a parent about to scold their child, or a king about to deliver a punishment, all four legs stood on the ground, red eyes glowing with intensity.
Slowly, the cat woman’s form began to glow, her cat-like body getting enveloped with mana.
Yes, the transformation began.
The once-cat now stood over five feet tall, on two legs, with a humanoid body. Although she still had most of her cat features, it was pretty obvious to see the clear difference in her forms.
This was the power of the leader; those who lead the cat people are blessed by the god they serve. This blessing allows the leader to have the option of changing forms whenever they feel like it.
"You there..." The cat woman pointed at Lucy, one hand resting on her waist, "Come here..."
"No." Lucy’s reply was fast and bold, and somehow, not as fast as the gasp that ripped through the crowd like a bandage.
Kiara couldn’t help but cover her mouth in order not to end up laughing out loud.
Anyone would laugh after seeing the shocked and embarrassed expression on the cat woman’s face.
"What? How dare you reject me! Ulena, the leader of the ca—"
"I mean no disrespect, but my lord is not the patient type. I suggest you come with me quickly. We are wasting enough time here."
Her once-embarrassed expression turned into rage, her fist clenched as she gritted her teeth.
"Kill them."
Her words were silent, almost as if she was speaking to herself.
"My lady?" The closest guard leaned closer, trying to be sure he heard right.
"Kill them!!!" Ulena raged, "Bring that brat’s head to me."
Before they could react, Kiara and Lucy found they had been surrounded by the cat people.
Outnumbered with no place to run since they already blocked the entrance, too.
"You just had to talk..." Kiara whispered, her back now facing Lucy’s.
"I couldn’t help it. She called Lord Jared an idiot."
"Right..." Kiara sighed, "So? You think you can take them all on? I can use the sniper to back you up."
Lucy raised a brow.
"Are you being serious? In such a cramped space? You think you can use the sniper?"
"Estimated guess."
"Yeah, I’m not risking that. If anything happens to you, I don’t think Lord—"
"Allow me this one thing."
That final word sounded so much like a plea—a plea for her to do something worth being praised for.
Even if Lucy were to lie to herself, every day for a year, she still wouldn’t be able to convince herself she didn’t feel some kind of sadness toward the fact Kiara hasn’t been upgraded to a five-star yet.
Kiara has always been someone who gave it her all, regardless of the situation.
When everyone starved, she chose to hunt, practicing day and night to perfect her skill.
When Olsen and his people came to loot the village, she offered herself instead, something no other person was willing to do.
Kiara... by merits, was the only one worthy enough to receive the affection Jared poured onto others.
Taking a deep breath, Lucy turned her gaze to Ulena. The evil smile on the cat woman’s face was enough to make anyone angry; it was the perfect rage-bait expression to make to a person.
"Okay, fine. If you can make one clear shot, and one of the guards drops to the ground, that should make the rest back off. After one shot, if they still keep pushing, shoot again. I’ll handle their leader myself."
Their plan was set, Kiara was on board, same as Lucy... Until—
"Wait... where’s the sniper?" Lucy turned around aggressively, after noticing the sniper was nowhere near Kiara, and the cat people had already begun to launch their attacks.
Did Kiara seriously think she had the sniper with her?
So she thought.
But once she got a look at Kiara’s face, she instantly knew Kiara had a plan she most likely didn’t know about.
"Let’s play..."
Kiara snapped her finger, a bright light appearing in her hand, where the sniper would soon be.
Not even a foot further, and two cat people had already set their spears forward, ready to pierce their guts out.
It was then Kiara acted.
She raised the sniper, pushing it up so she could look through the scope.
It was aimed at the head of a cat man, the one closest to her.
And then—
Bang!
