Reincarnated as the Elder's son: My Infinite Shop Points System-Chapter 60: Defences
Chapter 60: Defences
A couple of days had passed, and everything Jared had planned was beginning to fall into place.
Ulena and her people had already accepted their fate and began to follow Jared like everyone else.
Of course, they still found it hard to live among humans, but seeing as the others were willing to accept them with open arms, it became rather easier.
In truth, even the villagers didn’t feel comfortable sharing the same home with the Cat people.
Yet, they were willing to ignore all that since it came from Jared himself.
As long as he was on board with it, it didn’t matter what they did. It was almost as if it was impossible for them to doubt his decisions.
That very morning—
"We are done, My Lord," Jessica said as she allowed Jared to view the magnificent work they had completed.
Settled in a long line were unstacked building parts, each having different sizes and designs.
Since the workers were against Jared coming anywhere near the site until they were done, Jared really didn’t follow up with the process. According to them, they wanted to surprise him.
And it worked.
Jared was beyond shocked.
All he gave them was an outline of what the buildings were supposed to look like and how they were going to do it. Design-wise, he didn’t tell them anything as he had already planned to do it himself from the start.
"...incredible..."
Those words escaped from his mouth as he moved closer to the building.
The one in front of him looked to be the biggest. Taking a closer look, it was safe to guess it had five rooms, give or take.
How they were even able to complete the building that fast was beyond him.
Then again, there were more than 20 people working on it, so it wasn’t exactly unrealistic.
Click!
Jared opened the door, his eyes immediately scanning the massive space he had just walked into.
The walls were well-furnished. The ground wasn’t too hard to walk on and yet was weirdly sturdy.
There was really nothing he could complain about—everything was perfect as it was.
He sighed, one hand resting on his forehead.
"Honestly, these people are growing way too fast for me to even keep up with."
Soon, Jessica walked into the room.
"Is it to your liking, my lord? If there’s anything you don’t like, please allow me to make the changes."
Jared chuckled before turning around.
"Even if I found something I didn’t like, do you really think I would tell you about it?"
His response affected Jessica, and it was quite easy to tell.
Her eyes bubbled as she gripped her skirt, barely making eye contact with him.
"I... take it you don’t like it then?" Her voice was low and timid.
Jared folded his arms.
"You youngsters really can’t take a joke." He now pointed, "I’m actually jealous; you guys did a better job than I could ever hope to do. I’m impressed."
Just as easily, Jessica’s face lit up with joy.
"T-thank you, Lord, I really appreciate it. The others worked just as hard so it would come out perfect for you. I’m sure they’ll be happy to know you like it as well."
[Jessica’s morale has increased because you praised her.]
[You have earned 350 coins.]
Jared didn’t want to dwell too much on it. Praise them too much, and it starts to get to their heads.
So he changed the topic.
"How many did you make?"
"We made 40, as you requested. Five of which had multiple rooms to fit different people."
’I’m pretty sure I told them to do just 29. 40 is a lot. But at the same time, it’s quite profitable.’
He looked at her.
"Lucy will inspect the rest of the building parts to make sure everything is in order. Once she is done, you guys can start transporting them to the village."
Jessica bowed in response, then she asked—
"Are you not going to be present during the moving, my lord?"
"No, I won’t be present. I have something else I need to take care of. I’ll be back during the building process most likely, so don’t wait for me. Leave three buildings unattended to while you’re at it."
Jared began to walk out the door.
"... H-hia."
Once he got outside, he scanned the surroundings for a while and noticed Lucy was helping the others arrange the building parts they would soon be transporting.
Good, he could wander off without her insisting on following him.
After walking for a while and getting as far away as he could from the site, he suddenly stopped.
’This should be a good spot.’
[The god of Loyalty wonders what you are up to.]
[The goddess of trade is tired of your secrets.]
’There is no secret to hide; you guys are just nosy. The only reason I am doing this is because I need to be alone if I am going to focus. Now then, how does this thing work again?’
[You are currently using THE WILL OF THE DRAGON.]
[All dragons’ innate abilities now fall under your authority.]
[Your body is as light as a feather.]
’Oh? ... That simple?’
Jared’s body was being coated by a strange type of magic, one that allowed him to hover above the ground.
In other words, he was flying.
[The god of dragons is proud of your skill learning.]
[1000 coins have been donated.]
Jared saw the notifications play in front of him, but he didn’t seem to pay attention to any of them.
At the moment, he had bigger issues to take care of.
’Okay... so the flying is the only easy part... how do I move at all?’
Jared stretched both his arms forward, in hopes that his body would go soaring like a superhero he watched when he was a kid.
Unfortunately, that only made his body rotate a bit.
[The goddess of trade laughs at your predicament.]
’Shut up.’
Jared finally managed to balance himself in the air.
’Maybe it’s mental stuff; I just need to think of where I want to go, and my body will respond. Yes, that should be it.’
Picking up on where he wanted to head, Jared focused hard to send his thoughts faster through his body.
Paww!
Before he knew what happened, he had shot to the front like an arrow and crashed violently against the wall.
[The goddess of trade rolls on the ground laughing.]
Jared sighed.
At least now he knew how his ability worked.
Hovering above the ground, Jared did the same thing he did earlier—slowly, he began to ascend to the sky, until eventually, he could get a close look at the clouds.
Watching his village from the sky, Jared could see quite literally everything.
The watering hole, the flags he placed at the four corners of the village to show it had a ruler, hell, he could even see the land beyond—the untouched land.
But that wasn’t why he was there. Jared had a plan: he was going to make checkpoints in the village.
At the rate Sikone was progressing, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to fear another village coming to ambush them.
Olsen did it, and maybe others would do the same. Others who were even more ruthless and power-hungry.
The only luck Jared had with Olsen was the fact that Olsen was more business-minded. He wanted to make a profit and nothing else. He didn’t care about the village one bit.
The same couldn’t be said for any other village that was looking to take Sikone for themselves.
To prevent that from ever happening, Jared needed to set up a good amount of defense.
And now was as good a time as any.
With slow movements, he made his way toward the south side of the village—this was where most visitors in the northern region would come through if they were to visit Jared.
That also meant, if they were going to launch an attack, it would be from there.
Landing on the ground, Jared took in the scene before him: the smooth land that stretched far and wide, the trees that towered on both sides.
For some reason, he felt nostalgic.
’If I want to raise defenses, then I need to start small. The reason being, one of the houses Jessica and the others built will be coming here.
This is where I’ll keep some of the Cat people, have them act as full-time security. Cat people are strong, but that isn’t enough to protect this village. What I need—is heavy power.’
Jared clicked the air before him.
A while back, after the goddess of trade updated her trade, he saw one particular item that stuck with him. Something he would have bought earlier if only he had remembered.
[Item has been brought up.]
[Mecha Battlebot VR 2.0(25,000sp.): This is a highly advanced robot used mainly for combat and heavy lifting. It runs on mana and can only be powered using a mana stone.]
