Jared observed the hologram the system placed before him, displaying the build of the Mecha robot.

Obviously, Jared had never seen one before. Something like this didn’t exist back in his former world.

Rumors that the government wanted to build one did spread for a while after the invention of AI. But as it would seem, nothing was done about it.

As such, Jared would be no different from the rest of the villagers. He too would need to know how this robot worked.

The only reason he even knew something like this would exist was because he had written a few stories about mechas back when he was an author.

’Yes.’

He replied to the system after inputting the number of Mecha robots he wanted to purchase.

[You have purchased four Mecha robots.]

[100,000 cp has been deducted.]

Before him were four huge mecha robots, each having different colors but the same design.

They were huge, about 12 feet tall.

In comparison, Jared looked like a dwarf.

’So this is what a Mecha looks like. Funny, I didn’t expect it to look exactly like they did in animes and mangas.’

Jared moved closer, pressing his hand on the body of the Mecha, feeling how hard and smooth it was.

’It’s pretty steady. Can a blade even cut through this?’ he suddenly chuckled nervously, ’What are the chances I just bought something capable of causing and winning a war?’

He shook his head.

’As long as it remains under Sikone’s control, that won’t be happening. Now, let’s test this thing out.’

Jared took a single leap and ended up on the back of the robot.

There, he could see the handle sticking out.

He then pulled it, causing the door to slide right out, revealing the inside of the robot.

With one leg on the door and his hand resting on the body, Jared pulled his body halfway in to see what the inside looked like.

’Damn. It’s pretty dark in here.’

Jared, having no choice, leaped into the machine.

Once he was in there, he found himself already sitting on what seemed to be the mecha’s chair.

His two hands were also resting on a controller.

Suddenly—

(Mecha is awake.)

(Initializing play style with pilot.)

(Completed.)

(All engines are on green.)

(Mana supply has been acquired.)

(Pilot is good to go.)

Jared simply sat there, allowing the female instructor to finish giving her full check on the machine.

When she was done, Jared began to move the machine.

It wasn’t as hard as he thought it would be; all he did was use the controls like it was a video game, and the Mecha did as it was told.

He moved the robot all around the terrain, jumping from cliff to cliff while also checking all the qualities of the robot.

For starters, it had small jet packs on its back, not enough to make the robot fly but good for a speed boost.

Carefully molded to the back of the Mecha were two long blades, light enough to be wielded at the same time, while also being sharp enough to use.

And lastly, it had a barrier that automatically activated anytime the mech was about to take any damage.

Although it was mana-draining, it was the perfect, hell, probably the best weapon Jared could think to have.

After taking the Mech for a spin around the area, he decided to write a note with instructions on how the Mecha was going to be operated.

By the time he was done with that, the sun had begun to set.

’I should head back.’

He turned around, getting ready to lift off when he suddenly saw Kaira standing at a distance.

"...Kaira?"

Jared halted, dispelling the mana he had built up for the flight.

"I was searching for you all over the place. The buildings have been replaced in the village; everyone is waiting for you to give your blessing before they start moving in their things."

She didn’t move closer; instead, she just stood there, observing her master.

"...Is that so? Sorry, I lost track of time here, but I’m done now, we can head back." Jared took a couple of steps forward.

Of course, he could tell Kaira wanted to tell him something, but for some reason, he wanted to avoid it at all costs.

Walking past her, Jared thought he was free, a sigh of relief leaving his mouth.

He was wrong.

Kaira swiftly turned around and grabbed him by the arm.

With a pitiful look on her face, she uttered—

"Lord Jared! Do...do you hate me?" she asked.

Jared paused.

Ah—if only he had moved faster.

"Why do you ask? Is something bothering you?"

Kaira steeled herself, almost as if she found motivation in the fact he didn’t ignore her and asked a question.

"Yes, everything you do bothers me," she began. "Why do you treat me differently? You always seem to have some kind of distance growing every time I try to get close to you. Did I do something? Is it because I’m not as strong as the rest? I promise if you give me some time, I’ll be able to prove myself to you. I promise..."

Jared didn’t look back, not even once.

It wasn’t because he didn’t care about what she said; it was the opposite, rather.

He did care. As such, he didn’t know how he was supposed to react in that situation.

He couldn’t see her face, and yet, he could tell she was probably making a saddened expression just from how her voice sounded.

"Am I...am I that useless to you, my lord?"

Jared sighed.

"You’re worrying about the wrong thing here. You said the others are waiting for us, right? Then we should—"

Kaira suddenly positioned herself in front of him.

"You’re doing it again!" This time she shouted, "What’s so bad about me that makes you avoid me this way?! Is it because of how I looked down on you back then? I’m sorry, I truly am, I was stupid and a jerk, and every other insult you can think of. But if you keep treating me like this, Lord Jared, I’ll lose my mind!"

Jared tried his best to remain calm.

Had he truly been treating her differently?

If that were true, then he truly never noticed.

Seeing how Kaira was reacting, it meant it must have been happening for a while.

In all honesty, it was true that part of him was still upset about how she treated him in the past. But he wasn’t the type to mix profession with personal feelings.

So what could it be?

Just then, Kaira grabbed his hand and placed it on her chest.

Though she was panicking a bit, her dedication was over the top, making it hard to even see that she was shaking.

"I don’t care what I have to do. I don’t care how I do it either. I am tired of waiting. I’m sorry, but if this is what I need to do for you to pay attention to me, then I’ll do it."

Jared’s calmness slipped a bit, his eyes slowly glancing at his hand that was perfectly pressed against Kaira’s soft breasts.

Pulling her face closer, her skin burning and eyes filled with what seemed to be obsession, Kaira continued.

"This is exactly what I wanted. This. For you to look at only me, just me, like you are right now. Do you understand now, my lord? I am your fiancée; I should be good enough for you, so why are you not treating me as such?

Can you feel my heartbeat? It’s only racing this way because I am close to you. I enjoy this feeling. Use me. Touch me. Degrade me. I don’t care. All I care about is you giving me all your attention. Please, look at me, my lord."

Jared was stunned and speechless.

’What...the...fuck?’ he whispered in his mind, ’Has Kaira always been like this? What in the hell happened to her?’

Looking into her eyes, he could have sworn he saw them glow with a love heart beating inside.

[The character Kaira wants you all to herself.]

’So it’s not about the upgrade then. She’s...in love with me?’

Jared could barely believe it.

Kaira? He couldn’t have guessed it, even though the reason he kissed her was to spark the flames. He definitely didn’t expect it to go this way.

It was then he realized why he had been treating her differently from the rest.

Actually, it wasn’t him, rather, his past self. His past self who loved her very much.

That part of him was trying to avoid her, making him subconsciously push her away in order to not fall for her anymore when he already did.

With his cheeks slightly red, Jared’s face was hitched with fear.

’This...can’t be good.’
