Following that statement, the man was clearly addressing Carolline Ruiz, and as he spoke, his gaze was directed at the work badge on Carolline’s chest. He had excellent vision and could clearly see Carolline’s name on the badge.

“Sir, we cannot accept this. Please take it back,” Carolline flatly refused.

“Right, there are surveillance cameras here. If we are discovered, we’ll both be punished,” Avery Graham added with a smile. It was one thing for them to buy snacks for themselves, but accepting gifts from patients’ family members was a completely different matter.

“If that’s the case, I won’t put you in a difficult position. Carolline, hello, my name is Simon Carrington. I apologize for not showing up yesterday. My father had a sudden cerebral hemorrhage. When you have time, let’s formally meet, shall we?” Simon introduced himself and explained his absence the previous day.

Carolline was momentarily stunned, then quickly understood. This Simon Carrington, standing before her, was the person she was actually supposed to meet yesterday, not Bryan Hawkins.

“It’s fine, I had something to attend to yesterday as well, and I didn’t go either.” In order not to burden Simon with guilt, Carolline lied.

“Then let me treat you to dinner another day as an apology. How does that sound?” Simon asked, finally understanding why the intermediary hadn’t called to reprimand him.

Unbeknownst to Simon, his aunt had turned the situation around. She claimed that it was Carolline who had stood him up, pinning the blame on her even though Simon was at fault.

Later, the intermediary called Emily Hill, leading her to mistakenly believe that Carolline had indeed stood someone up. After all, it was not unreasonable for Carolline to have done such a thing.

“There’s no need for that, Mr. Carrington. Please go and attend to your own matters. We have to get back to work as well.” Carolline’s response hinted at her reluctance to discuss the matter further.

Simon understood that revealing his identity now was not very appropriate, considering how his mother had just treated Carolline quite rudely. But for some reason, the moment he saw Carolline, he felt an impulse to do so.

As soon as Simon left, Carolline was faced with a smirking Avery, who had an odd smile on her face. “Why are you grinning like that?”

Carolline asked while rubbing her hands together.

“Did you go on a blind date yesterday?” Avery guessed correctly. If two people who didn’t know each other had made an appointment together, it must have been related to a blind date.

“Stop being so nosy,” Carolline said, somewhat speechless.

“You’re only twenty years old, and I’m already twenty-two. I’m not in a rush, so why are you?” Avery couldn’t understand why Carolline, who had just graduated and started working, was in such a hurry to go on a blind date.

“It’s a long story. Eat your barbecue quickly, or it won’t taste good when it gets cold.” Carolline then helped herself to several skewers. Since she had already eaten a lot for dinner, she could only manage a few skewers before she was full. “Haven’t you had dinner yet? You bought so many.”

“Yeah, I didn’t eat dinner.” Avery nodded, but she hadn’t eaten much of the food she bought. She only ate the fish because she needed to lose weight, thinking she was too sturdy.

Eventually, they threw a lot of the barbecue away, as Carolline could no longer eat anymore. The two began to focus on their work, and soon it was late, around eleven-thirty at night. They took turns sleeping, with Avery taking the first half of the night and Carolline the second.

Avery went to the Resting Room to sleep at twelve, setting an alarm for three-fifty.

Carolline sat alone at her desk, pulling out her phone to browse through it with some boredom.
