Chapter 43 -43: Hero Saves the Beauty

At half past midnight, Simon Carrington sent his mother out, and Carolline Ruiz raised her head and gave a nod to them as a greeting without holding any grudges. Simon smiled back, but the middle-aged woman snorted at Carolline.

Carolline didn’t mind, Simon just sighed softly. When the two took the elevator, Simon talked to his mother, but she didn’t seem to care.

After Simon and his mother left, Carolline checked the wards. The patients and their families were basically resting, and no one had any needs. She returned to her desk and started reading a novel on her phone.

Not long after, she heard the sound of the elevator arriving. She thought Simon had come back, so she picked up the water glass nearby and went to the inner room to fill it up for a drink.

She took her time and thought that Simon should have returned to the ward by now. She walked out, only to see a drunken man with a red face lying on her desk. His eyes were bloodshot, and he stared at her.

Before she even approached, she smelled the strong scent of wine coming from the man. She felt nauseous and wondered how the drunken man could have entered the Hospital.

When she was younger, there used to be such people entering the duty rooms at their hospitals, scaring the female doctors on duty to refuse working night shifts. Later on, the hospital strengthened the security measures at the entrance, and such incidents have not happened for many years.

How did this drunken man enter the Hospital today, and how did he find his way to her office?

Her heart raced, and she clenched the water glass with her right hand so tightly that her knuckles were turning white. She was still afraid, not knowing what the man planned to do.

Seek treatment or cause trouble?

If he wanted to see a doctor, he should go to the Outpatient Department and find the duty doctor. They were in the Inpatient Department, and the office of the surgeon was downstairs, not on their floor.

“Hey, pretty girl, come here.” The drunken man saw Carolline and smiled. She couldn’t tell if he was genuinely drunk or pretending, but his lustful gaze made her feel sick.

“What do you want? If you need a doctor, go find one, or I’ll call security.” Carolline raised her head slightly and glanced at the wall clock. The security guards should be on patrol at this time, which reassured her a bit.

“Hah, call security? You go ahead and call them.” The drunken man suddenly stood up and walked toward Carolline.

She was genuinely scared now. She was alone, and it was late at night. The Hospital was huge, and she didn’t know when the security guards would arrive.

Fortunately, there was a desk between her and the drunken man. If he wanted to get close to her, he would have to cross it, so she took this opportunity to enter the inner room and lock the door from the inside.

The drunken man staggered into the room and tried to push the locked door. Realizing the door was locked, he became angry and threatened, “If you don’t come out, I’ll start smashing things. I’ll count to three.”

Carolline wanted to call for help, but she realized her phone was still on the desk. Pressing the bell for the security guards was also not an option since the button was outside the room, not inside.

She had no solutions now, and she covered her ears while listening to the sounds of the drunken man smashing things outside. Her heart trembled in fear, and she couldn’t believe he was actually following through on his threats.

“Still won’t come out, huh?” The drunken man wanted to force Carolline out, but her determination was stronger than he expected. “Listen, if you don’t come out, I’ll harass your patients. You want to try me?”

“How dare you.” Upon hearing this, Carolline threw caution to the wind. She opened the door and yelled.

Seeing the drunken man standing right in front of her with a lascivious grin, it was too late for her to close the door. The man lunged at her, pinning her to the ground.

It was early autumn, and the weather was still hot. Carolline was barely dressed, so it was easy for the drunken man to invade her skin. She felt sick and tried to kick and bite him, but it was futile.

The man was tall, almost 1.8 meters, and strong. With him on top of her, Carolline struggled to breathe. Despite her best efforts, the man only felt ticklish and comfortable from her fighting.

“Let me go, let me go! Help, help!” Carolline lost control when she heard the sound of her clothes being torn. She screamed without a care in the world.

The drunken man tried to cover her mouth, but Carolline desperately evaded it while continuing to cry for help. In frustration, the man impulsively grabbed her throat with one hand.

Soon, Carolline felt that she couldn’t breathe. Her air supply was decreasing with each passing second, and she struggled even to take a breath.

Her eyes bulged, and everything in her sight, from the ceiling to the drunken man’s face, gradually blurred.

Just when Carolline thought she was going to die, her throat was suddenly released, and the weight on her body disappeared. Due to the lack of air moments before, her throat hurt terribly.

People always want to stay alive. As soon as she was free, she began to take deep breaths. Perhaps she breathed too hard, as she started to cough uncontrollably.

Her face paled, and she saw Simon Carrington, who had appeared before her. His face contorted with rage as he continuously punched the drunken man’s abdomen. Despite the man’s pleas for mercy, Simon didn’t relent.

Two security guards rushed over and pulled Simon away from the drunken man.

“Carolline, are you okay?” Avery Graham heard the loud noise, put on her coat, and ran out with her hair disheveled. She had a cold and slept so deeply earlier in the afternoon.

“…” Carolline couldn’t speak, only shaking her head and shivering. If Simon hadn’t arrived in time, she couldn’t imagine what would have happened given the security guards’ late arrival.

“Don’t be afraid, it’s okay, it’s okay.” Avery cared for Carolline deeply and was two years older than her. She hugged Carolline in her arms and comforted her.

Many patients’ families were awakened by the commotion. They were furious to hear that a drunk man had caused trouble and almost assaulted the nurse. Even with two security guards present, they still angrily kicked the drunken man and spat on his face.

Simon stopped hitting the man and walked over to Carolline, taking off his coat to put over her. He gently asked, “Shall I take you home?”
