Secret World of Occultists-Chapter 52: Perfect Replica
Chapter 52: Perfect Replica
Abel grabbed the cane lying on the ground. He felt different this time—different from last time.
Could it be because the spirit energy has completely assimilated in my body? He wondered. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
He looked around his bedroom inside the mirror world. It was the same as last time, except...
"As I thought!" His eyes sparked with a brilliant light as he gazed at the tin bathtub containing water right before his feet.
He crouched down, placing his hand on the bathtub. "Hmm, the mirror world creates a near-perfect replica of the real world, huh?"
He saw that his clothes were also lying on the ground, just like they were in the real world.
"I’m assuming only replicas of inanimate objects are produced in the mirror world," he murmured.
Every object in the mirror world was immovable—even the water inside the bathtub was solid!
Everything was immovable except the door.
The youth rose to his feet and walked towards the bedroom door. He adjusted the flat cap on his head and then took deep breaths as his grip around the cane gradually tightened.
Alright, let’s see what’s out there! I wanna see how far I can go this time, he mused.
He twisted the knob and pulled the door open. An eerie creak was produced, followed by a gust of cold wind brushing against him, causing him to involuntarily shiver.
It was pitch-black outside. But that was the reason why he’d brought the lantern this time.
He stretched his hand, lighting up the area right before him. Unfortunately, the light from the lantern was only able to illuminate a radius of a few feet around him.
Anything more than that, and the light would instantly be devoured by the darkness.
His heartbeat gradually sped up as he looked at the illuminated area before his feet.
Shadowy miasma constantly ebbed and flowed beneath, making him wonder if there was any solid ground in front of him or not.
"Fuck it," he murmured and took a step forward.
Fortunately, the ground was indeed solid. He breathed a sigh of relief and took another step forward. Then, he stopped. That was as far as he was willing to go this time.
Alright, this is decent progress. At least, now I know that the dark area beyond the door is traversable, he thought to himself.
He then stretched his arm forward, trying to shed light around him. He squinted his eyes, trying to look into the distance.
Alas, it was too dark.
Abel was too scared to venture deeper into the darkness. He hesitated for only a moment before turning around, preparing to head back to the real world.
I shouldn’t be too reckless, he thought.
I feel like I’m already very reckless, to... begin... with—
His thoughts came to a gradual halt.
A drop of sweat trickled down the side of his forehead and his eyes slowly widened.
His heart sank and his back was drenched in a layer of cold sweat.
The door to his bedroom...
It was gone!
Abel found himself stranded in an ocean of darkness. He could swear that he had only taken two steps into this dark area. The door should have been right behind him.
Yet, it was nowhere to be found.
Fuck!
He looked around the place in utter panic. Suddenly, he felt this strange feeling that he was being watched again.
It was the same sensation he had felt when he had opened the door during his last visit to the mirror world.
His teeth started to clatter involuntarily and his body shuddered. He turned around, illuminating the area before him.
No one was there.
He was afraid to even let out a sound, fearing that it would draw whatever it was that was out there in the dark, silently watching him.
Abel lowered his head, unable to stop his body from trembling whatsoever.
What do I do now? How do I return to the real world? Am I gonna die now? Fuck!
He had completely lost his sense of direction. He didn’t know if he was even going to make it back to his flat.
After a brief moment of intense panic, his eyes suddenly flashed with ruthless resolve.
Fuck it!
He chose a random direction and continued walking, his steps initially slow and shaky, but gradually firm and wide.
It’s better to keep moving forward than to just wait in one spot, hoping for a miracle to happen, he thought to himself.
Please God, if you’re out there... help me! I promise not to be so reckless again!
He didn’t know how long had passed since he started walking. It could have been a few minutes, or perhaps a few hours.
Abel found that his perception of time was quite strange here. But he didn’t dwell too long on it and continued to move forward in a straight line.
Or, at least, what he thought was a straight line.
Gradually, as his eyes adjusted to the darkness, he was able to see the faint outline of this dark place that existed beyond the door.
It was a pathway. An enormous one.
A tunnel? That was the first thought that popped into his mind.
However, he couldn’t quite tell just how high the ceiling of this tunnel was. Or if there even was a ceiling.
Despite his eyes adjusting to the darkness, it was still too dark to see everything clearly.
After being able to make the faint outline of this tunnel, he turned to his side and walked straight until he reached a dark, shadowy wall.
Finally! His eyes flashed with a ray of hope.
I’ll just follow along this wall and try to find a door...
Yes, if there’s a door to my bedroom attached to this tunnel, why can’t there be other doors?
Fuck, there has to be at least another one!
His heart was gripped by fear, and he continued to walk alongside the wall of the enormous dark tunnel.
Suddenly, he turned to his side, his gaze landing on the wall. His eyes narrowed.
Is that...
He brought the lantern closer, illuminating the wall. It seemed that some type of mysterious curtain had been draped over the walls of the tunnel.
And behind the shadowy curtain...
Abel’s eyes squinted and he leaned forward.
That’s when he finally realized just what lay beyond the dark curtain.
Eyeballs!
