Shrouded Seascape-Chapter 1113. Goal
Chapter 1113. Goal
If not for the fact that imagining someone would create a duplicate fleshly body of the target instead of summoning them in front of her, Anna would have immediately imagined her target to appear in front of her.
As long as she was still within the dreamscape, anything imagined would become reality, all thanks to Edikth's aura.
Unfortunately, the two faceless figures earlier had died too early. Anna still had many things she wanted to imagine.
Anna stared at the patterns on the conch for a while before pointing to the right. "Let's go. He's to the east. He's not that fast, so we can definitely catch up."
While shuttling through the dense forest, Anna turned to the others, saying, "Once we see him later, hold your fire. I want him alive if possible."
She wanted to know the location of their headquarters.
"Your subordinate understands!" Jackal exclaimed, "We can capture him and make use of his ability. By then, we will have countless Anomalies in our hands!"
Jackal was so excited at the mere thought of it that he trembled like an aspen tree. How could he not be excited? After all, they would surely become even stronger than the IMF by then.
No one would be able to stop God Fhtagn's return by then.
"Hmph, who cares about a few more Anomalies? I'm going to imagine other things," Anna said, revealing a rare moment of excitement.
Gao Zhiming in her arms looked puzzled. "Sis, what are you going to imagine?"
"I'm going to imagine my original body. I've had enough with this fragile human body! It's easily emotional and weak! It's utterly useless!"
Just then, two green fireballs manifested in the air. They were like two lanterns as they vanquished both the darkness and the large swaths of greenery in the surroundings.
Anna stood at the helm of the group, stepping on the thick layer of ashes before her as she moved forward. Their target was the last remaining member of the trio from earlier.
According to the patterns on the conch, they were getting closer and closer to their target. Anna couldn't care less about the other party's origin. There was no way she was going to let them escape.
Of course, Anna was also planning on using their dreamscape to imagine her original body.
Since Edikth's aura was capable of distorting dreams into reality, Anna believed that there wouldn't be any issues materializing a Dioite's fleshly body.
She had no idea whether it was going to work or not, but she was willing to try anything as long as there was a sliver of a chance of success.
After all, the reward was just too tempting if the attempt succeeded. Becoming a Dioite once again meant that Anna would obtain the ability to freely manipulate human memories. In other words, she would no longer have to hide like a rat, and she would no longer have any issues altering Gao Zhiming's memories.
"Sis, what did your original body look like?" Gao Zhiming asked softly, curious about why his big sister wanted to return to her original body. For him, his sister was already perfect.
"My original body was beautiful, gorgeous, and... very powerful. You will never be in danger again once I've returned to my original body," Anna replied with a faint smile.
Roy and Li Lu, who were walking behind her, exchanged glances.
Anxiety gripped their hearts, but Roy was even more anxious than Li Lu. After all, he once saw Anna's original body in the latter's dreams. If Anna somehow managed to return to her original body, humanity would probably be in trouble.
However, Roy was utterly powerless to do anything at the moment. Moreover, their interests were now tied together.
Just then, whirring noises echoed in the distance, shattering the deathly silence in the dark forest. Moments later, more than ten helicopters painted with the IMF's logo appeared before everyone.
The bright-white lights from their searchlights cast a long shadow behind everyone.
"Anomaly 315!! Please drop your weapons, refrain from using any abilities, and surrender immediately! Otherwise, we will be forced to commence indiscriminate bombardment!"
"Anomaly 315!! Please drop your weapons, refrain from using any abilities, and surrender immediately! Otherwise, we will be forced to commence indiscriminate bombardment!"
A deafening voice echoed from the loudspeakers attached to the helicopters.
Everyone's faces turned grim. The IMF was here, and they had arrived so quickly.
Just then, the pitch-black forest came to life, and members of the IMF's mobile task forces wearing camouflage emerged and aimed their weapons at Anna and her group.
Among them was a small group of people clad in dark clothes seemingly woven from dark red feathers. Strangely enough, their eyes were glowing in the dark, making them appear as though they were yellow ping-pong balls.
Jackal staggered, almost keeling over backward upon seeing them.
"It's over. We're dead. Even Phoenix is here," Jackal remarked.
Roy and Li Lu's clearance levels were low, but Jackal was a different story. His clearance was high enough for him to know the true might of the five-man task force—Mobile Task Force Omicron-24 ("Phoenix").
"Anomaly 315!! Please drop your weapons, refrain from using any abilities, and surrender immediately! Otherwise, we will be forced to commence indiscriminate bombardment!"
Upon hearing the warning, Jackal gnashed his teeth and approached Anna with a solemn face. "High Priestess, hurry up and run away with your special ability. We'll stay here and hold them off so you can escape.
"If you do manage to escape, you absolutely must not make contact with any kind of flame for the next three years."
Despite the terrifying line-up, Anna showed not even a hint of panic at the sight. She put her finger to her lips, bit it lightly, and immediately started drawing something with her index finger.
Anna was drawing an array, and the peculiar cuneiform lines of varying sizes within the concentric circles made it clear that she was drawing the summoning array necessary to summon Edikth.
"You can fool them, but you can't fool me," Anna muttered, "And even if you managed to inform the IMF, how could they arrive here so quickly when you're not even an IMF member?
"There's also a fatal flaw in this dreamscape of yours, and that is the fact that the IMF would never be so polite to me. They've always had only one thought when facing me—to eliminate me by any means necessary!
"They would never ask me to surrender!"
With that, Anna began chanting the incantation to activate the array.
As soon as Anna's chanting pervaded the surroundings, the helicopters in the sky and the mobile task force members dissipated like smoke. The people and the helicopters were just illusions constructed to scare Anna away.
When the illusion had vanished, Anna stopped chanting. However, Anna hadn't actually defeated the other party. He had simply decided to remove Anna from the dreamscape. In other words, Anna could no longer use the same method that she had just used to contaminate the target's dream.
However, the target's timely retreat revealed one thing to Anna—they knew that the array she had just drawn could affect their dreamscape. This meant that the only method Anna could use against the other party's dreamscape had been revealed.
"We're speeding up, everyone! Since he managed to drag us into his dream, he must be nearby!" Anna exclaimed. He looked at the conch in her hand and started running deeper into the forest.
The last remaining member of the trio was slowing down.
Anna instantly saw her target as soon as she was out of the dense forest.
It turned out that her target was a woman all along, and she was wearing a suit. She flitted about the terrain with both hands on the ground, moving like a leopard. Her destination was a village in the distance.
"Roy! Fly and shoot her legs! We absolutely cannot let her reach that village!" Anna shouted anxiously. She couldn't let the earlier illusion come true.
