Snowstorm: I'm Super Rich in the Apocalypse-Chapter 119 - Discovering Good Things
Chapter 119: Chapter 119: Discovering Good Things
Chapter 119 -119: Discovering Good Things
Lu Ruisheng understood his wife’s little careful thoughts, yet he didn’t refuse. There indeed were many memories of theirs here.
The two settled down in a place of higher elevation, overlooking the surrounding scenery.
Under the moonlight, the entire city seemed a bit terrifying, with the empty high-rises and desolate suburbs giving off different vibes. Those abandoned skyscrapers always felt like they could transform into monsters, ready to swallow the world.
Lu Ruisheng placed his hand on Gu Pan’s shoulder. “Sometimes I feel like life is just like a dream.”

Gu Pan sighed too. “Indeed, sometimes the memories of my past life feel like a dream, and sometimes I feel that even the present isn’t real.”
“Such scenes used to be found only in novels or movies, but now they’re right before our eyes. Only when I touch you can I feel that this is real.”
“The only thing I’m grateful for is having you by my side in this life and the last.”
“Me too.”
As they talked, the conversation turned to their first encounter.
Gu Pan was tricked by her high school roommate into coming to this city during college. Since Gu Pan and her roommate had shared a dorm for three years in high school, their relationship was genuinely close. Her roommate had taken good care of her, always sharing with Gu Pan the treats her mother brought.
Even though they rarely saw each other after college, Gu Pan felt as close to her as to a family member.
Her roommate suddenly called her, claiming her mother was ill and needed money for a critical surgery in the provincial capital, even suggesting her life was in danger.
Worried, Gu Pan had taken leave and rushed over, only to find it was all a scam. Her roommate had gotten entangled in a pyramid scheme and had lured her in.
After meeting her roommate, it didn’t take long for Gu Pan to realize something was wrong. However, by then her roommate, accompanied by two men on a scarcely populated path, had made it impossible for Gu Pan to escape.
Just as she was being led into a dilapidated neighborhood, Gu Pan saw Lu Ruisheng, her only hope, and she called out to him, “Brother, what are you doing here?”
Lu Ruisheng, taken aback by her shout, quickly realized something was amiss. As a former special forces member, he could tell that the two men following the girl who called him “brother” were no good, carrying aggression in their demeanor.
So, he played along and walked over. “Are they bullying you?” His tone made him sound like a real brother to Gu Pan.
Gu Pan’s roommate was caught off guard. Who would have thought such a coincidence could happen?
But one of the men behind her, experienced as he was, questioned Lu Ruisheng, “Are you really her brother?”
Lu Ruisheng nodded. “I am.” After affirming, he moved to pull Gu Pan to his side, to protect her.
However, the man wasn’t convinced. After all, they had tricked her from another place; how could she coincidentally meet an acquaintance here?
Plus, by claiming to be her brother, they didn’t feel like siblings, so he challenged Lu Ruisheng, “Do you have any proof that she’s your sister? What if you’re the fraud?”
Gu Pan quickly replied, “How could I not recognize my own brother? I’m telling you, if you don’t let me go, my brother will call the police.”
There, Lu Ruisheng was certain that Gu Pan was being threatened. He took out his phone. “Indeed, we should call the police.”
Seeing Lu Ruisheng about to call the police, one of the men drew a knife and charged towards Lu Ruisheng.
Unfortunately, such skills were nothing before Lu Ruisheng; he kicked one so hard that they couldn’t get up after merely half a move.
The other was so scared that he tried to run but was also stopped by Lu Ruisheng and beaten down, then bound together with his accomplice.
Gu Pan’s roommate knelt on the ground, begging for mercy, claiming she had been deceived too and pleading with Gu Pan to let her go.
But Gu Pan didn’t give her a chance; she found her own phone on her person, called the police, because if they hadn’t encountered this kind Samaritan, if this good person didn’t have martial arts skills, they might very well have been dead or alive today.
Besides, if her roommate had been deceived, all the more reason to call the police, as only by doing so could her roommate truly be freed.
When the police arrived, Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng went with them to the station to give their statements and found out that they were from the same city, so they ended up returning home together.
After that, the two of them slowly developed feelings for each other—it could be said that they were rather fated.
Revisiting the old places, the two didn’t have the same mindset as before, but recalling the past still brought them joy.
During the day, the two still slept in the Space, and in the evening, they went out to find places to trade gold.
They even managed to get in touch with the boss behind the second-hand dealer; both of them were clever, giving the impression that they were working for others. Moreover, their wares weren’t fixed; they came from their higher-ups and the deals were still ongoing. This made others believe they didn’t have much on them. Even if someone wanted to use them to reach the people behind them, that would require several transactions, playing the long game. No one expected that for them it was a one-time deal.
Therefore, they hardly encountered any danger. If they felt the other party was untrustworthy, they’d find an excuse and slip away—no need to take risks.
The city was rather big, so today they only exchanged gold at two trading spots. They had arranged to meet the boss the following night, so they had to stay another day or two.
Gu Pan wasn’t in a hurry to leave either because she had other motives for coming, and staying a couple more days wouldn’t be a loss.
Besides, they also wanted to inquire about the base; their province had no news regarding that aspect.
The trade the next day went smoothly, further expanding the Space by 2050 square meters; previously it was 15060 square meters, now it was 17110 square meters. The city still had two spots they hadn’t visited. They planned to spread out and collect a bit more, which wouldn’t leave them far from 18000 square meters.
However, the next trading spot they went to erupted into a firefight as soon as they arrived. Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng didn’t want to get dragged into it and quickly fled on their motorcycle.
Going to the remaining spot, the haul wasn’t too big, only eight kilograms, as many second-hand dealers were affiliated with the previous spot and had gone to support it.
With the Space now at 17510 square meters, they had thought things were going well and would exceed 18000 square meters in the city. Little did they expect the remaining spots to belong to one boss, who got into a firefight. There was no point for Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng to wait for news or waste time there; it was better to move forward.
So the pair decided to head on, planning to check back on their return.
After agreeing on the plan, they set off for the next city before dawn.
On their way, some reflective panels caught their attention. Lu Ruisheng suddenly said with excitement, “Solar panels?”
Gu Pan was also thrilled, “Let’s go check it out.”
They got off the bike and walked over to what was a solar panel factory. Previously, they hadn’t dismissed the idea of using these, but back then, time was tight, the Space was not large enough, and they were living in an apartment; a large area was needed as a single panel wasn’t sufficient to power a household—otherwise, why would anyone use the national grid? If everyone installed these, wouldn’t it be cheaper?
In the current situation, compared to diesel generators, solar panels offered less value for money and were less practical.
Also, it wasn’t guaranteed there would always be sunshine in the apocalypse; Gu Pan had even experienced sandstorm days and polar nights, so at that time with limited space and limited funds, diesel generators were the best choice.
