SSS rank Mother-In-Law to an Invincible Family-Chapter 436: Humans Ran Away
The sun was high in the sky, hidden behind thick clouds that rolled lazily above the cliffs.
Deep inside the forest near the old spirit mine, dozens of beast squads were crouched among the shadows, waiting.
Garuum stood at the front of the army, arms crossed, tail twitching in impatience.
His thick frame towered over the rest, muscles bulging under the armor of hardened beast hide wrapped around his shoulders and chest.
His fangs were bared in what looked like a smile, but really, it was just irritation.
"How long are we supposed to wait here?" he grunted, glancing at the horizon. "It's been three days. Still no sign of humans. Are they really that scared?"
One of his captains stepped forward, a boar-like beast with scars down his snout. "They're cautious. They probably think we'll hit the cities again."
"Let them think whatever they want," Garuum snorted. "By the time they realize we're targeting their resources, we'll already be sitting on them."
The squads behind him were restless. Some lay sprawled across tree roots, sharpening their claws or munching on dried meat.
Others chatted in low voices, tossing stones or playing with sticks. It wasn't that they didn't take things seriously—it's just that their confidence was sky-high.
Garuum's army was one of the first to be assigned to this new tactic. A clean, precise hit on a nearby spirit vein site that the humans had been using for years.
Word was that the vein's energy had doubled after the World Upgrade, making it a big deal for any faction trying to grow quickly.
Garuum licked his teeth at the thought.
They had waited patiently. Scouts were sent ahead, then brought back nothing. No signs of guards. No formations. No human activity.
That was strange. But to Garuum, it only meant one thing.
"They knew we were coming," he said with a grin. "So they ran."
A few of the smarter beasts in the back exchanged glances. One of them, a younger falcon-type beast, spoke quietly to his squad.
"Doesn't this feel weird to you guys? That resource site is important. Why would they leave it open?"
"They didn't even try to trap it," another replied, scratching his chin. "Feels too easy."
But when one of them tried to raise the concern to the front, Garuum didn't have the patience to hear it.
"What, you scared of an empty field?" he growled. "Go back to the nest if you're that soft."
The others chuckled, especially the bigger captains.
"No humans, no traps, no trouble. This is a gift," one said, laughing. "We hit them where it hurts and didn't even have to lift a claw."
By evening, Garuum made the call.
"Move out," he shouted, his voice echoing through the trees. "We're taking the site now."
The squads moved quickly. They were in formation but relaxed, like they had already won.
When they arrived at the resource zone, the surprise was even bigger.
The place was clean. Too clean.
There were old tents, broken formation bases, and half-dug trenches—all signs that someone had been here.
But no one remained. Not a single cultivator. Not a single defensive spell is still active. There is not even a barrier to block entry.
Garuum stepped into the center and let out a deep laugh. "See? I told you. They're cowards."
He stomped forward and grabbed a small pot from the side of a cracked stone platform.
"Still warm. They were here recently. Probably packed up and ran the second they sensed us."
The others started cheering. Some beasts broke off to search the surroundings; others began tearing down whatever was left behind.
Inside the old camp storage tent, one of the captains found a few leftover jars of spiritual water and shouted, "They even left supplies!"
That sent another round of laughter through the ranks.
Garuum climbed a small boulder and raised his clawed fist.
"Listen up, all of you! This is what victory looks like!"
Cheers erupted around him.
"Tonight, we celebrate! Drink! Feast! Dance if you have to! We've taken this land, and tomorrow, we'll claim more!"
The camp exploded into movement.
Roars of joy.
Bags opened.
Food tossed over firepits.
Even some spirit beasts they brought along began running in circles, enjoying the open space.
But a few of the more experienced beasts stayed on the edges of the crowd, watching.
They didn't look happy.
"I don't like this," one of them whispered. "This feels too clean. Humans aren't stupid."
"They left behind just enough scraps to make us think they ran," another said. "But what if they're nearby? Waiting?"
"Maybe. Or maybe they want us to relax, lower our guard."

They looked toward Garuum, who was now grabbing a jug of fermented fruit drink and dumping it straight down his throat.
One of the younger beasts approached them. "Should we report this to the commander?"
The older one shook his head slowly. "He won't listen. He thinks this is already over."
As night fell, the beasts started lighting torches and setting up camp in the center of the resource zone.
A massive fire was lit.
The meat was tossed on spits.
Drinks were passed around.
Some beasts started singing tribal songs, stomping, and dancing around the fire.
Garuum stood tall above them all; his mouth stretched wide in victory.
"No humans. No traps. No resistance," he said again, like a mantra. "This is just the beginning."
Laughter followed.
Even the more cautious beasts couldn't help but smile a little.
But far, far from where the firelight reached—deep in the forest, hidden among the trees—there were quiet eyes watching.
They didn't move.
They didn't make a sound.
They were just waiting.
And while the beasts danced and celebrated, thinking the humans had run away in fear…
…someone else knew better.
