Chapter 87: CH 087: Dave & Tasha (part 1)
After Jackie declared Dave to be the new leader of the merger faction, he had approached him with a handshake which he had taken after seeing the message from the system.
"Let’s put our conflicts behind us?" Jackie asked. ƒгeewёbnovel.com
"Yeah, of course." Dave said as he nodded thoughtfully before excusing himself. "I appreciate the... unexpected turn of events, and your great sacrifice into making me the leader of the faction," he said, "but I have some personal matters that I need to take care of, which demands for my attention. I’ll need to take care of them before I can focus on... leading the faction."
Jackie nodded in acknowledgement, but he couldn’t help but speak as he took a step forward. "Perhaps it would be wise to take one of our members with you? For your safety, of course."
Dave shook his head firmly. "I appreciate the offer, Jackie, but I don’t want anyone coming with me. Having someone by my side doesn’t increase or decrease my powers, and before I came here, I’ve managed just fine on my own."
He paused, his expression firm. "Besides, where I’m going, I need to be alone. It’s not a place for... company."
The words hung in the air, and Jackie’s face showed a flicker of understanding. He nodded slowly, though a hint of concern still lingered in his eyes, but he decided not to press the matter further, "Very well, Leader. We’ll await your return tomorrow." With a slight bow, he stepped aside, allowing Dave to leave the factory.
With that, Dave turned and walked away, leaving the factory and its occupants behind. The cool night air enveloped him as he stepped out into the darkness, but it serves as a comfort to him compared to the bright lights of the factory with everyone staring at him.
He breathed deeply, feeling a sense of relief wash over him. For now, he was free to focus on his own problems, without the weight of the merger faction’s expectations.
The night air continue to blow wildly across Dave’s face as he sprinted towards White’s laboratory, his speed eating up the distance as he arrived at his destination in nothing less than three minutes. The city blurred around him, a kaleidoscope of lights and buildings that he passed through.
Before he knew it, he was standing in front of the laboratory, the familiar structure a welcome sight to him. The hybrids’ corpses were nowhere to be seen, as they had been cleared away by the hybrid Dave had left behind.
The chill in the air bit at Dave’s skin, and he felt a yawn creeping up his jaw. Midnight had passed only a few minutes ago, and the thought of getting some rest was tempting. He knew he had a few hours before dawn broke at 6 am, and the prospect of catching some sleep was appealing. The silence of the laboratory beckoned, and Dave’s eyelids began to droop, heavy with fatigue.
He then gave a low, husky instruction to the hybrid standing guard. "Get me up before dawn. I have a meeting with Tasha." Dave said. He also gave a few other instructions as for what it should do when Tasha arrives. The hybrid nodded silently, its gaze unwavering as Dave settled in for a rest.
A couple of hours ticked by, the darkness outside slowly giving way to the faintest hint of dawn. Meanwhile, Tasha had slipped out of the building where she was staying with the rest of her group, her footsteps light on the stairs as she made her way into the night.
She glanced around cautiously, ensuring that none of her group members had spotted her leave, or were following behind her. The last thing she needed was for them to suspect that she was sneaking out to meet White. With a deep breath, she set off into the darkness, her feet carrying her swiftly towards White’s laboratory.
As she walked alone through the deserted streets, her footsteps echoing off the abandoned buildings around her. She couldn’t help but think as a whirlwind of questions and doubts filled her mind. What had happened between White and Dave? Did Dave escape the lab? Or had something gone terribly wrong at the lab? Perhaps White had gotten caught by someone.
Her thoughts swirled with multiple possibilities, each one more unsettling than the last. She had tried to contact White since their last conversation, but her calls had gone unanswered. The lack of response had only fueled her anxiety.
As she walked, the laboratory loomed ahead, its familiar structure a beacon in the darkness. She had arrived at the laboratory to meet White, just as he had asked her to from the last call they had.
Her heart was beating a little faster as she approached the entrance, her mind racing with anticipation and unease. What would she find inside? What exactly happened that made White call and ask her to come here, she couldn’t help but wonder.
The building loomed ahead, its lights casting a warm glow over the surrounding area. As she approached, she noticed that the gate was tightly shut, a formidable barrier between her and the laboratory.
But just as she reached the gate, it swung open with a soft creak. And then a figure emerged from the shadows, its features illuminated by the light spilling out from the laboratory.
The figure that appeared before Tasha was a hybrid, and since they were all under white’s control, she could feel a sense of relief washing over her. Now she knew that at least White was safe.
The hybrid, with its eyes fixed on Tasha spoke in a low, monotone voice. "The master awaits you inside, please come in."
Tasha nodded, her curiosity piqued as she stepped through the gate. The metal clanged shut behind her, enclosing her within the laboratory’s grounds. She followed the hybrid, her eyes scanning the area as they walked towards the laboratory’s entrance.
Meanwhile, Dave’s eyes were fixed on a screen displaying the feed from one of the cameras. His gaze locked onto Tasha’s figure, a hint of anticipation in his eyes.
A low, determined smile spread across his face as he spoke to himself. "Alright, Tasha. Let’s settle the score between us."
The stage was set, and the players were in position. The game was just about to begin.
