Talentless Extra Of The Legendary Hero Academy-Chapter 108: To Sector Delta
Chapter 108: To Sector Delta
Severin shivered. He couldn’t help it.
What the fuck?
The monkey man had changed into something he could hardly describe. A man with a spider’s lower body and human upper body.
A grin split his lips. "Interesting! Just when have I tasted a power like this? To transform me so completely? And this is a story I’ve never even heard before!"
He looked down, his eyes glittering like wet black stones. "I’ve heard all the stories from the human world. But never a story like this. And it’s a real story believed and accepted by a lot of people. Who are you?"
Severin didn’t like the look on the man’s face. It was how he himself looked at his pawns sometimes; he didn’t like that the same look was turned on him.
Instead of answering, Severin asked, "What should I call you?"
"I am known as the Weaver. But you can now call me Anansi."
Severin nodded. "Anansi it is. So, do we have a deal?"
Anansi laughed, a laughter of joy, and his whole face lit up as if he couldn’t believe what was happening. "Of course we do! How will I get someone like you again?"
Severin’s eyes hardened. "What’s the deal again?"
Anansi looked down at him calmly. "I won’t kill you, and I’ll be your guide while you tell me five stories."
"You will not harm me, directly or indirectly, and you will be my guide while I tell you five stories."
Anansi grumbled, "Right."
Severin didn’t believe him, and until his five stories were finished, he didn’t think Anansi would do anything bad. So he had between that time to figure something out.
He finally stood up and looked around since he opened his eyes.
He was in some kind of wasteland, and beside him was a giant heap of trash. The ground was dry, and the sun a harsh ball.
"I fell on a heap of trash." He looked around. There was nothing he could see as far as the eyes could reach, only rocks and sand with the occasional heap of trash.
"Where is this place?" Severin asked.
"It’s the wasteland. The land surrounding Sector Delta."
Severin frowned. Wasn’t he supposed to be underground?
"It’s dangerous out here," Anansi said. His figure twisted and warped, his frame turned illusory, and then the monster form was gone, replaced by something else.
A thin man with a pale face stood before Severin. His head was big and bony with big eyes that looked as if they would fall off. "This is the form I take when I want to be casual. It’s also the one I use to lure out my prey."
Severin watched the man and wondered what he actually was. A shape-shifting monster? A man with a power related to that? Or a man who had the power to change stories to reality? Just what was he?
"My destination is Sector Delta," Severin said.
"Of course, where else? There’s little to see in the wasteland, but it provides the protection that the Sector doesn’t. Come with me; I will show you the way!"
Then they began to walk.
The land was dry, and the sun hot, so hot that Severin soon began to sweat.
Anansi, in his old man’s form, walked faster than him and kept chatting. He seemed to be in a happy mood. "You should have seen when I was a lord! My territory was a lively one, and everyone was happy. As happy as you can get here in Sector Delta."
Suddenly Anansi paused. "How did you lose your shadow?"
Severin stopped walking. Anansi had mentioned the same thing when they first woke up, but he didn’t think much of it then. He turned his head to look at his shadow, and as he said, he had no shadow.
For some reason, Severin shuddered, and a chill spread through his body. "Where is my shadow?"
Anansi looked at him curiously. "You sure are full of surprises. You don’t even know how you lost your shadow!"
Severin didn’t know how to reply.
Since he heard the news that he would be going to Sector Delta, he’d felt as if a long-waiting trap finally closed around him. His head felt half-submerged in water. He was at the edge of breaking down.
Him, who was used to manipulation and calculating the endgame, didn’t like the endgame that he was seeing for himself.
Anansi watched him, and Severin didn’t hide the battle that played on his face. But slowly he calmed himself, and his face turned rigid.
As if a bucket of cold water had been thrown on his face.
So what?
He would only do what he wanted, and always did. Try to survive by all means.
"Do you know how one can lose their shadow?"
Anansi nodded, still not taking his eyes off him. "It might be called a curse or ripped away by something."
"What are the consequences?" Severin asked. He realized then that there was no system in Sector Delta; whatever system existed didn’t have much of an influence. The powers of the people here must be different somehow.
Anansi frowned. "In Sector Delta, your shadow is important. It shields you from the corruption; it slows it down. But it’s different if it’s taken by someone or something. Or if it’s a curse.
"I heard a story that our shadows tie us down in the world, an anchor. Without it, you will die."
Severin raised his brows. "I see. Then how can I get it back or form a new one?"
Anansi scratched his cheek. "In Sector Delta, one of the territories belongs to a Lord who controls darkness and such, a cult. They should be able to call your shadow or form a new one for you."
Severin nodded. "Then to Sector Delta."
His first priority was to make sure he didn’t get too corrupted to be denied by the door, but now, his shadow that aided in the protection was gone.
The corruption would spread faster.
Anansi smiled. "To Sector Delta."
