The Gentle Maiden and Five Lustful Brothers-Chapter 148: Calling a Goddess
Chapter 148: Calling a Goddess
Arya was shocked to see how Violet was acting, the way she was speaking. Her friend has never sounded like that. Never looked like that.
Her whole demeanor was completely different.
It was like she cracked, and Darkness was filling in those cracks seeping in and making itself at home.
Her malice was deafening. The power that surrounded Violet before had also changed. It wasn’t the same docile and comforting energy; it was different now it felt charged and unpredictable.
And that made her dangerous.
One thing Arya knew for sure, she needed to inform the coven. Something was coming and the thing they feared was knocking on their front door.
Kalvin was speechless with how he saw Violet. He was positively terrified of her. He’s never heard of her ever having a mean bone in her body, and the woman he saw dripped with hatred.
He was rushing to step up for the search. He had hope, he could find that bracelet, it only had to have a slight bit of magic, and he could track it.
He would find Odette.
He would be a hero, and no doubt if he saved her, she’d make him a vampire, and they’d rule together one day. He wouldn’t just be King Consort, no, he’d be a real King.
He’d have a powerful queen by his side, and subjects loyal to him because he would be worthy in their eyes.
All he had to do was find his fiancée.
He wouldn’t fail. He couldn’t.
When Violet and Ash walked through the door, his body stiffened and his found himself holding his breath.
Their aura was sheer oppression. It was hard to swallow in their presence.
Failure was definitely not an option.
"We’ve got the hair and a photo of the bracelet, here" Violet spoke first handing him over the items he requested.
"Thank you, my queen." Kalvin answered respectfully. Now wasn’t the time for familiarity, he could read room.
She nodded and took a seat.
Kalvin wasn’t expecting her to stay and watch while he performed the ritual, it was an unsettling feeling the weight of her eyes on his back as he set up the alter with the world map.
Ignoring her heavy stare as best he could, he focused on the task at hand.
He picked up a crystal pendulum and began spinning it, scrying for the bracelet. Moving around the map and repeating the same chant.
But nothing changed.
Anxiety started settling in. No. No. No. This can’t be happening.
He kept going, and still nothing.
He kept trying, unwilling to give up yet. He had to succeed.
But still, no matter how much magic he pushed in, the result was the same.
"Well, this is disappointing." Ash scoffed. His arms crossed.
Kalvin’s hopes crumbled. They were so close to a lead. Kalvin let out and exasperated sigh.
He wanted Odette back just like everyone else.
"If that’s it, I need to go and meet with you mother." Violet said coldly. Walking out the door, Ash followed.
Kalvin’s shoulders dropped. His head hung low. He failed, when failure wasn’t an option, it still happened.
As much as he wanted the throne and power, he missed her smile.
Violet made her way to the moon room. Jeremy’s garden still as beautiful as ever. Even after he moved out and started his family with Rosa, Violet took special care of the garden. The back yard had expanded into the forest behind the lake now, the trees creating a boundary, which was where Odette spent so much of her time, the training grounds.
Violet’s heart ached looking off in the distance.
Ash sensing Violet’s shift reached over and gently rubbed her back, she glanced up and smiled. His Violet’s smile, the one he fell in love with. The one coated in sugar and honey.
Arriving at the Moon room Arya had already set up a space to cast.
"Always ready and prepared, that is something you never disappoint with." Ash complimented.
"Thank you, my King." Arya said respectfully.
She could sense the shift in Ash and Violet in the meeting room. Now was a time where they needed formalities.
They were gearing for war; things weren’t like they were before.
"Why did you want to meet and what is all this for?" Violet asked.
"It’s started. The wheel is turning. Fate, it moving forward. The Coven knows more than it’s letting on. The seer has seen something, and she won’t tell me. They said I’m too close to the situation. But they did tell me that. Fate has started playing its cards. The animals are getting restless, crime is rising. People are disappearing. They sense a shift in the magic." Arya answered with a frown.
"You mean the prophecy." Ash asked
"Yes." Arya answered firmly.
"So, what’s all this for?" asked Ash. "Why are you setting up for, what, a ritual?" freēwēbnovel.com
"I’m going to try and ask the Goddess. She favors you, blessed you with the MoonChild, she might be willing to give some answers." Arya answered.
"You think she’ll answer?" Ash asked skeptically. It’s not that he doubted Arya’s persuasiveness, but a goddess? Be for real. Ash wasn’t the hopeful type, he placed his bets on logic.
"I am hoping she will. What’s there to lose by trying?" Arya shrugged her shoulders and started setting up for the ritual.
"What do you need from us?" Violet asked curiously. She was wondering why Arya needed them here to do this.
"Because, like I said, she seems to favor you, hopefully having you will entice her to show and say something." Arya said casually.
Violet was skeptical but decided to entertain the idea. Any answers would be the better than nothing, and Violet was willing to try anything.
Even contacting a goddess.
Arya set up a circle with chalk and inside was a language neither Violet nor Ash could make out. She had candles at meeting points between connecting lines. There was a small circle in the center. Clear of any markings.
"Are you ready?" Arya looked to both Ash and Violet.
"Of course."
