The President's Pregnant, Ex-Wife-Chapter 458 – I met a guy, Julius
Chapter 458: Chapter 458 – I met a guy, Julius
"Even if I explain it, you won’t understand," Laura said.
Sabrina was determined to know more about Laura, as Robin had mentioned that Laura’s life was secretive and she might be married.
It was Sabrina’s hope that Laura wouldn’t be married so that Jacob could also have a chance at love.
The attraction between the two of them had been evident to onlookers for some time. "Why don’t you try? See me as a sister or best friend," Sabrina suggested, unaware that she had touched a sensitive spot in Laura.
Laura’s expression suddenly turned moody. "Sabrina, there is a price to pay for having a sister or best friend. If you become either of them in my life, then yours would be at risk. I prefer that we keep things formal."
Sabrina didn’t need to ask. She understood. It was the same with Robin. Anyone who wanted to attack him could go after those close to him.
However, Sabrina felt that Laura was referring to her job. She couldn’t see that there was more to the calm woman in front of her.
"Laura, what will you do if your job ends?"
"Death?" Laura smiled mockingly at herself. Her future was bleak, and she couldn’t see it.
Her heart was too clouded for hope. "I don’t mind dying after I give justice to those who deserve it, even if they aren’t alive to see it."
Sabrina was at a loss and said plainly, "I don’t know about you, but when we worked together at the office, I always saw you as a friend, and when you moved in with us, I always thought of you as a sister. Family shares. And family keeps each other’s secrets."
Laura chuckled, feeling that Sabrina had no idea what she was getting herself into. "Sabrina, my burden is heavy."
"Then share it with me. My enemies are gone and I no longer have to look over my shoulders," Sabrina shrugged. Even if the last thing she could do was help Laura, she was willing to do it wholeheartedly.
"Have you ever heard of the name Gershon Clide?" Laura suddenly asked. In spite of the loud music, Sabrina heard the name and her heart thumped a little.
"The governor who was murdered with his wife, three children, maids, and bodyguards?"
Laura was amazed by how she knew the details offhand, which meant that the news had traveled very far.
"You know the details quite well, but he is my father and I was the reason why my family was murdered."
Laura’s face was expressionless, Sabrina could understand that though she had grown a thick skin to the past, her heart was still fragile.
This was going to be indeed heavy for Sabrina. Looking here and there, she beckoned to one of the maids before asking Laura, "Do you need more grape juice?"
Laura’s glass was empty, so Sabrina didn’t wait for an answer and said to the maid, "Please get us some more grape juice."
The maid returned with a tray and four glasses of grape juice. After Sabrina thanked her, she sipped the juice and felt herself ready to hear more about Laura’s story.
"Please tell me what happened."
"It was all because of that four-letter word, ’love,’" Laura recalled bitterly. "My father was very strict with my relationships and I was homeschooled. I always kicked against the way he controlled every part of our lives."
A small smile stretched Laura’s lips as she recalled her elder brother. "Can’t go anywhere without a bodyguard and can’t have friends. My sister was younger and brother was older, he loved to spoil me and sneak me out sometimes."
"If I had known, I would have been obedient to my father. My brother and I disguised on the day before my seventeenth birthday and we went to one of his friends’ graduation party."
With a small smile, she continued to recount the story of her past. "I met a guy, Julius. I never knew that he knew my identity before I told him and I never knew he was a spy."
"I gave him my number and we talked a lot on the phone. I told him everything about myself but all he fed me were lies. The relationship took almost a year and in between, I sneaked out to meet him twice, he spoiled me like a little princess. I was in love with him and we shared light kisses. He said he was afraid because I was seventeen." freёnovelkiss.com
"When I was about to turn eighteen, I was excited. I wanted to experience my first real passionate kiss, and he promised to disguise himself and make it to my birthday party. The night before the party, three people broke into my father’s villa and murdered everyone in cold blood."
Laura’s expression was still emotionless, and though Sabrina knew the end, she was now learning the shocking details of the story of the governor and his family, who were murdered years ago in cold blood.
"They wore masks and I was the only one left. One of them spoke, and I felt like my heart was ripped from my chest. It was Julius. He removed his mask and said, ’thank you for making it easy for me.’ Right there and then, he shot me in the chest without regret."
"The pain of the betrayal was worse than the pain of the bullet," Laura concluded, but Sabrina was still a little confused.
"The governor never had a daughter named Laura."
"My real name is Genesis Clide." Sabrina’s brows raised in shock. Genesis Clide was indeed the eldest daughter of the governor.
"When I woke up at the hospital, a man told me that they couldn’t find the person who killed my family but feared the person might try to finish what he started if he finds out that I survived," Laura continued to say, and due to how shocked Sabrina was, she couldn’t even speak.
"I mentioned the name, but there were no records of a man named Julius. Everything he told me about himself was lies. The man, that’s our top boss, suggested it was best to spread the news that the whole family died and called me Laura."
"It was the name of his late daughter who was also shot in the chest but didn’t survive it, and that was how I joined the agency."
This was the first time Laura opened up about her private life, and it felt strangely relieving.
Sabrina soon recovered from her shock, her respect growing for the woman who had endured so much in life.
"I’m so sorry."
Laura shrugged. "Ever since I completed my training at the agency, I’ve been using all my resources to track down Julius."
Sabrina’s eyes lit up, and she wanted the man to be brought to his knees. "Did you find anything?" She asked eagerly.
