Transmigrating from a zombie world to become the mecha kings wife-Chapter 417: Another fool
Chapter 417: Another fool
So early in the morning, before the annoying ducks could begin to quack, Scarlet was rudely woken by Severus.
His persistent growls, howls, and deep bellowing of her name were like the buzzing of an annoying and very persistent mosquito.
Aversely, she opened her eyes and muttered, "It’s a weekend."
She was off, she refused to work on weekends, even the souls she reaped on weekends were less than the ones she did on weekdays.
"Come on, something is happening in the underworld and you don’t want to miss it."
Whiny and unenthusiastic, Scarlet grabbed the blankets and covered her head.
"Leave me alone Severus."
Coming from the bathroom, Esong heard her complaining and he laughed.
Severus was sleeping on his doggy bed in the corner of their bedroom so how was he bothering her? Amused he shook his head and left the bedroom.
As soon as the door closed, Severus opened his eyes and jumped on to the bed.
"Wake up, wake up," he shook Scarlet.
"Oooooh," Scarlet groaned.
She sat up and sighed unhappily, "What is it?" she asked, very much irritated. "This better be important or else I am going to shave off all your fur."
Severus snorted and thought to himself, as if she can catch me.
"Hurry up, the old deity is using your playbook to scam another strong soul into becoming a reaper."
Scratching her hair lazily, she responded, "What playbook?"
"Just come with me." Severus put his paw on her hand and teleported them to the underworld.
They appeared near the gates, hidden away behind the fluffy clouds. Other reapers were here as well, watching whatever was happening below.
"Hey hound, nice outfit." Someone shouted and cackled.
It was then that Scarlet realized she was dressed in her pink silk pajamas, and she had a bunny ear head band on her head.
Other reapers noticed too and they chuckled. Someone even catcalled and whistled playfully. Those who were quick took pictures and uploaded them on to the forum.
"Aah, so embarrassing." she whispered and snapped her fingers.
Her pajamas changed into her reaper outfit instantly.
Despite changing, she had a feeling that her pink pajamas would somehow find their way to the forum. Her fame would just keep growing.
"Hey listen." Severus told her.
Scarlet sharpened her hearing and overheard the old deity lamenting about the lack of reapers and the beautiful worlds with bodies waiting for souls.
"Oh my gosh!!" she exclaimed.
"Hey hound, we heard that you cut the line one person at a time and it took you ten years to get to the front. This one beat you by six whole years and made it to the gates in four." someone yelled.
"So, will he fall for it or not?"
"I bet ten energy crystals he does."
"Naah, this is a man’s soul, men are not easily tricked like women. I bet you one soul soothing pearl that he doesn’t."
More and more opinions were being shouted, and more reapers were arriving.
"This one did not cut the line like the hound he formed his own line and walked directly." someone said.
Again, many eyes moved to Scarlet and she covered her eyes. That tragic incident would never be forgotten, it would forever be the stain on her reaper life.
"See I told you that you would not want to miss this." Severus told her.
"Look, his eyes are darting around." someone shouted.
"I know that look." another said.
The reapers laughed, and again, they looked at her.
The video of her darting into a portal had been viewed and reviewed over and over on the forum. It was like a hit movie that one never tired of watching.
Hopefully, this one would create a new saga and overshadow her shameful past.
"Do it." she whispered hopefully.
If she was a betting woman, she would be right up there with those who were placing bets.
With all the noise around, it was almost as if they were in a market place.
"Don’t do it." A female reaper said.
"Do it, do it," Scarlet whispered.
She had a great feeling about another person being scammed, well life as a grim reaper was not too bad so calling it being scammed was probably a little to much.
"Oh crap!!" the reaper who bet a soul soothing pearl cursed.
Scarlet smiled and stretched her arms, that guy was racing towards the portal, a red one this. It was game over, the old deity had won another round.
She turned around to leave.
"Wait a minute, he just stopped." someone said.
It was as if a glass had just shattered loudly on the ground. She spun around with her eyes wide opens.
To her greatest disbelief, this guy had stopped, and his eyes were darting around furtively. It seemed as if he was having second thoughts.
"No, no, no, no.." she mumbled.
Her reaction was similar to that of that old deity.
"Chase him." he yelled to the gate keepers.
They had to make this little charade as real as possible. Standing around and watching a soul escape into another world with calm and amused looks on their faces was suspicious.
Nobody knew what was going to happen next, would the soul leap inside? Would the gate keepers actually have to catch him?
This was like the last five minutes of a game, intense, nerve wrecking and entertaining.
To everyone’s surprise, before the gate keepers who were abnormally slow could catch up, the soul changed directions and leaped into the green portal.
When he vanished, the portal stopped swirling, all of the portals as a matter of fact.
Everyone finally moved their bodies, as if they had been awakened from slumber.
"Damn it." Someone yelled.
"What was that?" another asked.
"Does anyone know why he stopped and changed to another portal?"
"Aah, another fool has been trapped. This should happen more often, it is thrilling to watch."
The fun was over, and everyone returned to what they were doing before it started.
Scarlet and Severus returned to the Blue star in stitches, her, laughing because this would surely drown out the image of her in pajamas on the forum and because it was great to see someone other than herself in this position.
Him, because it had simply been entertaining watching the old deity and the gate keepers act terribly.
"I told you that it would be fun. You had fun, right?" he asked her.
She nodded as she walked to the bathroom to take a bath.
"It was more than fun. To be honest if he was not tempted to take the leap I would have been terribly disappointed. I am not the only gullible grim reaper, this proves it."
"So why do you think he hesitated?"
She thought about Severus’s question and pursed her lips for a while. Why did he change his mind? she asked herself. It was hard for her to guess what that soul had been thinking in that moment.
"I couldn’t say." she replied.
"Maybe it was the color red." Severus mumbled.
"Yeah, maybe."
None of them knew what caused it truly but one thing was certain, everyone would ask the new grim reaper that question because they were all curious about it.
