Transmigrating to Modern Earth from the Future-Chapter 45: Moving on
Chapter 45: Moving on
"F*ck, what can we do? This stupid deer has just been lying there in the same spot where the hole disappeared for the last 3 days..."
Jake cursed and shouted as he came back from his scouting mission of the hole where Lumen had disappeared into.
It had been over 3 days since he was swallowed up by the hole and the group of three were barely clinging on to the idea that Lumen may be alive anymore.
It pained them to think that even if he is still alive somewhere down there, they wouldn’t even be able to reach him because the level 13 deer beast was still resting in the same location where he had fallen.
"Calm down Jake, let’s think this through shall we? We can only stay here for so long, there are barely any beasts in this area due to that high level deer marking it’s territory here. And let’s face it, Lumen is probably already dead by now, we have to come to terms with the reality that we will most likely never see him again and move on with our lives."
Will spoke so much that he nearly ran out of breath. But he still got his point across to Qu Quan and Jake.
"How about we give it one more day to see if that deer still lingers in the area! If the deer leaves, then we dig until our bodies ache and our hands start cracking. But if it is still there then we have no choice but to leave, deal?"
Qu Quan was the next to speak as she broke her silence with a resolute attitude, it seems that although she had just barely reached adulthood, this apocalyptic situation had forced her to mature early.
Her suggestion was accepted by both Will and Jake after they took some time to think things over, but they held little hope of ever finding Lumen again as if the deer had just sat there for 3 days straight without moving, there was little chance that it would suddenly change it’s mind and move by the next day.
Once a general consensus was reached, they set off to hunt once more to keep up the constant grind of levels, making sure to mark wherever they go so they don’t lose the location where Lumen went missing.
Soon, 24 hours passed with Qu Quan, Will and Jake all returning to their temporary campsite a little distance from where they last spotted the level 13 deer.
"Barely any beasts again yesterday too, damn there is just nothing in this area for us to kill is there. I had only just passed the experience threshold of level 6 with the three of us teaming against that level 9 wild boar. It’s truly annoying that he found nothing else though."
Jake vented his annoyance and anger at the lack of kills they had got the previous day as the group made their way towards the location where Lumen had disappeared.
"At least you got a level jake, me and Qu Quan are still stuck at level 5." Will attempted to lift Jake’s spirits a little bit, but it held no effect.
"Actually I also reached level 6 through that boar yesterday! It’s just you at level 5 now, Will." Qu Quan chimed in, making all of Will’s own spirits take a downfall upon realising he was falling behind.
Jake and Qu Quan snickered silently seeing Will like this, but their laughing stopped when they reached their destination.
They had hoped all along that it wouldn’t be the case, but just ahead of them in a small clearing lay the level 13 deer, still snoozing away in the only patch of sunlight.
"Well, I guess this is it." Will spoke softly in a saddened tone.
"I swear I’ll get this deer f*cker one day, just you watch me!" Jake murmered under his breath as he cursed the innocent beast quietly.
Qu Quan only nodded along with Jake, silently agreeing with his words of revenge.
The group soon left the area of the deer’s perception and soon got to work preparing something special.
The location they had chosen just happened to be the same location they had buried Shivi at. It didn’t take very long for them to finish up with their final gift to Lumen.
"It’s done, I’ve prepared the headstone for him." Jake spoke as he lifted quite a large looking slab of stone into the pre cleared and dug area.
"I’d like to say a few words for him before we depart." Will announced to them as he stood in front of Lumen’s new grave next to Shivi’s.
"We didn’t know them very long, but I like to think that a good friendship was brewing between the five of us. If this were back on Earth I’d have liked to share a beer with the both of you and chatted all day like buddies. But you were both ripped away from us before he could even get to know each other better. If there exists an afterlife in this wretched world, I hope to see you again one day. We will miss you, dear friends. "
Tears were dripping from Qu Quans eyes as Will and Jake both stood there silently as they used all of their willpower to hold back their tears from flowing.
It was only a little over 10 minutes later that the three of them left the two graves with the grave atmosphere affecting their moods greatly.
"Now we have 2 goals to strive for through our progression in this tutorial."
"I will not stop hunting, stop killing, until I reach a power great enough where I can kill that Michael son if a b*tch. Nor will I let that deer live." The three of them vowed somewhat of an oath with each other as they all promised to get revenge.
It was from this point on that many beasts had sleepless nights in the forest as they were under constant onslaught by a savage trio of a mage, a heavy warrior and an archer.
However unbeknownst to these three, their presumed dead friend was still very much alive and thriving...
