Transmigrating to Modern Earth from the Future-Chapter 50: Rewards
Chapter 50: Rewards
Lumen was at first confused when he looked into this new room, as it wasn’t like any of the other halls he had to work his way through before. This one looked completely normal with it’s dull wooden walls as well as it’s tiled floor.
The aesthetic was completely the opposite of the grand marble halls that spanned for vast distances in the other halls, as if this room wasn’t from the same creator of the other halls. The only thing that remained the same was the braziers hanging from the walls and ceiling lighting the place up.
Immediately, Lumen’s curiosity was invoked with this room as he took a closer look around the place, still standing in the hallway due to his previous experience with traps. Inside he saw bookshelves lining the back wall of the room, with the odd few books here and there.
The prospect of obtaining books and knowledge from a completely unknown world, especially a world like this one where magic and mana permeate society and civilisation as depicted on the murals he had been making note of through the hallway, excited Lumen greatly.
Unfortunately he couldn’t read the characters that lined the spines of the books due to having his skills locked by the system, including his [Akashic Languages], but as he would find in a few seconds, this restriction wouldn’t last long.
He found that when he took his first steps inside, the first thing he noticed was the influx of information from the system messages flashing across his retina reminding him of his achievements over the past few days as it calculated all of them in one go.
But he skipped past them for now and would return to them later on as he had something more important and long overdue to focus on.
His skills had also returned to his delight, and he didn’t hesitate in his first choice after finally regaining them back after so long of being without them.

"[Basic Inspect]"
He used his inspect skill as many times as his mana pool allowed on practically everything in the room as his mana was dried up in no time.
Most of the things he inspected were useless items with only their names displayed with nothing special about them, being completely normal items devoid of any system magic. All but 2 books were also in this category as they just displayed a description of their contents, most of them being historical entries about some civilisations in the Fantasia realm.
This information was very much welcome to Lumen though as he could get to know more about the Fantasia realm before he even stepped foot in the place, allowing him more preparation than the other inhabitants of the tutorial.
However the two books that differed from the other 30 or so practically made him jump with joy as he read through the titles and descriptions.
[My Book of Magic by Solizier Losten (Rare): A magic book written by a talented D tier mage of long extinct civilisation of the Fantasia Realm.
’Magic is the root of everything, it permeates everything in the universe from the largest celestial bodies down to the smallest subatomic particles. It is everywhere. In this book contains my teachings of the basic usage and understanding of magic, spanning over a thousand years of my life since I became a mage from the weakest F tier to my peak as a D tier.’]
[Water Bolt Spell Tome (Uncommon): A spell tome containing the Water Bolt skill. Grants the user the skill upon completion of the book and sufficient understanding of the skill has been achieved. The spell tome will disintegrate once the skill has been granted.]
One book gave Lumen the opportunity to enhance his knowledge of magic through the life experience of a magician called Solizier Losten, while the other book was very different in that it directly granted him a spell.
To others, the spell tome would undoubtedly be the better reward as every skill gained was an advantage in this hell hole of a tutorial, especially in places like the dungeon Lumen was in.
However Lumen knew better as he knew by now that there was more to the system and magic than meets the eye. He had already experienced the mysteries of magic when his understanding of it increased when he achieved his enlightenment in the fight with the Elite wolf.
He was starting to get the feeling that this system was proving over time that it was nothing like those video games where the user is granted a skill and the effects are entirely controlled by the system itself and each cast is the exact same every time.
Instead he got the feeling that this system was more like a quantified portrayal of a person’s worth in the universe. You had to work hard and achieve certain requirements to be able to gain skills. Each level up and skill added is ’Granted’ by the system, but it was more like they were earned and completely owned by the person themself rather than the system.
Half of his suspicions were already confirmed by the description of the Water Bolt spell tome, as it says ’sufficient understanding of the skill has been achieved’, clearly meaning that you had to have enough talent and affinity with the skill before you were even given the chance to add it to your arsenal.
But Lumen put his unconfirmed theories to the side for the foreseeable future as he doubted he would get any answers anytime soon, nor did he think he’d need any answers as he believed he would find them himself over time.
He refocused his attention onto the system messages that had been ignored ever since his skills had been disabled. It seemed that any notifications from the system were also blocked during this time.
[Discovered hidden treasure trial within the dungeon! Gained 3000 credits.]
[Congratulations! You have passed the first trial of the treasure trials and are one step closer to reaching the end and meeting your rewards.]
[Congratulations! You have passed the second trial of the treasure trials, the final and hardest challenge yet awaits you before you find the treasure.]
[Congratulations! You have passed the Final trial of the treasure trials, your rewards await you on the other end of the hallway!]
[You have entered the Room of Rewards, place your hand on the pedestal for your prize!]
Lumen read through the notifications and was surprised to find out that this place was actually keeping track of his trials. He hadn’t noticed due to the fact that his system messages were blocked for some reason along with his skills. It seemed a little counter intuitive in his opinion but there was no point in trying to understand the system’s logic.
Instead he was more surprised that the plethora of books in the room wasn’t even considered by the system as the prize for the treasure trials, and that he had yet to even claim the reward.
He didn’t hesitate in doing exactly what the system said and sure enough, he was met with a great surprise.
He placed his hand on the pedestal as instructed and immediately it started moving as a transformation started taking place within the pedestal.
Very shortly, in place of the pedestal stood a long pole over 2.5 metres long. When Lumen first saw it he knew that those treacherous trials were worth it.
[Arcane spear (Epic): A spear crafted by a great B tier smith and passed down from generation to generation within his family until it was lost in a great war.
When using this spear, damage is increased by 50% with an additional 50% being stacked if imbued with a magic reinforcement skill. When mana is imbued into the spear, immaterial spears crafted from magic will be summoned and can be launched as projectiles within a 50 metre radius towards a target. Damage is proportional to the amount of mana imbued.]
’I can finally upgrade my sh*tty tutorial spear!’
This new spear was exactly what Lumen needed as his tutorial spear was basically on it’s last legs as it could barely keep up with his fights as most of the time he would need to use his magic spells to deal the killing blows.
This had changed recently with the addition of his Fire infusion skill, but his tutorial spear could barely handle the stress of the skill as well as the thick skins of his enemies. The durability had long reached a point he very much wasn’t happy about.
He checked his spear’s description for the final time as although it was his weakest link at his level, it had followed him for the last 3 weeks he had been in the tutorial and it had saved his life many times.
[Tutorial Spear (Common): A basic wooden spear crafted from a fine oak tree with a fitted coarse iron tip. +5% damage when using this spear.
Durability: 23/100]
’It’s been a long run, but you are useless now.’
He threw the spear into an empty slot in his inventory, likely to never be used again or thrown away at some point when he needed the space in his inventory freed up.
Once Lumen was done inspecting his new spear and books, he came to the realisation that he might have to go back through the trials again to get back to the original cave, which he very much didn’t like the idea of, especially that terrifying lake and the black exploding spikes.
