Chapter 52: Might of the Arcane Spear

’It’s time to test this bad boy out!’ He laughed out loud as he immediately performed a throwing motion with his spear.

These level 12 wolves proved themselves anything but intelligent as they ran straight at Lumen with their teeth baring, drool hanging from their mouths.

They truly lived up to their name of ’Rabid’ wolves as they acted like the mindless beasts they were, acting off of pure aggression and instinct.

Having his spear prepared he performed a powerful throw that produced a loud whirring sound as the glowing blue spear was loosed with great speed and power as it pierced through the air and hit a wolf right in the neck.

Only the wolf wasn’t struck by Lumen’s spear, it was struck by a pure spear made up of mana thanks to the ability of his Arcane spear to produce a spear made of magic which can be thrown in it’s stead.

Lumen stood there, spear still in his hand as he assessed the power of the attack he had just delivered.

’This is insane! That wolf was instantly killed by such a basic attack from this epic spear!’ Lumen was visibly shocked at the instant kill as before he had the Arcane spear, the only way he could instantly kill a level 12 wolf would be to use his most powerful attack, Fire bolt!

He now understood that he had underestimated the power of equipment in this new system governed world. His spear had clearly just demonstrated to him how important having high level and rarity equipment was as it’s immaterial spear attack caused as much damage to a single target as his most powerful spell does.

Momentarily stumbling, the wolf, and the rest of the pack were taken by surprise by his attack. None of them had the chance to defend or even react before his spear had embedded itself in the first wolf. This same scenario continued as his spear was clearly too fast for the wolves to even react in time as he had already launched another spear with the usual throwing motion before it struck one of them, followed by another and then another.

Lumen threw his spears faster and more accurately than he could ever manage before as his last mana spear impaled a wolf before disappearing into blue light particles. Deep pools of blood had converged under every wolf that was struck as every spear had managed to hit a major vital point, with Lumen happy to keep turning them into swiss cheese as they kept approaching him.

Only two of the remaining six had managed to come within reach of him as he decided to conserve some mana and test the efficiency of his spear in normal combat, with Lumen successfully hitting one of them on one of it’s hind legs, nearly severing it with that one attack. The second wolf wasn’t as lucky and was struck in the eye and was lying on the ground spasming, waiting to bleed out.

The final wolf had managed to come enough to bite him now thanks to him switching his attention to finishing off the other one. It was dropping buckets of blood from it’s nearly severed leg. The excitement and anticipation for battle had long died down in Lumen as he had achieved his purpose, so he didn’t waste any time with this last wolf and directly finished it off by stabbing it in the head.

In barely 30 seconds, all six wolves were dead before they could even get an attack in on Lumen, each of them falling to the ground limp, falling prey to his deadly spear.

With a total of six kills from this one battle, he had obtained quite a haul of experience, taking him past the halfway point to level 14.

’Over half a level’s worth of experience gained from a fight that barely lasted half a minute... I can only imagine what level I would be by the time I leave this dungeon!’

With his rapid gains of experience and only expending a little over half his mana in that battle, he wasn’t even close to done hunting.

Lumen lowered his spear as he felt his mana slowly start filling back up again.

His levelling speed hadn’t decreased as over the past 5 hours he had managed to find another 2 packs of wolves, the first being made up of a range of levels between 11-14 and had about 7 wolves in total. This took him past the threshold of level 14 and increased his power even more.

The second pack was smaller at only three wolves, but each one of them stood tall at level 16 and were starting to become physically larger than the lower levelled wolves he had hunted beforehand.

These three wolves alone had given him the experience he needed to level up to level 15.

’I guess it’s time to take a break now.’ After 5 hours of hunting Lumen had started to get a little tired.

Combined with the fact that no matter how hard he searched and explored, he couldn’t spot even a single other wolf, he decided to settle down for the night.

He sensed that his levelling speed would calm down over the next few days due to the lack of wolves. It seemed that over his week long absence from the main dungeon, those three packs of wolves had decided to move in, and now that he had cleared them, he would have to go even deeper into the dungeon to find some more to hunt.
