[Quest Received: Eradicate the Nest of Plagueclaw Vermin.]

[Quest Description: The people of Veridia have been pestered by the scavenging and thievery of a type of weak beast called Plagueclaw Vermin, a rat-like beast that preys on weak farm animals and children. These beasts are omnivorous and will eat whatever they can get their hands on, hence why the residents of Veridia are so adamant to exterminate their nest and be rid of them for good.

These vermin are led by a D tier queen so caution is advised, at least 1 D tier member of the team is recommended before accepting this mission.]

[Quest objective: Explore the nearby cave systems in search of the nest of these Plagueclaw Vermin, and clear out every last Plagueclaw you come across before none are left standing.]

[Quest Rewards: Reputation within Veridia, 50 gold, experience]

The city of Veridia bustled with activity as Lumen made his way through its crowded streets. The city had a distinct atmosphere, a blend of bustling commerce and a sense of community. It was a stark contrast to the remote village he had encountered earlier on his journey. The buildings were tall and made of a mix of stone and wood, their architecture a testament to the city’s endurance in the face of challenges.

As he walked through the city, Lumen couldn’t help but admire the resilience of its inhabitants. The people of Veridia had carved out a life in the midst of the fantastical dangers that lurked in the surrounding forests and caves. They went about their daily tasks with purpose, and a sense of unity seemed to permeate the air.

Lumen continued to navigate the city, his eyes scanning the bustling streets. He knew he had a task at hand, a quest that had brought him to Veridia. The quest’s description had piqued his interest—the eradication of Plagueclaw Vermin.

These rat-like creatures were a menace to the city, preying on livestock, stealing food, and even posing a threat to children. The residents of Veridia had sought help in exterminating these vermin, and Lumen was more than willing to lend his strength to their cause.

His quest objective was clear: explore the nearby cave systems in search of the Plagueclaw Vermin nest and eliminate every last one of them. However, the quest had also issued a warning. These vermin were led by a D tier queen, making the task more challenging. The quest recommended having at least one D tier member in the team, but Lumen, confident in his abilities, had decided to embark on this mission alone.

As he made inquiries about the location of the Plagueclaw Vermin nest, Lumen was directed to a cluster of caves on the outskirts of the city. It seemed that these caves were the source of the vermin infestation, and it was there that he would begin his hunt.

With his destination in mind, Lumen left the bustling streets of Veridia and headed toward the cave entrance. The further he ventured from the city, the quieter it became. The sounds of commerce and conversation faded into the background, replaced by the distant chirping of crickets and the rustling of leaves.

The cave entrance loomed before him, a dark maw in the side of a rocky hill. Lumen took a deep breath, his senses alert. He knew that danger awaited him in the depths of the cave, but he was prepared to face it head-on.

With a flicker of his hand, Lumen conjured a small flame at his fingertips, casting a warm glow that illuminated the cave’s entrance. He stepped inside, the uneven stone floor echoing with each step. The air grew cooler and more humid as he delved deeper into the darkness.

As he moved deeper into the cave, Lumen noticed signs of the Plagueclaw Vermin’s presence. Claw marks marred the cave walls, and small bones littered the ground. The vermin had made this place their home, and it was clear that they were not far away.

The cave system was a labyrinth of twisting passages and narrow tunnels, and Lumen navigated it with caution. He could hear faint skittering noises in the distance, the telltale signs of the vermin’s approach.

The deeper he went, the more numerous the vermin became. They scurried along the cave floor and clung to the walls, their beady eyes glinting in the torchlight. Lumen drew his spear, ready to confront the creatures.

The first encounter was swift and brutal. A group of Plagueclaw Vermin lunged at him, their sharp claws extended. Lumen’s spear moved with precision, striking down the creatures with deadly accuracy. Their bodies fell to the ground, lifeless.

Lumen continued to press forward, his spear becoming an extension of himself. He moved with fluidity and grace, dispatching the vermin one by one. They came at him in waves, but he held his ground, determined to fulfil his quest.

As he ventured deeper into the cave system, Lumen began to sense a change in the atmosphere. The air grew thick with tension, and the skittering of the vermin became more frenzied. He knew he was getting closer to the heart of their nest.

Finally, he arrived in a cavernous chamber, its walls covered in a grotesque tapestry of webs and nests. At the centre of the chamber stood the queen of the Plagueclaw Vermin—a massive, grotesque creature with gnarled claws and a maw filled with jagged teeth.

The queen let out a piercing screech, and the chamber erupted into chaos as vermin swarmed from all directions. Lumen stood his ground, his spear poised for battle.

The battle that ensued was fierce and unrelenting. Lumen fought with all his might, his spear cutting through the vermin with precision. But the queen was a formidable opponent, her strength and resilience far surpassing that of her underlings.

As the battle raged on, Lumen’s strength began to wane. The queen’s attacks were relentless, and her minions showed no signs of letting up. It was a battle of attrition, and Lumen knew that he needed to find a way to turn the tide.
