"You, what are you talking about, Ah Yan?" Second Aunt Lei raised her head, and her lips were now curled up in a bitter smile. "You know that your grandmother is just a paper tiger; she says some hurtful words, but she never means any harm. How could this young woman take your grandmother's words seriously?"

Lei Yan's lips twitched when she heard the shameless words of Second Aunt Lei. Did she think that Lei Yan did not know what kind of person her grandmother was? She was the kind of person who could scold a statue and make its ears bleed!

Seeing that Lei Yan was not saying anything, Second Aunt Lei turned to look at Father Lei and continued to speak to him, "You see this, brother-in-law. This woman has frozen mother's tongue to her roof, and yet Ah Qian doesn't say a word."

She pushed Old Madam Lei in front of Father Lei and showed him what Bai Meiyue had done.

"This…" Father Lei turned to look at Bai Meiyue and Lei Qian. He had no idea what to say to Bai Meiyue; after all, this woman was chosen by his son, and he didn't want to say anything to her lest he offend her.

If Bai Meiyue got angry with them, what would happen to his son then? Wouldn't his son die as a single man?

So, he could only turn to Lei Qian and ask, "What's going on, Ah Qian?"

When Second Aunt Lei saw that even Father Lei didn't say anything to Bai Meiyue, even though she had hurt Old Madam Lei like this, her eyes flashed. She was now really curious about who this woman was who was being treated with so much care and reverence by Lei Qian and the rest of his family.

"I will go inside with you," Bai Meiyue said to Shen Zhen. "Bring me some sanitised clothing."

Shen Zhen turned to look at Bai Meiyue and recalled her newly awakened skills, and her eyes brightened. "Ah, how could I forget? You have awakened a new set of heavenly medical skills."

As soon as she finished speaking, everyone turned to look at Bai Meiyue. Lei Qian, who was about to speak, whipped his head and turned to look at Bai Meiyue. "You–awakened new skills?"

"That's right," Shen Zhen was the one who answered. She turned to look at Lei Qian and said to him in a polite voice, "A few days ago, Miss Bai awakened some medical skills. If she says that she can save your grandfather, then I am afraid that no one will be able to save him." Shen Zhen then turned to look at the Lei family and added, "Not even an army doctor can help him unless Miss Bai makes a move."

Second Aunt Lei stiffened while Le Wu's eyes flashed with resentment. How come such a good woman was by Lei Qian's side? She should be his!

Lei Wu was rather upset when he saw Bai Meiyue's eyes turn soft when she turned to look at Lei Qian. How he wished she were looking at him with that soft look in her eyes!

"Don't worry," Bai Meiyue told Lei Qian. "Your grandfather's injuries are not as severe; as long as we can stop the bleeding and help him replenish the blood, he will be fine."

When Lei Qian heard Bai Meiyue's words, he heaved a sigh of relief. He reached out and held Bai Meiyue's hands in his before saying to her, "Do anything you want to save him. As long as you are willing to save him, our entire family will owe you a great favour."

"There is no need to say such words." Bai Meiyue pulled her hands out of his grasp and headed inside the side room to wash and clean herself. "This is something that I need to do."

Once Bai Meiyue left, Lei Qian sat down on the chair. All the energy and courage that he had shown outside finally left him; now he was only left with worry. He hoped that his grandfather would be able to pull out of this tragic condition.

"You—how could you leave the life and death of your grandfather in the hands of that woman? What if she makes a mistake!?" Old Madam Lei, whose tongue was no longer stuck to the roof of her mouth, couldn't help but speak in anger.

"I will be taking the responsibility if something goes wrong," Lei Qian gritted his teeth and snapped.

This was what Old Madam Lei was waiting for. She heaved a sigh of relief and said, "This is what you said! If something happens to your grandfather, then you will have to take care of me and the second branch for your entire life! You cannot pull away from this responsibility even if you want to!"

"Mother." Father Lei was stunned when he heard the words of his mother. He thought that she was genuinely worried about his father, but she was only worried about being kicked out by Lei Qian; this was why she was trying so hard.

"What? What? You want to back out now? I am telling you that it is impossible!" Old Madam Lei didn't think that there was anything wrong with what she was doing. Her elder son was capable, and his children were just as capable. But her second son was not! So, how could she leave her second son? As the stronger one, her elder son needed to take care of her second son and his children.

It was only right! Since the old times, the capable ones have taken care of those who were weak.

When Mother Lei saw the actions of her mother-in-law, her eyes gleamed with an annoyed look. She knew that this old woman was scheming.

Now she could only hope that her father-in-law would get better soon. If not, these four beasts would eat the flesh and drink the blood of her son!
