Chapter 211: Crickets as Usual
Jules’ pov
Xander visibly stiffened just as the call connected. ƒгeewёbnovel.com
"Hello, Mr. Woods. This is Blaze." Blaze breathed into the phone and the expression on Xander’s face shifted from scowl to fear then stark anger.
"You see, Mr. Woods... I’m a very easy wolf, and my friend Alexander... he’s been stepping out of line and stepping on my toes these past few days. Can you please talk to him for me?" Once he was done, I stared in disbelief as Blaze grinned darkly, eyes gleaming as he held the phone out to Xander who clearly wished he could murder Blaze as he reluctantly accepted it.
Xander didn’t say a thing, but he didn’t need to, the multiple expressions across his face said it all. He was being reprimanded right before my eyes, to my complete disbelief.
I was beyond shocked as I watched Xander’s grip on Blaze’s phone get so tight, I feared that it might get a crack.
After a few minutes, Xander wordlessly handed the phone back to Blaze, he was scowling so hard that I feared the expression would stick forever.
"Of course, Mr. Woods. Alexander behaves most of the time, and no, I didn’t take it to heart."
"I understand that you’re sorry. And no, I’m not gonna tell my father about this. It’s the usual disagreement between friends after all." Blaze drawled into the phone, eyes never leaving Xander’s.
Once the call ended, Xander gritted his teeth. "I’m not your friend, you bastard." He growled out but Blaze only laughed for a few seconds, and then his face went blank as he spoke.
"I always tell you that I don’t like exchanging words or blows with you, I consider it a waste of time. We both know your father is gonna punish you after that call, because we both know he wants to remain in my father’s good books at all cost, and he’s ready to do anything for that, including kissing my feet. This is a warning, Xander. I’m not gonna put my hands on you again, but if you come around my mate again, I’d ask your father to come punish you in my presence, and you know he’s gonna do that."
My mouth was agape once he was done, and I watched Xander grit his teeth once again.
"Fuck you." He growled and Blaze snorted.
"Even though your father actually hates my father and I, he keeps kissing up to us. I don’t care about that, so far he keeps you in line. Think about how humiliating this is for you today, the next time you breathe around my mate, I’d call your father and have him berate you in the presence of everyone."
Xander didn’t say anything, he just angrily stormed out of the restroom after a few moments and I winced as the door connected loudly as it slammed close. The angry, burnt scent of lycan and alpha still lingered in the air as Blaze cupped my face and stroked my cheek, I instantly leaned into his touch while silently wondering if Xander really wasn’t gonna come after me anymore, especially now that he knows that I have a secret that Kai is holding above my head.
Movements from the side of my face caught my eyes just as Blaze turned his head, his eyes landing on Kai who was present throughout that exchange between Blaze and Xander.
Blaze tilted his head sideways, and then he looked Kai up and down. I eyed the two of them wearily, just as Blaze spoke.
"Hello, Cousin."
Kai didn’t react, but I noticed his hands flexing at his sides.
"How have you been? It’s been ages." Blaze continued and Kai cleared his throat while shoving his hands into his pockets.
"Been as great as ever." Kai finally responded and Blaze chuckled, tilting his head sideways again.
"Oh, yeah? And havw you gotten my father to name you the heir to his clan?" He drawled through a laugh and I noticed Kai’s jaw clench up before he cleared his throat again.
"Why are we randomly talking about our family business?" Kai asked and Blaze snorted.
"You’re right, Cousin. Let’s not talk about how you’re never gonna get named his heir no matter how much you try to please and impress him. Rather, let’s talk about why you’re always around my mate. Care to give me a sound explanation for that?"
My breath stumbled in my chest as I watched Kai puffed out a long breath. He shifted his weight around and I could tell that he was just trying to put on an air of indifference right now.
"I- I don’t know what you’re talking about..." Kai was speaking but trailed when Blaze let out a low growl, face set in a dark scowl.
"You know he belonged to me from the onset, but of course you still went after him, because you can’t live life without trying to get your filthy hands on what belongs to me." He snarled and Kai exhaled slowly, taking a small step backwards.
"I saw him first." Kai explained slowly and Blaze let out a scoff of disbelief.
"So? Who cares? I claimed him already, and I already gave him my mark." Blaze responded calmly, continuing before Kai could say anything else.
"You’ll do well to stay away from him henceforth. I ignored you this whole time because not only are you irrelevant, you’re also getting a little audacious. Now that I’m mated to him, if you come around him again, I’m not gonna be responsible for what would happen to you." It was a clear warning, and he tugged me closer as he spoke.
Kai squared his jaw but remained silent.
"I know you’re working with my father, I know that’s why you got to know when he was in danger a handful of times. Don’t get involved in something you’re gonna end up regretting, and keep your supposed protection to yourself that you keep offering to my mate, he doesn’t want or need it. Can you even protect yourself? And yet, you’re always going on about protection to my mate? Now, that’s definitely hilarious."
"As I believe, he already told you he doesn’t like you after you confessed to him. But are we surprised? No one ever likes you, this is a normal occurrence in your life. Isn’t that right? It’s why even though I was absent throughout our childhood, and you were always around my father, I’m still his heir even after everything. No one likes you, and you’ll always be a second choice."
Kai swallowed emptily and cleared his throat after Blaze was done, and when he tried stepping around Blaze, Blaze stretched a hand out and prevented him from walking past.
"You aren’t gonna say anything? I heard you’re always quick to tell everyone of how deranged I am. You always have a lot to say behind my back. How about you say those things to my face now?" Blaze continued but Kai still remained silent, causing Blaze to crackle and snort at the same time.
"As expected, it’s always crickets in my presence, but loud as fuck in my absence." Blaze placed his hand on Kai’s shoulder as he continued.
"I actually don’t have anything against you, cousin. You’re too irrelevant to even be considered my enemy. Just, be sure to stay away from my mate on moving forward. That’s all."
