Disaster Apocalypse: Farming, Family, and My Hidden Secret Space-Chapter 64. Going to a restaurant
Chapter 64: 64. Going to a restaurant
The waiter was initially quite happy, thinking that this table of guests didn’t look particularly wealthy but were quite willing to spend on food. While happily reporting the menu to the kitchen, he was unexpectedly pulled aside by one of them, insisting on removing dishes, especially the expensive meat ones. He had no choice but to look at Hua Chengtian, as he was clearly the one hosting the meal.
"Just go ahead, arrange as I said," Hua Chengtian waved his hand at the waiter.
"Alright, sir, please wait a moment," the waiter said happily again and quickly left.
"Brother Chengtian, this... this is too extravagant. How much will it cost?"
The two men winced with pain, though they indeed wanted to eat too. However, it depended on whom they were with; they grew up together and were as close as brothers. How could they let their own family be taken advantage of? So much food really made them feel sorry for Brother Chengtian’s expense.
"Just eat if I let you eat," Hua Chengtian glared with tiger-like eyes, giving them a deliberate rude look.
Just as expected, hearing this, the two didn’t dare mention it again, but what they said made Hua Chengtian feel warm inside. They were truly brothers.
The food was served quickly, and it wasn’t long before everything was brought to the table.
He handed the wine brought by the waiter directly to Hua Qiang and Meng Cai, "I’m injured, so I won’t join you in drinking."
"How could we accept it?" Meng Cai said, smacking his lips while looking at the wine pot, his eyes practically lighting up.
"If you’re embarrassed, then don’t drink," Hua Chengtian said amusingly, pretending to take the wine pot back, but Hua Qiang and Meng Cai hastily placed it on their side.
"Heh heh, since Brother Chengtian is treating us to wine, we have to drink it, embarrassment aside."
"You guys," he laughed and scolded, then gave his daughter and wife each a piece of meat before he started eating.
Throughout the meal, Hua Jin hardly helped herself to any dishes, as her bowl was constantly full, and she was too busy finishing it to lift her head.
The restaurant wasn’t big, but the taste was considered decent. At least, it was much better than what her mother and grandmother cooked. Of course, it couldn’t compare to what she had had in the past.
After all, with local constraints in both conditions and ingredients, it would naturally impact the flavor of the food. Reaching this level of taste, Hua Jin thought that the chef’s skill was already quite good.
Sigh! She couldn’t dwell on it, as thinking about it only made her hungrier.
Especially when she thought of her favorite spicy crayfish, she wondered if she would ever have the chance to eat it in this world.
Though they ordered a lot, with three big men, the food was still quickly devoured, even the sauce of the braised pork was soaked up with buns by Hua Qiang and Meng Cai.
In their words, since they spent the money, they had to eat it all to avoid wastage.
Watching them made Hua Jin struggle to hold back her laughter. Her two uncles were really cute, but it also reflected the hardships of life for poor people in this era, didn’t it?
One had to admit, heaven treated her fairly well, at least she was not reborn into a penniless family where they couldn’t even afford food.
Thinking this way, Hua Jin was quite content.
When paying, the two men couldn’t help but wince again. Touching their somewhat stuffed bellies, they felt guilty and thought if they had known, they would’ve stopped Brother Chengtian earlier.
Nearly a tael of silver, although it included the two dishes they packed to take away, was still extremely expensive.
A tael of silver could fund many grand banquets in the countryside. Pubs like this really weren’t suitable for poor families! The food was good, but it was so damn expensive.
Afterwards, the group left the tavern and was stopped again when they passed a distillery. Soon, a few more jars of wine were added to the ox cart.
"Brother Chengtian, are we really going to live like this?"
This was too extravagant. Luckily, Sister-in-law had a strong tolerance; it made them both worried and distressed.
Never before did they feel that Brother Chengtian was this spendthrift!
Hua Chengtian gave them a sidelong glance, "Even if you don’t, I have to live. Did you forget that I said earlier about treating the brothers to drinks?"
They really had forgotten. Hua Qiang and Meng Cai exchanged a glance and then remembered, awkwardly laughing.
Alright, they shouldn’t worry unnecessarily. Brother Chengtian was always resourceful, and his life was much better than theirs. How could he not know how to live? It was just a joke.
After buying the wine, the ox cart went straight out of town.
With Hua Qiang and Meng Cai both being talkative and not dull, they talked and laughed along the way, making the time pass quickly. Soon, they were back in Hua Village.
After dropping off the brothers at home, they parted ways at the invitation of Old Man Hua and his wife.
They weren’t insensitive; they knew that returning from seeing a doctor meant the family surely had a lot to discuss.
...
"Son, are you really okay?"
The old lady Hua couldn’t help but ask again; she wouldn’t be at ease without triple assurance.
Old Man Hua also looked at his son with concern. Women might not understand, but he knew what his son faced against such a huge wild boar.
He even felt his son was hiding something.
He taught the boy his skills, but even in his youth, when faced with such a big wild boar, he would not dare confront it, only run. Sure, the younger generation might surpass the older, but he knew his own child’s capabilities.
Old Man Hua squinted his eyes as he looked at his son.
"It’s nothing, really," Hua Chengtian comforted, holding his mother’s hand. "Look, I can jump and run, and even brought the wild boar home myself. What could be wrong? Don’t worry, I’ve taken the medicine prescribed by the physician, and I’ll be fine after a few doses. Don’t worry, alright!"
The last sentence was said in a tone as if coaxing Hua Jin.
Speaking to her in this manner seemed to show he was indeed alright. The old lady Hua, finally at ease, couldn’t resist giving him a light tap.
It was time to settle scores after the fact.
This troublesome son almost scared her to death today.
Before she could even start reprimanding, she heard a "hiss" from Hua Chengtian, baring his teeth in an expression of pain.
Old Lady Hua: "..."
She knew she didn’t hit hard but couldn’t help but fall for this act. Her troublesome son really knew how to wrap her, his mother, around his finger.
"You..."
Looking at her son helplessly.
"Mom, it really hurts, see..." Hua Chengtian said, rolling up his sleeve to reveal a large bruise on his arm. The old lady Hua’s eyes instantly turned red.
"Mom, don’t cry... I’m really alright now," Hua Chengtian regretted it a bit, wishing he hadn’t rolled up his sleeve. He merely didn’t want his mom to think he was lying.
"Alright now, you think your mom is a three-year-old!" She wiped away her tears, giving her son a stern look, then gently pulled down his sleeve.
"No way, you’re the strongest in the family, Mom," Hua Chengtian coaxed.
Since marrying and having a daughter, Hua Chengtian had gotten better and better at consoling people.
"Stop with your smooth talk. I’m not looking at this troublesome thing anymore; I’ll go brew your medicine," the old lady said, feigning annoyance as she squinted affectionately at her son, gathered the herbs, and left the room. Watching this, Qi Shi hurried to follow her mother-in-law.
Seeing his father breathe a sigh of relief, Hua Jin sat nearby, laughing mischievously with Xiao Si by her side.
It was rare for the little one not to run around wildly, which showed that the morning’s incident had really scared him. Hua Jin looked at her brother fondly, considering giving him something nice for comfort later.
Having just calmed his mother down, Hua Chengtian sighed in relief, only to feel a headache again when he met his father’s inquisitive gaze.
His mother was easy to reassure, but not his father.
