HDXD: Omni Harem System-Chapter 57: The Old Dirt Road

For a moment, neither Kiera nor Nyla said a word.

Adam’s offer hung in the air between them, and to be honest, it was almost surreal.

He had just casually invited them to come and stay with him...two stray nekowolves into his home.

Now, this would have been good...great even, if it wasn’t for the fact that his home is the home base of the Shinso Family, one of the Thirteen Great Monster families.

It sounded too good to be true.

Kiera narrowed her golden eyes, skepticism clear on her face.

"Ummm... not to sound ungrateful, but you make it sound so simple, Adam. Do you really think bringing us into your home would be that easy? Your family isn’t exactly known for welcoming outsiders... your family head... Minerva is infamous for beating people half to death that want to join."

Adam, still effortlessly soaring above them, flashed a confident grin as he responded.

"You’re overthinking it... Yeah, Minerva can be terrifying at times, but she’s not all bad. Kinda."

Adam said flatly, causing the twins to sweat, as that was no reassurance at all.

But he continued to speak, as he said, while scratching his head.

"Honestly, it depends on who you are, how you approach her, and, well... if you have alcohol. But that’s beside the point. She is not gonna deny you two a place to stay, knowing your situation. I mean, the mansion’s huge...we’ve got, like, eighty rooms on the second floor alone."

Said Adam, but just thinking about it, a thought crossed his mind.

’Then again... that mansion isn’t exactly normal... Minerva is a master of Space and Time magic, so it is a given.’

From the outside, it looked big, but on the inside? It was way bigger than it had any right to be.

Hell, at this moment, Adam began to recall something White had once told him.

As the flashback was fresh in his mind.

"I fear no man... but that thing? That thing... that scares me."

Rakasha’s voice had been dead serious, her usual confidence nowhere to be found.

"She is not human...hell, she is not even just a monster the way she acts towards me. She is fucking abomination, a cruel bitch. One time, I snuck out at night to grab something to eat... Thought I was slick... But Minerva... she found out."

Her expression had darkened then, as she recalled all the bad things Minerva did to her.

"She trapped me in an eternal cycle of humiliation and suffering just to teach me a lesson. Do you have any idea how fucked up someone who call you family has to be, just to create a personal universe that exist just for torment her enemies... bending time and space to her will. And she left me there for years to live out my worse fears... ahh, I remember I went so hungry, I had to eat my own flesh, or I would have gone mad with hunger."

"She is a demon, a monster, an abomination... she is one of Cthulhu’s greatest soldiers, I tell yah."

White said, shuddering just re-telling the story to Adam.

A dumbfounded expression came over Adam’s face at that moment, as he said to himself.

’Yeah... Minerva was definitely "kinda," nice.’

But that aside, he made sure to get this message across, saying.

"But that’s beside the point... If you two want, you can come back with me. I could use some maids, and at the very least, that would put you on the payroll. Minerva would then see you as staff rather than intruders, so she wouldn’t mess with you. Not that I think she would anyway."

Said Adam.

Then he continued.

"Yeah, my big sis is scary, but a lot of that fear comes from the delusions of the weak, you know? I’m not saying she isn’t extra, but she is not as heartless as everyone makes her out to be."

The twins stay silent for a bit but then look at each other as if agreeing on something together.

It was at that moment that Keira answered for the both of them, saying as such.

"Well, if our village is truly gone, we will accept this generous offer, Lord Adam."

But it was Nyla who stepped in, asking, as if this was the most important question in the world, as if everything else was secondary.

"By the way... Adam, do guys got a bath the size of a pool at the very least?!"

Adam just smiled at this and replied back, saying.

"Bigger."

"Whaaaat?! No way, that’s sick!"

Nyla’s tail wagged eagerly.

"Kiera, why the hell are you acting all fancy about this?! This is the best offer we’ve had in, like, ever!"

Kiera sighed dramatically at her sister’s words, and then she replied saying.

"Unlike you, dear sister, I do not simply leap at every opportunity like a hungry dog... ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

"Oh, shut up, you totally would have said yes either way... you’re just trying to save face using our situation as a good excuse to go with him."

Nyla teased.

Kiera didn’t deny it.

Instead, she flicked her ear and changed the topic.

"We’re approaching the old dirt road."

At these words, Adam glanced down.

Sure enough, the forest was thinning out, revealing a worn, dusty path stretching ahead, and began to speak, saying as such.

"Ohhh, so this was the road on the map Minerva gave me before it got destroyed."

He commented, catch the attention of the twins, he began speak up saying.

"Yeah, this is the old dirt road that leads travellers to our village."

Said Keira, as she continued speaking.

"But it is also a traversable route between Minerva Village and Ultima Village. It’s a few hundred kilometers long from there to here, but before we reach home, we have to cross Nephari Bridge."

"A bridge in the middle of a monster-infested forest ha... not going to lie, that is weird as well."

"It is... but the bridge is kind of an important structure to our village history."

Said Nyla, who grabbed Adam’s attention at that moment as he asked.

"How so?!"
