HDXD: Omni Harem System-Chapter 58: Nephari Bridge
Chapter 58: Nephari Bridge
Adam’s curiosity was piqued at Nyla’s words.
"How so?"
He asked, genuinely wanting to understand the significance of the bridge they were approaching.
Kiera, with her usual grace, was the one to answer.
"Because it wasn’t built just for being just a large bridge, it was built to honor the memory of our great-grandmother, Nephari Inazuma."
She explained, her voice filled with pride just by saying that name.
Nyla then said, following up on Keria’s explanation.
"Mhm... if it weren’t for her, the clan would’ve been wiped out back then and probably again by now. About two hundred years ago, right here, Nephari went up against a powerful Type-3 Superficial named Yessentha the Blood Moon. This place used to be a village before it was reduced to rubble. But anyway, our great-grandmother fought that monster for three days and four nights...and between the two of them, they were tearing everything apart in their path."
"And this."
She gestured at the land in front of them.
"...is what was left behind."
Adam blinked in disbelief at the stories, although it was even shocking to hear that one person alone can take on a type 3, given how powerful those things are.
"T-T...Three days?"
Nyla nodded, her eyes steely.
"Yap... they basically scared the land, change the enviroment, and affect the eco-system."
Adam stared at her, still processing their story.
At this moment, they were close to the bridge, but it was very long, so long, in fact, he couldn’t see the other side due to how thick the mist was.
But he did see the large chasm it stretched across, which was even larger than the bridge itself.
"You mean... this whole chasm? This was the aftermath of their fight?"
"Pretty much, yea... or great-grandmother was said to be destructive as hell and does not know the meaning of holding back."
Nyla confirmed.
Then continued.
"The earth was torn apart by the sheer force of her power. What you’re seeing now? It’s a permanent wound on the Monster world when she uses her ultimate move. From what we know, this chasm stretches five miles wide and runs a staggering 918.94 million miles from east to west, plunging down 2,917,482 miles deep."
"And if you head east, you’ll eventually reach the Dragon Lords’ Domain. Head west, though, and you’ll pass through countless villages, ancient ruins, and even the Vampire King’s Domain, along with the Mongrel Temples."
At these words, Adam let out a low whistle, just hearing those unreal numbers.
"Damn! That is some serious firepower... Hmmm, if your clan has someone that strong, where is she now?"
"Ohhh, she is dead."
Answered Nyla.
"Dead?!... A monster of that level... who the hell killed her?"
Keira was the one to answer that.
"She died during that same fight. She won, but right after succumbed to her own injuries on the very land she fought to protect...she died standing."
"Damn, I know monsters, live a very long time... but you guys seem to be prone to death."
Said Adam, and Nyla replied back to that.
"Well... Heheheh... Nekowolves, have the lifespan of a Nekomata. We can easily live for about 20,000 years before we succumb to old age. But most nekomata in our clan have ever lived that long; we always die in battle... but I guess with the Bloom around, we will meet our end to that plague, but like roaches, we strive regardless."
Then Kiera also added.
"But we are not ones to forget our greatest warriors."
"Our grandmother, Aurora Inazuma, built this bridge to honor her mother’s death and victory and pass on that great story, which is our most proud historical epic we have in our clan archive. It’s been here for 189 years."
Adam looked at the bridge, then back at the chasm.
As he watches on, he can’t help but wonder to himself.
’I wonder how long it will take me to even reach that kind of power if I keep training and gain more lore abilities as I go along.’
Adam said to himself.
His first major goal was to one day surpass all five of his big sisters.
And he was pretty sure that all of them were stronger than Nephari herself.
But that aside, they were finally approaching the bridge, and seeing it this close made Adam’s breath sink back into his throat.
Before him stretched a massive chasm, its jagged edges running out of sight. The land seemed torn apart, as if two continents had split here. The edges were weirdly even, as if cut in a perfect line by something sharp and large.
Looking at it close, it was hard to believe that such destruction could come from anything natural.
But what really caught Adam’s attention was what lay at the bottom.
A vast, seemingly endless pit of molten fire, it flowed westwards as if coming from the east, but it wasn’t the usual orange-red lava he was used to seeing.
Instead, this massive river of lava was purple in color, glowing with an eerie, unnatural light that pulsed across the rocky walls, casting strange shadows. The magma flowed smoothly and also very fast, and given how deep this place was, according to the twins, then without a doubt, this was a river of esoteric lava that was millions of miles deep.
But that Chasm aside, his eyes soon fall on the very bridge itself, a structure built to honor the memories of Nephari Inazuma.
The bridge stretched five miles across and was 200 meters wide.
It was made out of massive stone blocks that formed its surface, along with some weird metal alloys that Adam had never seen before. Looking at it from where he stands, it looks a lot like the London Bridge back in his old world.
Thick vines grew inwards, and around it... at the very bottom was a giant crystal power source; Adam recognized it as a high-end Astrum stone.
They were used to absorb Astrum, something that spirtualists with low or small seas use to compensate for their size.
But this one was a super massive version of that.
And what it empowered was simple: the bridge had ten large, massive metal pillars that led downwards into a portal, where those portals end up, Adam did not know.
But what shocked him was that the moment he crossed the bridge, the System spoke.
