Reincarnated as the Elder's son: My Infinite Shop Points System-Chapter 40: Modern hunting.
Chapter 40: Modern hunting.
Flashback*
"Here, I want you to use this..." Ria said as she stretched the sniper towards Kiara.
Standing at the entrance of the room, Kiara stared at the sniper for a while.
It looked weird, otherworldly.
"Lady Ria... What is this?" she asked.
"According to my brother, it’s a sniper, an advanced weapon far surpassing that of a bow and arrow," replied Ria.
"Surpassing...a bow..." Kiara was a bit confused, her eyes fixed on the sniper.
"Hmm...at least that’s what he told me. Only the gods know how he was able to make something like this. It’s powerful; I’d know since I used it once before to take down Olsen’s defense..."
Now, Kiara was interested. A weapon powerful enough to take down Olsen? She had to understand how it worked, especially considering Jared was the one who made it.
"How does it work?" she suddenly asked.
"Well, raise it up towards your shoulder like this..." Ria demonstrated, "And then once you have a good balance, you pull the trigger, and then you’re good to go. Got it?"
As soon as Ria handed the sniper to her, Kiara did the same thing, aiming the sniper at a random tree.
Since she had the best aim in the village, a skill that people called fox hunt, she knew damn well she would never miss her target.
Pulling her face from the scope, she uttered, "Please don’t get the wrong thought about this. But why are you giving me a weapon Lord Jared handed to you?"
Ria first rested her back on the wall, rubbing her arm with the other hand.
"My brother has a lot he has to take care of right now; he barely gets any time for himself. I don’t want him to have to worry about lack of food again. I want you to have a successful hunt, hence why I’m giving you the sniper, in hopes that you won’t fail."
Ria’s words touched Kiara.
Holding the sniper well, she replied...
"You can have my head if I fail."
"That’s a bit much," Ria chuckled a bit, "But I’ll hold you to it."
Flashback ends*
Lying on the ground, with the sniper in sight and aimed at the moving buffaloes.
She steadied her breathing, a technique she had mastered over the years in order not to miss her shot.
It wasn’t 100% accurate, but it always damn near raised her chances.
Lucy, standing behind her, watched as she waited for Kiara to make the shot.
And then...
The gunshot rippled through the air as soon as she pulled the trigger.
The force jerked her back a bit in the process; she made the perfect strike.
The bullet shot out the barrel, penetrating not one, but two buffaloes, instantly bringing them to the ground. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
In utter confusion, the buffaloes began to run in different directions, confused as to where the attack came from.
After taking the shot, the force pushed Kiara back a bit, but in a haste to know if she got her target, she pulled herself back.
It was then she saw a buffalo running at full sight.
’I should be able to...’
She pulled the trigger.
Bang!
Another buffalo hit the ground.
’This can work!’
Kiara immediately turned into another position, her eyes picking up on a running buffalo.
Bang!
She shot it to death.
Bang!
Another buffalo hit the ground.
Lucy and the rest watched in disbelief as more and more buffaloes were killed.
In a matter of minutes, seven buffaloes had died from Kiara’s sniper shots, with the rest managing to run deep inside the forest.
"Incredible..." Lucy blurted out as she observed the dead buffaloes.
The three men who had followed them excitedly ran towards their successful hunt to gather them for transport.
Raising her head, Kiara sat upright, both her hands resting firmly on her thighs.
"How many did I shoot down?" she asked.
"You didn’t miss a single shot, and you made seven shots in total..."
A smile showed on Kiara’s lips.
"I killed seven buffaloes," she uttered with a low tone, "I killed seven buffaloes!!!" Her voice was higher now, "Hahahah! He’s going to be so freaked out when he hears this. Oh man, this sniper is amazing."
Lucy smiled too.
"Thank you."
"Nah, no need to thank me. I’m simply doing my part as a member of the community. Though I have to admit, I much rather have your job than this one..." Kiara said as she stood up from the ground.
"Eh? What do you mean?"
"For starters, I heard you are now a five-star due to Lord Jared’s influence. As his bodyguard, it’s only normal that you get strong. Then there’s the issue with you being the only one who gets to be close to him; other than Lady Ria, you’re the only one he lets freely enter his room. I am supposed to be his fiancée, and he doesn’t even let me do that." Kiara looked to the side, blushing a bit, "Who wouldn’t want your position?" she whispered.
"Wow... I didn’t know you were the jealous type, Kiara," said Lucy with a deadpan look.
"What?!" Kiara faced her, "I am in no way jealous of you; I only envy your job is all, there’s nothing more to it. Stop speaking like I’m jealous of the attention you get from Lord Jared!" She pointed.
"I wasn’t speaking about that to begin with, but oh wow, you really are jealous." Lucy covered her lips with her hand, her eyes clearly revealing her mischief.
Embarrassed, Kiara frowned a bit, "Don’t even say a word to-"
"Who the hell do you think you are?!!!"
A loud voice echoed from the mainland.
Immediately turning their attention to see who it was, they spotted a few individuals who were gathering around the member of their village.
They were dressed in rags and carried only two horses with about three wagons attached to them.
Kiara quickly recognized who they were.
"Scavengers," she voiced out.
