Chapter 42: A disgraceful defeat.

"A man who tamed the gods?"

The boss repeated it, expecting it to make some kind of sense right after. It didn’t.

With such a serious expression on Lucy’s face, he knew she was most likely serious about it.

A man who tamed the gods? Such a joke.

The gods have remained hidden for thousands of years, and somehow someone from a failing society managed to tame them?

It was laughable.

At least to those who were ignorant about it.

"So, since we have that out of the way, are you willing to write the apology now?" Lucy didn’t care about the judgmental glances she was getting from the opposition.

They were beneath her.

Lousy idiots who only make ends meet by leeching off of others. She had little to no respect for them.

As such, she could confidently stretch a clean sheet of paper to their leader, her request not changing, despite seeing the noticeably annoyed expression on the boss’s face.

"Are you trying to make me mad? If you are, it’s working. I only planned to take every hunt from you after injuring one of your men. But now...I think I’ll take these three men of yours as compensation."

Words laced with venom, sinking into the chest of those who heard it. Mainly the villagers, as they knew their lives were now on the line.

A threat from a lowlife?

Lucy sighed.

"Have it your way..."

Not even a second later.

—Baam!

She landed a clean punch on his face, blood spewing as the impact sent the boss flying a couple of distances back.

A punch that was fueled with hatred, yet a calm face remained on her.

As soon as the boss’s back touched the ground, he let out a hard grunt, covering his face while trying to crawl to his knees.

The embarrassment, getting downplayed by a woman...one that held no status.

The boss was angered and embarrassed.

With his blood-covered hand pressed against his injured face, he slightly turned around, pointing aggressively at Lucy.

"KILL THEM!!! Kill them right now!!!"

A direct order, targeted at a single individual.

It didn’t take a genius to know he was damn serious about it too.

In that moment, he wanted her to suffer, if possible, beg for her life while his men tortured her.

Forget her beauty and rocking body; having her bleeding and crying made more sense to him.

As instructed, every single one of the boss’s men began to move closer, their weapons held up close.

Fighting a five-star was never easy, but it wasn’t impossible to beat one.

In fact, there have been cases where a four-star has defeated a five-star in battle.

While the ranks determined the level of ability, it didn’t determine their mastery as well.

Which is why these men knew in their hearts they could beat Lucy, regardless of her lightning ability.

Bawww!

A first victim.

The moment he got close to Lucy, she thrust her blade into his chest, leaving her lightning to take care of the next group following behind him.

It felt like shattered glass punctured their bodies as they fell to the ground, instantly dying.

You’d think the others would think twice after watching their comrades die before them.

No, they didn’t.

To them, it was simply casualties; if they kept pushing, they could eventually corner and pin her down. Best case scenario, they land a critical blow.

"Charge!"

Oh, how their voices echoed as they launched themselves forward like bees.

Gripping her blade in an easier fashion, Lucy allowed lightning to envelop her body, her eyes reading every single person headed towards her.

In a swift move, she began to slice through them like butter, her blade moving faster than any of them could react.

But it wasn’t just that.

From the hill, Kiara had aimed her sniper and was lending an incredible assist.

One who fought with a blade, and the other who assisted from the shadows with a sniper.

It didn’t take long for the scavengers to fall.

They were never any match to begin with; their stupidity led to their doom.

Wiping the blood from her cheeks, Lucy turned her head towards the hill, tilting her head a bit as if to thank Kiara for helping her.

Once that was out of the way, Lucy slowly but surely took steps towards the boss.

Blood dripped from her finger and blade, her eyes locked in, the closer she got.

The boss was terrified, his heart beating so fast he could practically hear it in his head.

Watching your followers die in front of you is enough to bring a grown man to his knees.

Even if he were to fight back, was there truly any chance of him winning against this monster of a woman?

How can something so beautiful be so dangerous?

The thought dashed through his mind for a few seconds, up until Lucy’s blade was aimed at his head.

"Wait! Please wait! I...I don’t want to fight anymore. I give up! Yeah! I give up, spare me!"

The boss pleaded.

Lucy sighed, almost disappointed at the man for giving up so easily.

"I knew it. You are no different from the rest; no one really can replace my lord. I will spare your life, but first you have to do something for me..." she said.

"...Anything? I’ll do anything! What do you want? Money? I can get that for you; hell, I’ll even give you this part of the faction if that’s what you want..."

Lucy paused.

That didn’t occur to her. But it was possible to take another person’s land after dominating it. It was a good idea; they could expand their reach.

It wasn’t like they hadn’t thought about it before; they were just simply too weak to do anything. And in most cases, they tried to avoid the scavengers.

’I should speak to Lord Jared about it first. I don’t want to do anything that would make him angry at me.’

She scrapped the thought to the side.

"Now, I want you to scream out loud, at the top of your voice: Lord Jared is the best king to ever live. And you mustn’t stammer."

"Yo-"

"Don’t waste my time..."

"Right." The boss shouted, "Lord Jared is the best king to ever live!!!"
