Chapter 90: Yannick Wutherhorn
The estate was just as vast as he remembered, spanning over two hundred thousand kilometers, it stood on its own like a city.
Light and Clarissa moved on horses past different houses and fields. He greeted the farmers and workers as he passed by, he never really knew them as a child, but he made sure to commend them for all their hard work because he believed they were the ones who truly held the entire estate together.
The people were just as important as their Lord(s).
They passed a couple of Craft shops and bakeries on their way as well, there was nothing that the Wutherhorn estate didn’t accommodate.
Light learned to ride horses before he could even hold a sword, which is why as soon as he had got on his horse, his muscle memory kicked in.
They walked for about forty minutes when they got to another large residence, not as big as the Main House but large enough to be fit for a Lord.
In front of the house a huge sign read ’PROPERTY OF HIGH LORD YANNICK WUTHERHORN.’
He sighed as he read it, it was nut like Yannick to impose his authority wherever he went.
As children, Yannick was bigger than the rest, he was sparring with the soldiers long before Light even knew what sparring meant. They all looked up to him.
He also had what none of them ever did, their father’s approval, something that Light had longed for, for as long as he could remember.
There were two guards situated in front of the building. As soon as they saw Light, they saluted and opened the door for him to enter, accompanied by Clarissa who followed quietly.
"His grace has been expecting you." One of the guards announced as the doors swung open.
Light smiled with his mouth closed. ’Wow, he even makes them call him ’His Grace’. How shallow.’ Light mused, almost laughing at his thought.
As soon as he entered the hall was awash with noise, tiny little children running across, chasing each other and laughing, they numbered about five. It brought an unfamiliar feeling of joy to his heart, to know he had nephews and nieces all around the place, people to impart whatever knowledge he had into.
A tiny dragon-shaped toy flew inbetween his legs and rested on the floor behind him, he calmly bent over and studied it for a moment before picking it up. ’Interesting, I don’t think I ever had anything like this growing up.’
"Big sir, would you mind passing my dragon?" A little girl called out to him, she had long brown hair and bright brown eyes that would make even the most hardened soldier melt into tiny little pieces. She traced her right leg in circles and held her hands behind her back as she looked up at him. She was damn cute, if he had any money or gifts he would drop it all right at her feet in a heartbeat.
"Now what would a little girl like you be doing with a dragon, he bent over to her eye level and stretched out his hand to give her the dragon.
"He’s my dragon, his name is Achilles, because even though he’s mighty strong, I’m his only weakness." She grabbed the dragon toy and giggled, running back to her siblings.
Light shook his head while smiling and got up, he immediately heard a voice calling out to him.
"Light Wutherhorn. By the heavens, you don’t even looked like you stepped out of the estate for even a day." Vera exclaimed as she walked towards him with her arms spread, she was the Duchess of Khalarnis, only daughter of the Duke of Khalarnis.
"Vera! It’s lovely to see you again, how are you? How’s my grumpy old brother?" Light greeted her as he hugged her.
"We’re doing great, and Yannick is just as grumpy as ever." She said laughingly as she retracted from the embrace. It was a joke they both had as children, most of the kids referred to Yannick as grumpy because he was always so serious.
"That’s good to know, at least some things didn’t change." Light said, looking around the house, the walls were covered in pictures of them, their children, and Yannick’s achievements over the years.
"Come, come. Yannick is through here. We have a lot of catching up to do. Be careful now children." Vera dragged Light by the arm through a passageway and into another room while the children played.
Clarissa just stood by the door diligently, even though no one had ordered her to, she instinctively knew her duties and abided by them.
His eyes were hit by a blinding light as soon as he walked into the room with Vera holding his hand.
"Honey! Guess who decided to pay us a visit!"
A tall, black haired man looked up from a small table covered in books, he had a monocle in front of his right eye and it appeared as though he was studying something.
"Who is it—oh!" The man exclaimed as soon as he noticed the person his wife was dragging behind her.
The room appeared to be a library, the walls were lined with countless numbers of shelves, some would even require a ladder to reach.
’Yannick must have turned this vast space into his personal study.’ Light thought as he followed Vera.
"If it isn’t my mischievous little brother, where have you been this whole time boy!?" Yannick had a wide smile on his face. He didn’t seemhave the demeanor of the snobbish older brother anymore.
Light scratched his head and averted his eyes. "Haha. Well, it’s a long story." He managed to answer.
"Good thing you’ve come here! Come, tell us all about it." Yannick pulled out a chair for him and went over to sit on his side, focusing on the young man.
Vera just planted herself on the table beside Light, her arms were folded as she listened keenly to what the young man had to say.
Without hesitation he began to spill details of his adventure, spanning from when he left the castle, all the way till he met Jacob and Xenia, and then the Great Sage Shinzo.
Vera couldn’t help but hang her mouth open in shock at all that the young man had gone through, Yannick nodded his head after every sentence that Light spoke.
His brother had been through a great ordeal as a child, one that no child should ever have to go through alone.
But it was of his own doing, and he was surprised and impressed that the boy could make it out of all that without so much as a scratch on his body.
Yannick was now intrigued to find out what Light’s new power was, and who this ’Jacob Ironfell’ was.
The conversation went on for a while, with Light finding out new things and listening to the adventures of his brother as well.
"Well, I’m happy with my life now, little brother. I have a beautiful wife and five wonderful children." Yannick expressed, looking lovingly at Vera, who mirrored his gaze with a warm smile.
"What’s the name of the one with the dragon toy." Light asked.
"Oh that’s Yelena, she’s a little different than the rest." Vera responded.
