Chapter 560: Why Is It Opening So Fast (2)

Li Xiaofei could understand how this happened. After all, just look at the Jiepeng people and their absurd actions. Weren’t they bewitched by these so-called Evil Gods from the Temple? They waged wars everywhere, committed heinous invasions, and conducted forbidden experiments that enraged the heavens and the people alike.

A sudden thought flashed through Li Xiaofei’s mind.

Could the Yiggs people also be connected to the Evil Gods of Subspace?

After all, the Yiggs and the Jiepeng were like father and son. If the son’s pants were soaked, could the father really claim innocence? If that were the case, Earth would be in grave danger.

Li Xiaofei shook his head, clearing away the distracting thoughts. He had more immediate matters to attend to. There were two tasks ahead.

The first was to find his Heaven-Devouring Hound, and hopefully locate his companions along the way. The second was to kill No. 88. After a moment’s deliberation, he decided that finding his hound would take priority.

“Let’s leave this place first,” Li Xiaofei said.

Barush obediently led the way, guiding Li Xiaofei as they navigated the sprawling interior of the ancient starship, the Biscuit, in search of an exit. Li Xiaofei couldn’t help but marvel once more at the sheer scale of this alien warship.

It was like a small city unto itself. Even after ten thousand years, some of its biosimulation systems were still operational. The labyrinthine corridors seemed endless. Walking through them gave him the distinct feeling of stepping into the world of an ancient technological civilization.

The level of technology on this warship, even after millennia, was far beyond anything Earth had achieved.

But seriously, what kind of person names their flagship Biscuit? That had to be some deliberate act of playful mischief.

Curiosity piqued, Li Xiaofei couldn’t resist asking a few questions about this Xiao Binggan, the legion commander of the Beichen Legion. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

“He was a terrifying individual,” Barush began, his voice tinged with unease. “He led his troops into Subspace, and managed to shatter Lord Terror into fragments in enemy territory. Although it cost him his flagship, the battle ended with him retreating safely with his soldiers.”

“The most astonishing part,” Barush continued, “was that with just one ten-thousandth of our numbers, he held back Terror’s forces here in the Wind Ruins for thirty whole years, completely derailing Lord Terror and the Reaper’s assault plans.”

As Barush spoke about Xiao Binggan, his voice quivered, revealing how deeply that battle had shaken Subspace’s denizens.

“The most horrifying thing,” Barush added, lowering his voice as though telling a ghost story, “was that he was a cannibal.”

Barush took a deep, shuddering breath. “He loved roasted meat. If he captured us, he would roast us alive and share us with his subordinates. His second-in-command was a Golden Lizard King who wore nothing but shorts and used his own tail as a side dish for the roasts. They ate everything... It was horrifyingly perverse.”

“Golden Lizard King?” Li Xiaofei was startled. “Does it have exceptional regenerative abilities?”

“Yes, incredibly powerful. It was even better than Lord Terror’s,” Barush replied without hesitation. “Oh, right! The Jiepeng Empire has a bloodline bearer who seems to have inherited that bloodline. I once thought about taking her for myself, but then the upheaval in the Temple happened. I encountered you before I could act, Master.”

“You wanted that bloodline too?” Li Xiaofei asked.

“Of course! It’s one of the strongest bloodlines from the Beichen Legion,” Barush replied eagerly.

Li Xiaofei exploded Barush’s head again with a swift punch. Barush’s neck wobbled for a moment before a new head grew back in its place.

“You see? Your regenerative ability is strong too,” Li Xiaofei remarked.

Barush wore a pained expression. “But it consumes energy! If you exploded my head ten thousand times, my realm would drop from War General down to Soldier.”

Li Xiaofei nodded, finally understanding. Just like martial artists on Earth, regeneration came at the cost of vitality and energy. The Golden Lizard King’s bloodline, however, was entirely different. Its regeneration was fully automatic, requiring no energy or resources. In essence, someone with that bloodline was like Deadpop[1]—even a sliver of nail could grow into a whole new person.

“After Xiao Binggan withdrew his forces, the Golden Lizard King remained here, supposedly to gather intelligence on Subspace and monitor Lord Terror’s movements,” Barush continued.

“But many Subspace historians firmly believe that the lizard stayed behind because of its gluttony.”

“Why?” Li Xiaofei asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Because it found the creatures of Terror absolutely delicious,” Barush answered immediately.

It was obvious that Barush harbored both lofty ambitions and deep grievances toward the Golden Lizard King. Li Xiaofei couldn’t be bothered to entertain his ramblings. Roughly three hours later, the two of them had successfully... gotten lost.

“Do you even know where the hell you’re going?” Li Xiaofei roared, throwing a punch that exploded Barush’s head into a splattered mess.

When Barush’s head regrew, his face resembled a wilted bitter melon.

“I’ve only been here once!” Barush explained pitifully. “That was when my parents brought me and over a hundred of my younger siblings here. It was the last time I saw them. After that... they disappeared.”

“Disappeared?” Li Xiaofei asked, narrowing his eyes.

“Yes, they got lost,” Barush replied, his voice dripping with sadness.

“For f’s sake,” Li Xiaofei muttered, rubbing his temples.

“But I made it out that time!” Barush added defensively, his tone almost pleading.

Li Xiaofei felt the urge to punch him again. It was taking all his self-restraint not to.

“What now?” Li Xiaofei asked in a tone that was anything but friendly.

Barush quickly replied, “We’ll keep looking, keep looking! Let me think... I just need to recall...”

Another hour passed. Barush had been punched in the head thirty more times. At long last, the two arrived at the Biscuit’s main control room. The door was sealed shut, and its imposing structure emanated a sense of invulnerability.

“There’s no way in,” Barush said, his tone utterly dejected. “Even Lord No. 88 came personally once but couldn’t open this door. They say the treasures of the Beichen Legion are inside, but no one has ever managed to break in...”

Before he could finish his sentence, a faint humming sound filled the air.

Zzzzz!

The main control room door began to open slowly and steadily.

Barush stood frozen, his mouth agape.

“What did you do?” he asked in disbelief, staring at Li Xiaofei. Li Xiaofei looked down at his hand, equally stunned.

I didn’t do anything. All I did was touch the strange box beside the door that vaguely resembled a keypad. That was it. And now the control room door is opening... for me?

What the hell?

Isn’t this door supposed to have been sealed for ten thousand years? How is it opening faster than the thighs of Tsukiha Yaiba?

Li Xiaofei’s expression darkened as he stepped forward cautiously. His thoughts were a jumble of suspicion and curiosity.
